Chapter 28
Chapter 28
"Please save me, I didn't know how this got out" he begged in frustration while Rajeev was being more suspicious about him. Before Rajeev could ask further, the door of the cabin opened and a few police officers came along with a senior officer inside the cabin. Rajeev frowned looking at the number of officers and then he looked at Neil who was sweating.
"Mr. Singhania sorry to barge in your office but we have an arrest warrant against Mr. Neil Singh," The senior officer said and Rajeev's eyes widened. "What?" He barked at the officer. "Do you have any idea what the hell are you even saying?" Rajeev shouted at the senior officer who remained unfazed by his shouting.
"We have proof of Mr. Neil's involvement in drug dealings and some illegal business. Someone has filed a complaint against him" when the senior officer said Rajeev turned to Neil with anger forming on his face. "Unless he's proven innocent we have to take him under custody. Sir, We are doing our job please cooperate" saying that the senior officer gestured to another officer who stepped ahead to handcuff Neil but Rajeev stopped him.
Rajeev knew about Neil's addiction to drugs and his whoring around but he didn't predict that it would cause chaos at this moment. Giving a disgusted look at Neil he turned to the officer and said "Officer, I need to make a call with the commissioner. Please wait outside" Rajeev tried to sound polite but from inside he was seething in anger.
All the hard work he did all this year was on the verge of ruining. He can't let that happen. He made a note to deal with Neil later and look into the matter at hand right now "Sorry Mr. Singhania we have orders, I can't go against my duty, we have to arrest him" saying that the senior officer came forward and handcuffed Neil.
"You can't take him like that. Today is his marriage try to understand" Rajeev yelled but it was of no use. "Mr. Singhania, you have to cooperate with us. I can't go against the law. You can bring the lawyer to save him but for now, we need to take him, don't create hurdles in our duty" that senior officer said this time sternly. He has had enough of them.
Neil who was silent till now spoke "Please do something, I don't want to go to prison" He looked at Rajeev expectantly who only glared at him in return.
They dragged Neil out with them while the whole office witnessed the scene and a few gasps were heard in the silence of the room. Rajeev was pacing inside his cabin like a bull making call after call. He even spoke to the commissioner but it was of no use. This news would be out soon eventually.
"Mr. Singhania, is everything alright? I saw the police were dragging your son-in-law with them" He turned to the source of the voice and found Avyaansh at the doorstep with his assistant behind him. He frowned but then he remembered about the meeting with him which slipped out of his mind.
"It's some misunderstanding. He will be out soon" Rajeev tried to sound positive but who was he kidding? He was angry at Neil for destroying his years of work with his drug addiction and on top of that he won't be bailed out anytime soon. Avyaansh gave him a lazy smile and walked to the couch.
Rajeev's phone buzzed and he excused himself to pick up the call. It was from his lawyer who was at the police station with Neil right now. "What the hell are you saying? This wedding is important
Do anything in your power and get him out today" he shouted on the phone and hung up.
"Involvement in drugs is not a little misunderstanding sir if the matter is this serious I am afraid he would get out on bail either," Avyaansh said making himself comfortable on the couch in his office. "It's a misunderstanding. I have contacted my lawyer and I am sure he will be out soon" Rajeev said sitting across from Avyaansh.
"Well, that's another thing. But let me remind you, if this hotel project is canceled I am afraid you would have nothing in your hand to save" joining his fingers together he rested his elbow on his knees as he spoke.
"What do you mean?" Rajeev asked, suspicious about the hint Avyaansh was giving him. "I am talking about your loan. This is the last month before the deadline. Our deal is still not finalized and now your son-in-law has gotten arrested in drug dealings. Overall your reputation will be tarnished if this news got out to the media" Avyaansh explained calmly and smirked inwardly looking at Rajeev who was going pale with every passing second.
"How did you know about the loan, it was confidential?" Rajeev asked suspiciously while Avyaansh let out a chortle leaning back on the couch before saying "Mr. Singhania, you are forgetting that you are about to sign the deal with me. And I always do my homework about the company and people before doing business with them" he looked him in the eyes.
