Chapter 19 – He Has To Know
Dana
As I listened to the woman on the other line, I realized that my fuse was ready to blow out and I needed to get a hold of myself before it was too late. I am hanging by a mere thread, and my patience is dangerously wearing thin before I let all hell loose. For the past hour and a half, I have been trying to resolve this issue over the phone, but to no avail.
"I'm sorry to make a fuss about you, miss. However, I was unable to find your name on the list that we have." The other woman on the telephone repeated her statement for the third time. "You have to realize that it is against the policy of our company to simply forward a call to any of our employees' private office lines without providing them with prior notice. This is a strict rule given to us, and there is no way we are going to make an exemption to that rule. I deeply apologize, but we have been provided with a list of names of people whose inquiries we are able to accept and convey, and your name is not on this list.
"I do understand; nonetheless, the situation at hand is urgent. There has to be something you can do, if not much. I have to have an urgent conversation with the Alpha of Alphas right away!" I put the utmost emphasis on every word to make sure that she was paying attention and hearing every word I was saying.
"That's all the more reason why we have to follow our procedure, miss. It's not just any regular person who you want to speak to, is it?" I can tell by the tone of her voice that she is on the verge of losing her cool as well.
I feel the need to point out that I applaud her for taking a position, but this is not a typical circumstance, and I have never in my whole life inquired about having a conversation with someone so high up in the ranks of the werewolf hierarchy, not even inside my own pack. But here I am, asking one of the royal descendants of the king of us all, the most powerful and revered Alpha of the Alphas of all werewolves and Lycans who dominate the eastern seaboard, to speak with me in such a casual manner.
I ended the call before my anger could get the best of me and cause me to yell at the other person on the other line, who, by the way, is just carrying out the responsibilities of her job really well. If things had gone differently, I definitely would have been willing to give her a job opportunity.
There has got to be some other way I can speak with the Alpha of all Alphas face-to-face and inform him about Clara and the predicament she is in. In spite of the fact that she signed a non-disclosure agreement with the fertility clinic requiring that she not, under any circumstances, look for her sperm donor, Clara is still clueless about the identity of the man who is the biological father of her child in the midst of all of this mess. However, it should be noted that the fertility clinic was the party responsible for the major error. This is extremely significant for her life since I am certain that it will never be the same again, but I have no friggin idea how to begin telling her this either.
Clara has no idea what it's like to live in the same world as me, despite the fact that we're the best of friends, and she has no idea that I can transform into a werewolf whenever I wish to. It causes me a lot of anguish to even consider the possibility that she does not have a choice in this matter because, whether she likes it or not, she is now a part of our supernatural realm, even though everything that happened was an accident and was caused by a terrible mistake. She had no idea that she was going to step into a realm of the unknown and of creatures that were only a part of legends, folklore, and fairytales when she became involved in our world of supernatural beings. Somehow, in the grand scheme of things, she became entangled in our world of supernatural beings without even realizing it.
I pray that she will forgive me once she learns the truth about everything. I can only imagine how devastated she would be to learn that this whole situation is such a mess. I can only imagine how unhappy she would be. She needs to know who the father of her child is because this child of hers will not be an ordinary child. The fact that the child's father is none other than one of the royal freaking Lycan princes who rules all clans and packs of the eastern seaboard, the Alpha of all Alphas of the East of continental America, and a prince, one of the sons of the King of all Alphas, is the least that I could do to prepare her for whatever is coming for her and her child.
Think, Dana, just think about it." I muttered to myself as I paced the office of my laboratory.
It is vital that he be informed, but I do not know how I will break through all of these rules in order to get through to him and tell him about Clara and their child.
I knew in an instant that my best friend's life was in significant danger the moment I got the information from Nate and saw the images from Clara's ultrasound. If I do not take action as quickly as possible, her life will be in grave danger. In light of the fact that there is not one documented record in the Lycan or werewolf medical records that tells us of a similar case with a Lycan and a human birthing its pup, we need to take every precaution possible to ensure that we can have a higher rate of protecting both the mother and the child and ensure both their survival.
The cases in which we have records of a human and a werewolf bearing pups are extremely rare, and when they do occur, the mother and kid do have a greater chance of survival due to the strength of the unbreakable and powerful mate bond that exists between the werewolf and the human mate. However, these instances are extremely rare. Even though we do not have any medical records of a Lycan male taking a female human mate and later on bearing pups, I can say that it will work the same way and even better since Lycans have proven to create profound and indisputably strong mate bonds that will ensure the survival of the human mate.
It is inconceivable for both a werewolf and a Lycan to be apart from their mates for long periods of time, and even more unimaginable and devastating, even heartbreaking, if they were to lose them forever in death. The supernatural and paranormal beings alike form lifelong bonds with their mates regardless of their origin, and because of this, the mate bond will ensure that every effort is made to preserve their other halves.
It is abundantly clear that Clara is not mated, and as a result, she will not benefit from the advantages that come with having a mate bond. Because of this, Alaric Moonblood is the one who must take responsibility for the situation, despite the fact that the mix-up at the clinic and everything else are not his fault. Nonetheless, fate must still be at work here because we are talking about the survival of his own pup. Since Clara is the one who is carrying the pup in her belly and will need to deliver the baby safely into this world, Alaric Moonblood must find a way to save both.
"The research. I could tell him that it had something to do with the DNA study if I invited him to come to the clinic. If it is a formal invitation from both the clinic and the research institute, I really doubt that he will turn it down." I am obviously mumbling to myself, but I have to get to work as soon as possible.
As soon as I pushed the button to send the email message and invitation, my anxiety for the possible response returned in all its glory. Thankfully, a response arrived after about an hour, and it confirmed that the Alpha of Alphas, Alaric Moonblood, gave his approval to meet at the fertility clinic upon the request of the head researcher of the DNA study in which he participated in accordance with the desire of the King of Alphas, his father.
Have I mentioned that I made it a point to plan it for the same day and time as Clara goes to the clinic for her regular checkups?
