Chapter Eleven

Chapter Eleven
"Well, I don't see what's wrong with that. All he is doing is looking out for you. I mean, he is your brother." Kayleigh talks on as she hands out leaflets which promoted the upcoming school dance that following summer.

"Yeah but still....it's...it's weird."

Kayleigh creases her brow, handing a few more out. Most of the time she didn't seem to get me. She was my best friend but sometimes it really didn't feel like it. "How is it?"
I sigh, "Well, he comes across as a bit of a control freak." With that, she giggles. "Alana, it's a brother thing...brothers are allowed to be controlling. It's just what they do."

"That doesn't make it right tho." I reason.
"If it bothers you that much. Stay away from him."

I roll my eyes, "I do! That's the annoying thing about it. He is everywhere I look! I can't get away." Kayleigh smiles cheekily and scoffs.

"Excuse me! Oi!" Someone behind us shouts. Kayleigh looks round, her hands on her hips, her right hand still full of leaflets. I noticed some had been dropped or chucked on the floor.
"These ain't official !" A boy with blonde hair complains, waving a leaflet in the air. "I think you'll find they are."

"How so? Look!" He points.

He points to the cheap looking style of lettering on the leaflet. I give a slanted smile and then turn back towards Kayleigh who is standing beside me with a unimpressed look plastered on her face.

"Well that is purely because...because.."

The boy tilts his head in a intrigued manner. "Because what?"

Kayleigh eventually huffs in defeat and crosses her arms like a stubborn 6 year old. "Whatever fine. Maybe they aren't that great but I'll have you know I was the one student who was prepared to go to the trouble of printing these out!" She flaps the bunch of leaflets in her hand.

The boy smirks and nods, "Yes maybe so...but u didn't give the design or importance of quality much thought did you?"

Kayleigh glanced at me, gob smacked. I give her a serious look but once she looks back towards him I cannot help but smirk into the hem of my blouse.

"Like you have any position on judging my thinking on graphic designing!" She shoots.

"Oh I know a lot. As a matter of fact I study graphic design and photography and I know for a fact that those leaflets in your hand ain't even worth your time handing out." He shoots politely with a sneaky smile. He quickly covers it with two fingers tapping on his lips as though he was disappearing into a train of thought.

"It's ok Kayleigh...maybe we can start over and this time I give you a hand." I suggest quietly as I study the invisible fumes bursting out of Kayleigh's ears.

"Or ladies...I can give u some tips on looking more into graphic design and how you can computerise the leaflets a lot more properly ...? How's that offer for you?" He glances over to me with a sexy stance and I can't help but melt.

Up close he seemed like a human version of an animal. In this case I thought a deer, tall, stern and wise. Quick, survivor and self awareness.

His deep green eyes captured me instantly with his pale skin and the streak of blonde hair that dangled over his right eye as he stared back at me. After a moment I had to blink and remember where I was.
Kayleigh sighed and finally agreed. "Fine! But I'm staying in charge of the organisation and planning."

The boy held his hand upon his chest and smile peacefully, "Fair enough. I will be beholder of the design of your ridiculous hand outs."

Kayleigh crosses her arms again, "Oi! Don't diss it yeah?"

"Who are you anyway? We didn't even get your name." I cut in quietly.

Kayleigh nods and creases her brows. "Yeah why she said.
You could be anyone!"

The boy smiles at me and holds his hand put towards me to shake. "I'm Marcus."

I take his hand shakily and shake it slowly as he clasps my hand. "Alana." I say with a small smile.

"And I'm Kayleigh! Her best mate!"

He smirks over to her as he lets go of my hand. Our fingers brushing as our palms part from each other.

"Well you seem quite delusional to be any sort of friend of hers." He scoffs.

"Oh whatever yeah. I'm wonderful and everyone here knows that." With that she turns, flipping her hair in the process and walks off as she swings her hips.

"Well I think we can safely say you two won't be bonding." I smirk at him. He grins. "Well that's good news coz I wasn't planning to." He winks.

"I've never seen you. Are you new?"

"No? I'm in your Science class." He says. Then I realise...

"Oh my wow err...your that weird quiet boy who sits at the back of the class and draws all the time."

He smirks and winks, "That's me. Although I wouldn't classify it as weird."

"Yeah sorry it's just how everyone describes you."

He nods understandingly. "Yup I could have guessed." I stare at his eyes for another moment admiring the green glint of them and that strange streak of blonde hair that just hides them in a mysterious way.

"So would you consider on working on some leaflets???"

"With who?" I blink.

He rolls his eyes, "Me. God you're as tired as you look young lady."

I blink again. His eyes just burn me regardless of the words that flow out of his pale pink lips.

"We could arrange something maybe. Help your friend out."

I tilt my head. "And why should I suddenly start trusting you like so quick I've only just met you."

"I hardly reckon I'm gonna axe murder you at your house whilst helping u with those damn' leaflets."

"Well it's a possibility," I raise an eyebrow.

"It's just leaflets, Alana...what could go wrong." He grins. I purse my lips and look him up and down suspiciously, "A lot."

"Don't be dull girl." He winks.

"Well Marcus if we are to design this stupid leaflets...may we go to my house and not yours since I hardly know you."

"I would have suggested that anyway. Yes why not." He nods. He looks down at the time on his phone and raises a brow, "shite pike I must start getting off I'm late."

"For what? The bell hasn't gone for lesson yet?"

"Nothing important for you to have to know. Catch you later yeah." Before I can reply he is already half way down the corridor, running desperately on darting legs all of the place.

"What could go wrong..."

"What a cheek telling me my leaflets are a waste of time. Who the bloody hell does he think he is!" Kayleigh gapes as she scrambles furiously on his note book trying to finish a piece of history homework.

"Why leave that till now, you had a whole week to do it Kay." I sigh, laying back on her double bed, staring at my phone and just scrolling through Facebook, nosing on the recent statuses of fake purple who call themselves my friends. Sometimes I imagine myself shooting them in the brain as the fakeness bothers me so much.
The only true friend i had ever had was Kayleigh but even she could be hard to handle at times.
"You know I really don't get why he keeps up that reputation..."
My phone bleeps.. it's Mason.

'I need to talk to you'

"Hey listen Kay I'll catch you later. There's a emergency at home with Mum."
She sighs, "Fine catch you later yeah ..."

I grab my bag and coat and dash out her front door. "See you tomorrow!!"

"Chow babes!"

God knows what Mason's talk was to do with but I was going to get close to him once again for some unknown reason. I found myself unable to see him.

Wow this affection...was worse than what I thought.