"I did my homework on you and got to know that the land of this hotel project is in your daughter's name and she has to be married to claim the properties otherwise, it's trash," Avyaansh said and observed Rajeev sweating badly. They are about to join the partnership and this much Rajeev should have known. Avyaansh is such a ruthless businessman and he won't spare him if he tries to double-cross him.
"I need time to sort out these things. Please understand" Rajeev said. "Surely, I can understand sir and I also understand how important this marriage is for you" Avyaansh choose his words wisely and when Rajeev gave his keen attention to him he proceeded further.
"Tomorrow is the marriage. Neil won't be out before a month and most importantly the loan you had to pay back to the bank. And this hotel project is one of the most important things this marriage was supposed to happen" when Rajeev didn't interrupt him Avyaansh continued. "I am willing to marry your daughter" finally he said and Rajeev's eyes shot up to him.
He thought he misheard him and a frown etched on his face. Avyaansh remained calm before Rajeev could say anything he further added "This hotel is my dream project as you already know and I am willing to do anything just to make this happen and this is the reason I am ready for this marriage if you agree" Avyaansh stood up buttoning up his blazer so as Rajeev.
She dialed again but still, the call went unanswered like before. She tried again and then again before she heard a knock on her door. She opened the door and found her father standing there.
"Dad, where were you? I was calling you but your phone was unreachable" She spoke out as soon as she saw her father. The worry on her face finally faded away seeing him.
"Princess, come here," Rajeev said and ambled to the couch in her room. "Sit here" he made her sit on the couch while he sat on the chair in front of her. "I need to have a word with you" Rajeev contemplated before saying.
"Say it dad" Shanaya encouraged him and he nodded at her. "Neil has been arrested in some false case" Rajeev started and Shanaya gaped at him in bewilderment. "W…What?" she uttered, perplexed. "Listen to me carefully princess, you are my child. I don't want any harm to you" he said and when she didn't stop him, he continued. "Neil won't be out any time soon," He said looking at her, who was sitting there stumped.
"So, you are getting married to Avyaansh," he declared at last and her eyes went wide in realization. "D…Dad" she whispered in disbelief and pulled her hands back. "Princess I know I might sound selfish but right now your marriage is the only thing that matters to me. You are important to me, I don't want any harm to you and Avyaansh is the best for you that I can assure you" He enunciated and she was in for a surprise.
'Neil was in prison. How?' This thing was running through her mind. "But dad…he" she began when Rajeev cut her off in the middle. "He's the best choice for you. He asked for your hand in marriage" he said, giving her an assuring smile.
"Shanaya was still confused whether, on the other hand, Rajeev was comprehending how to convince his daughter. He was confident that she wouldn't refuse his proposition but still, he didn't want to take any risk. He will do anything in his hand to persuade her of this marriage. "He doesn't have any problem?" she questioned meekly and Rajeev smiled at her.
"No, he will keep you happy just say yes my child" he looked at her expectantly the look that she couldn't deny.
"Are you ready princess? If you have any problem then I won't force…" Shanaya didn't let him continue further and spoke out hurriedly. "I am ready dad" Rajeev smiled at her kissing the crown of her face and patting her hair gently. "I was expecting this only. Thank you so much" he declared.
"Take a rest, I will be leaving then," he let out before walking out of her room while she sat in her place, perplexed. It was just yesterday she was making an effort to forget him and now how drastically her life has changed. She was getting married to him.
She grabbed her phone and dialed him and waited impatiently for him. A frown was etched on her forehead when the call went unanswered. She opened the chat and messaged him "I need to talk to you. Pick up the phone" she typed and waited for his reply.
The message was delivered but he still didn't see it. She tried to call him again but he again didn't answer the call. She sighed in disappointment before laying on the mattress. She needed to talk with him about what had happened and why he agreed to the marriage.
"Is he mad at me?" She murmured before closing her eyes and thinking to talk with him in the morning first.
