Chapter 30
Chapter 30
Sun rays peeped from the large windows in the hallway. The birds chirped in the garden. Her veil lay carelessly on the floor beside her. The cold breeze caressing her bare back made her stir. Her hair sprawled on the headrest while she was sleeping carefree on the couch.
It was 6 am when his car halted at the gate and the guard opened the door for him. He passed out at Natasha's place last night due to alcohol. He went there just after dropping Shanaya at his mansion.
He got out of his car and walked inside the mansion. He just wanted to have a cold shower and take a quick nap before going to the office. He entered the mansion and was welcomed with a foreign warmth in the air. He was about to walk up to his room when his eyes landed on her.
His brows knitted in confusion when he found her sleeping on the couch in a sitting position, still donning her wedding dress. He couldn't forget how breathtaking she looked last night. He just couldn't take his eyes off her.
Her back was facing him. Her veil had pooled on the floor carelessly and her luggage was still there. It looked like she fell asleep while waiting for him. He told her to get a room for herself but she was still there.
He ambled towards her and bent down near her and stared at her face. Her cheeks had dried tears, her lips were pouted and her red nose was confirming that she had cried before falling asleep. Her hair got open in her sleep and sprawled back on the headrest. A stray stand was disturbing her eyes as her brow furrowed in sleep.
Unknowingly his hand lifted and tucked the strand behind her ear and he gazed at her for a while. How peacefully she was sleeping, not caring about the world.
A devilish smirk stretched on his lips and he grabbed the water jug from the table before he splashed the whole jug of water on her face.
A shriek escaped her mouth and she woke up abruptly gasping for air clutching the side of her lehenga. She felt cold. Her mouth was wide open as she went into a fit of cough. It took her a whole minute to realize her surroundings and what had just happened. She took deep breaths with her parted lips gasping for air. And when she finally looked up her eyes collided with icy blue orbs peering down at her with a smug smile plastering on his face.
Her eyes travelled to his hand in which he was holding the jug and her brows creased. 'He just didn't throw the water on her?' She thought. "Good morning," he said and a lazy smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. She was puzzled, still processing what just happened.
Her eyes dropped to her veil which was lying beneath his feet. She stood up abruptly fixing her lehenga and tucking her hair behind her ear. She scrunched her nose when a weird alcoholic smell hit her nose. 'Is he high early in the morning?' The thought crossed her mind but his voice startled her.
"When I told you to get a room for yourself then what are you still doing here" his vicious voice reached her ears making her flinch and she just gaped at him in disbelief. "What? Are you deaf? Didn't you hear what I told you?" He snickered, pulling her closer by her elbow and a lone tear rolled down her cheeks. His harsh behaviour was hurting her. She felt a stone stuck in her throat and couldn't form a word. Why has he been behaving strangely since last night? What happened to him?
"I…I was waiting for you" she mumbled in a small voice while her lips quivered and tears brimmed in her eyes and he was left stunned. All the rage flew out of his system as he gaped at her puzzled.
She nodded off while waiting for him and here he was plotting to hurt her not physically but mentally. 'Why are you so naive?' His heart felt an unknown emotion. He just couldn't look into her teary eyes and left her elbow stepping away from her and raking his hair in annoyance.
"Go to your room now" he gritted his teeth and turned to leave when her voice halted his step in mid. "Where?" Her voice was low. He took a sharp intake and trekked towards her grabbing her luggage in one hand he clasped her arm and dragged her all the way upstairs.
She stumbled multiple times on her footing but he didn't stop until they were standing in a room. He tossed her luggage in some corner and left her arm. She stood in the middle of the room, baffled. "In fifteen minutes, come downstairs" saying he strolled out of the room without hearing her.
A lone tear escaped her eyes but she wiped it harshly and grabbed her luggage. She unlocked it and took out her outfit for the day and went inside the ensuite bathroom to take a shower. Her muscles were aching because of sleeping in an uncomfortable position for the whole night.
