Preparing for celebrations.

Preparing for celebrations.
Aria’s POV

The castle feels alive in a way it has not since I came here, every hallway and courtyard echoing with laughter, hurried footsteps, and the soft clatter of servants carrying fabrics, flowers, and trays of food. I find myself smiling as I walk through the familiar corridors, breathing in the scents of fresh bread from the kitchens, roses from the gardens, and the faint sweetness of honeyed wine that seems to drift from one end of the palace to the other. It is as if the very stones themselves are breathing again, no longer weighed down by fear, heavy with the shadow of battle, but instead open, bright, and full of anticipation for the days to come.
Preparations for the wedding move forward with a kind of joyful chaos that makes my head spin and my heart swell all at once, because everywhere I turn, hands are busy stitching golden thread into gowns, hanging banners in the colors of our kingdom, polishing silver, arranging flowers, and rehearsing the music that will soon echo through the great hall. I cannot take more than a few steps without being stopped by someone who bows or smiles or presses a question about what color flowers should adorn the altar, what dishes should be served at the feast, or what crown should be placed upon my head when I walk beside Darius and become his wife before all our people.
Darius himself walks among the preparations too, though in his own way, his stride steady, his voice calm and reassuring as he speaks to the captains of the guard, ensuring that even in celebration, the castle remains secure. Yet, I see the softness in his eyes when he glances at me across the hall, a look that tells me he would rather be standing by my side than discussing security details, a look that makes my heart race even in the midst of all this whirlwind. Sometimes he catches me watching him, and the faintest smile pulls at his lips, a smile that belongs not to the King or the Lycan commander, but to the man who has carried me through fire and darkness and now promises me a life filled with light.
Amelia, always graceful, has taken on the task of overseeing much of the work, and I watch her in awe as she moves through the palace like a guiding hand, her words calm but firm, her presence steadying those around her. She has become the heart of so much of what is happening, whether it is making sure the seamstresses have enough silk or reassuring a nervous musician that their song will be perfect when the moment comes. I laugh softly to myself sometimes, wondering if she even realizes how naturally she commands, not with authority like Darius, but with a gentle strength that makes people want to follow her.
In the gardens, children run freely, their laughter like bells in the air, chasing one another beneath the archways where garlands of flowers are already being strung, their petals swaying in the breeze, filling the air with fragrance so rich it almost makes me dizzy. I pause by the fountain, watching them, and a warmth spreads through me at the sight of their joy, their innocence untouched by the battles we have fought, and I think to myself that this is what we have all been fighting for, not crowns or titles or power, but moments like this, where life can simply be lived without fear, where children can laugh in the sunlight, where families can gather without worry.
Every evening, as the sun sinks low and the castle glows in the orange light of dusk, Darius and I walk the halls together, taking in the progress, talking softly about what still needs to be done, and dreaming quietly about what lies beyond the wedding day. He tells me of the vows he wishes to make, not just as my husband but as a leader to his people, promises of protection and unity, words that carry weight because they are not spoken lightly. I tell him of my hopes, that light will always have a place in our kingdom, that love will be the foundation of what we build together, and that no matter what comes, we will never lose the bond that has carried us through everything so far. His hand always finds mine in those moments, strong and sure, and though I am surrounded by a thousand preparations, it is those quiet walks that I treasure most.
At night, when the castle grows quieter, the flicker of torches casting long shadows across the stone walls, I sometimes stand on the balcony overlooking the city, watching the lights in the homes below, hearing the faint hum of life drifting upward. The people are celebrating too, I know, their faith in us restored, their joy bubbling over as they prepare to witness not just a wedding but a symbol of a future stronger than the past. From the balcony, I can see the great square where they will gather, the place already being decorated with flowers and banners, and I imagine it filled with smiling faces, the sound of music and cheering rising like a wave.
The Blood Moon draws closer each day, its promise looming in the sky, but where once its light was a thing of fear, now it feels like a blessing, a reminder that we have endured, that we have emerged stronger, that the bond between Darius and me is not something the darkness could break. I know that on that night, when the moon hangs heavy and full above us, its glow will not mark an ending but a beginning, a moment when everything we have fought for will be sealed not in battle but in love.
Even the warriors who once stood bloodied and weary are now laughing, training only lightly, their spirits lifted, their eyes brighter. I walk past the training yard one afternoon and watch as they spar not with grim determination but with playful grins, their movements still sharp but lighter, their hearts clearly no longer burdened with dread. They call out greetings when they see me, and I return them with warmth, letting my light brush over them as I pass, and I see in their eyes that they feel it, that they carry that strength with them now, not as something I gave them but as something that belongs to them.
Inside the great hall, the long tables are being polished, the chandeliers cleaned until they sparkle, and the musicians gather to rehearse, their notes floating through the air like soft promises of joy to come. I pause there often, listening, closing my eyes as the music washes over me, and I imagine myself walking down that aisle, Darius waiting at the end, his eyes steady, his smile small but full of meaning, and my heart leaps in my chest every time at the thought that soon it will no longer be a dream but reality.
The days pass quickly, filled with work, laughter, small moments of chaos, and even smaller moments of stillness, and before I know it, the palace is nearly ready, the people eager, and the moon already beginning to swell in the sky above us. And through it all, I carry a single thought like a flame in my heart: that everything we endured, every battle, every scar, every night of fear, has led us here, to joy, to peace, to love, and to the promise of a future where light shines brighter than darkness ever could.
