Chapter 153 Wherever You Go, I Go

Chapter 153 Wherever You Go, I Go

Night, The Kensington Estates.

Sophia was keeping watch in Emily's room as usual, an open book resting on her lap, but her mind was wandering elsewhere.

Suddenly, Emily's body moved. Her fingers curled into a fist, her shoulders shifted slightly, her eyelashes fluttered a few times, and she slowly opened her eyes.

"Emily?" Sophia snapped back to attention and called out softly.

The light was a bit harsh. Emily squinted, slowly bringing her vision into focus, and looked at Sophia.

"Sophia," her voice was hoarse, "I'm thirsty."

Sophia froze for a second, and her eyes suddenly welled up. She stood up, poured a glass of warm water, supported Emily's back to help her sit up, handed her the glass, and watched as she took small sips.

"Thank you." After finishing the water, Emily looked up and blinked obediently. "I've been feeling much better lately. I want to try getting out of bed and walking around."

Sophia smiled, reaching out to tuck the stray hair from her forehead behind her ear. "You just woke up. Don't move around yet."

"Okay." Emily pouted, then suddenly grabbed her wrist and said seriously, "Sophia, you've lost weight."

"A lot has happened during this time, hasn't it?" Emily reached up to touch her face, gently brushing the faint dark circles under her eyes, and asked with concern, "Are you okay?"

Sophia's movements stiffened. Her body wanted to pull back but she held herself still. She grasped Emily's hand in return and said softly, "I'm fine. And now that you're okay, I'm even better."

"That's good." Emily stared at her for a while, taking in every subtle change in her face, then finally withdrew her hand, leaned back against the pillow, and didn't ask any more questions.

Sophia pressed her lips together, looking like she wanted to say something but held back.

What Alexander had done during the day—imprisoning Dwayne—weighed on her heart and stirred her emotions.

One more week, and the part of the winery project she was responsible for would be wrapped up.

After that, she would leave.

She confirmed this decision in her mind once more. Emily was awake now. She had no reason to stay here anymore. For her, everything in Emerald Harbor that needed to end was almost over.

Even if Alexander hadn't done this, she would have taken revenge on Dwayne in her own way.

Seeing her gloomy expression, Emily asked with concern, "Sophia, what's wrong?"

"Nothing." Sophia smiled, thought for a moment, then said, "I'm planning to leave Emerald Harbor in about a week."

"Okay. Wherever you go, I'll go." Emily answered almost without thinking, smiling back.

Sophia hadn't expected her to agree so readily. Her throat moved slightly.

"With you around, I'm not afraid of anything," Emily added. "I just need to be with you."

"Emily." Sophia was moved, her eyes welling up with warmth, and she gripped Emily's hand tightly.

Emily said nothing, just nodded at her.

Three days later, morning.

Sophia arrived at Kirk's large estate carrying a full bag.

Kirk's butler opened the door, smiling warmly as he led her inside.

Kirk was sitting in a chair by the window with a cup of coffee beside him. When he saw her, surprise flashed in his eyes first, then his expression relaxed, and he gestured for her to sit.

Sophia politely sat across from him, placed the bag on the coffee table, and took out the items one by one.

Several boxes of handmade scented candles, jars of medicinal herbs, and several packages of nutritional supplements she'd selected based on an elderly person's constitution—she laid them out on the table one by one.

"These scented candles are all handmade by me. They're nothing fancy, but I think they smell nice. If you have trouble sleeping, you can light one. These herbs can help strengthen your body." She spoke earnestly.

Kirk looked down, curiously examining each item, picked up a scented candle, brought it close to smell it, and his eyes filled with warmth. "You're so thoughtful."

"It's nothing." Sophia smiled. "I just thought of you and prepared these. You need to take care of yourself."

After exchanging pleasantries, the conversation naturally flowed, and Kirk asked about the winery project's progress. Sophia briefly mentioned that it was nearly finished and that her part had no issues.

Kirk nodded but didn't bring up the worker's accidental death.

At that moment, Sophia lowered her head and took something from her bag.

The photo she'd taken from Abigail—a small one with yellowed edges. She placed the photo on the coffee table and pushed it toward Kirk.

"A lady gave this to me. I think you should see it."

Kirk's face darkened as his gaze fell on the photo.

On a sunny beach, two people—a man and a woman—stood on rocks. The wind blew the woman's hair up, and the man turned toward her, as if saying something. Both looked relaxed, young, and were smiling beautifully.

Kirk's hand trembled slightly.

Sunlight from outside streamed in, softening the old photo, making the two people in it seem as if they were still alive somewhere.

Kirk's eyes slowly reddened.

He wiped the corners of his eyes with the back of his hand, said nothing, just held the photo in his hands, his shoulders trembling slightly.

Sophia stood up, walked over to him, leaned down, and gently hugged him.

"I believe they're doing well in heaven too. And the bad people have definitely gotten what they deserved."

Kirk listened, his grip on the photo tightening.

"Mr. Clark, actually, I came today to tell you something." Sophia straightened up, stepped back, and said in a serious tone, "I'm planning to leave Emerald Harbor."

"So sudden? Did you have a fight with Alexander?" Kirk was somewhat surprised. "Where are you going?"

"Somewhere outside Emerald Harbor."

"Will you come back?"

Sophia paused, then shook her head. "Not sure."

Kirk composed himself. "Alright, then be safe. If you run into any trouble, come find me anytime. I'll always be here."

His weathered eyes gazed at Sophia. He always had this strange feeling—even though he'd only known Sophia for a short time, she felt so familiar, and he felt a strong sense of closeness to her.

Sometimes, he even thought that perhaps Sophia was his long-lost granddaughter.

At this thought, Kirk's gaze softened even more.

Sophia's lips curved into a beautiful smile. "Thank you, Mr. Clark."

In the end, she didn't tell Kirk her true identity. She hoped that both Kirk and she could embrace new lives.

After leaving Kirk's residence, Sophia returned to the Kensington Group feeling light and relieved.

As soon as she walked into the lobby, she heard several employees at the front desk chatting together.

"Did you see the news? That drug caused someone's death!"