After coming out of her room he walked straight into his room and shut the door loudly. The rage that was boiling inside him for so long if not for his control on his anger he might have hurt her badly. He knew she would be the one who would be hurt the most in his vengeance and he readied himself for that but always her tears will stir something in his heart which is unknown to him.
He took a shower and walked out wrapping a towel around his torso. Earlier he was thinking about taking a nap before going to his office but after seeing her in the hall sleeping on the couch while waiting for him the whole night he dropped that idea.
She didn't have anything last also so he thought to make her eat something before leaving for the office. He wore his black three-piece suit and shoes. He wore a Rolex while he sprayed perfume and gelled his hair back neatly.
He was about to go downstairs when he thought to check up on her. He entered her room and heard the shower running so he walked out from there without letting her know. He went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for both of them.
He lit the stove and made two omelets and prepared orange juice and cut some fruits and toasted bread. He placed the dishes on the dining table and the cleaning staff arrived at exactly that time. They were surprised to find their master still in the house when he always left around 8 am but it was 9 am already.
Without saying anything they went to the other wing of the mansion to clean, leaving him alone. He heard her soft footsteps near him and turned back to look at her.
There she was descending the stairs cladded in an Indian wear red kurta (long shirt) and matching pants with a dupatta (scarf) resting on either side of her shoulder. She was wearing the nuptial chain around her neck and red bangles in her hand, her face devoid of any makeup and the natural blush on her cheeks made her look more beautiful. Her wet hair was cast down to her waist as she just took a shower and came out hurriedly.
He stared at her with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. She stood a little far from him looking at him. "I need to talk with you," she let out and it was then he came out of his reverie and he took his seat at the dining table.
"Sure, I need to talk to you too but first let's have breakfast," he said and gestured to her to sit but she was rooted to her place. He lifted a thick brow at her and she swallowed looking at him.
"I need to talk to you Avyaansh, now" she affirmed with mustered-up courage. "Don't make me repeat, Shanaya" he spoke out in a low threatening voice which made her flinch. "Why are you behaving like this?" She asked, looking him in the eye.
"And how am I behaving?" He asked instead, intertwining his fingers, he rested his elbow on the table and leaned on it.
"Like I don't exist for you" she mumbled in a small voice staring at him. "Come sit here and have breakfast then I will answer your questions" he said dismissing her. She glared at him with a pout and took her seat right across from him without arguing.
He served her breakfast and she began eating silently while peeking a glance at him. He was eating but he could feel her stares at him all the while. She ate two or three slices of apple and drank a juice and she was full. She didn't have much appetite. She was more anxious to talk to him and clear the misunderstanding between them.
"You'll be staying at home. The staff are here if you need anything just tell them" he said while munching on his food. "Today the butler made the breakfast but from tomorrow you will be cooking for us" he casually said while her eyes snapped in his direction.
When he raised a brow at her in questioning she spoke "I don't know cooking" she mumbled and he barely controlled himself chuckling. "Then learn it. I don't like the staff's handmade food" She could only bob her head as her head hung low in embarrassment. He didn't want her to know he made breakfast or else she would consider this as his kind gesture. He only wants to show her his evil side.
Of course, she lived all her life like a princess in her father's mansion. So it's obvious she doesn't know about household chores.
He stood up grabbing his car keys and phone and turned to leave when she abruptly stood up from her seat and strolled behind him.
"Avyaansh stop" she clasped his wrist to stop him and he did stop. "What now?" He grumbled scowling at her.
"Y…You said we will talk" she spoke out, biting her lips in anticipation. "I have a meeting to attend" saying he yanked his hand and walked away. She watched him stunned, vanishing from her sight.
A lone tear trailed down her cheeks while a sob broke on her lips. Her heart felt heavy as if someone was squeezing it mercilessly. She slumped down on the chair and tears one after another escaped her eyes and soaked her cheeks.
Why was he avoiding talking to her? Why was he behaving rudely with her? What was her mistake in all this? They are married now so how can he treat her like that? All these things were roaming in her mind making her heart gloomy.
