42: A THREAT LURKS

Emma was still trying to wrap her head around the chaos that had erupted since the press conference. She had been getting constant messages and calls from fans, both supportive and critical. She was starting to feel like she was losing her sense of reality.

Emma was busy preparing dinner in the kitchen, lost in thought as she chopped the vegetables for the stir-fry. It was a peaceful evening, the sun setting over the hills outside, casting a warm orange glow over the room. Suddenly, her phone buzzed with an unknown number breaking the silence

She hesitated for a moment before answering it, wondering who it could be. "Hello?" she said, trying to sound cheerful.

A low, menacing laugh echoed through the line, making Emma's heart skip a beat. "You don't know me, Emma," a cold, female voice said. "But I know all about you and your three lovers."

Emma's grip on the knife tightened. Who was this stranger? "Who is this?" she demanded, trying to keep her voice steady.

The woman laughed again, the sound sending shivers down Emma's spine. "You don't need to know my name," she said. "But you should know that I'm watching you. I'm watching Brayden and Brent too."

Emma's mind raced as she tried to process what was happening. This woman seemed to be threatening her and the guys, but why? What did she have against them? "What do you want?" Emma asked, trying to keep her tone firm.

The woman's laughter grew louder, more menacing. "I'll tell you what I want," she said. "I want you to stay away from both of them. You're just a phase, Emma. A fleeting infatuation. They deserve someone better than you, and plus you already have a husband."

Emma's anger flared up at the insult, but she tried to keep her cool. "Who are you to tell me who Brayden and Brent deserve?" she spat back.

"Oh, you'd be surprised what I know," the woman said, her voice dripping with malice. "You see, they have a past, Emma. A past that you're not aware of. And if you keep pursuing him, you'll only get hurt."

“Is this related to Heather?” Emma questioned.

“HaHaHa, no! I can promise you they have had other women in their lives other than that crazy, bitch!” The stranger laughed.

Emma felt a surge of fear mixed with anger. Who was this woman? What secrets was she hiding? And what did she mean by "a past"?

She tried to keep her voice steady as she spoke again. "What do you want me to do?"

The woman's laughter came again, low and menacing. "Just stay away from him," she said. "Leave him alone before it's too late."

The line went dead before Emma could respond, leaving her feeling shaken and uneasy. Who was this mysterious woman? And what secrets was she hiding about Brayden's past?

As she hung up the phone, Emma felt a sense of foreboding washing over her. She glanced around the kitchen. She took a deep breath and tried to shake off the feeling of unease. But as she turned back to the stove, her eyes kept drifting back to the phone number on the screen - 555-1234 - as if trying to memorize it.

This wasn't over yet. Not by a long shot.

Emma called Ginger immediately telling her everything from the creepy phone call.

“I mean what does the crazy lady want you to do? Does she not realize that you live together?” Ginger was astonished at the craziness of this woman.

"You know what? We haven’t had the first reporter show up at the house. So maybe no one knows that yet. I'm going to tell Brent and Brayden about this," Emma said, trying to think clearly. "We'll figure out what to do together."

Ginger nodded, even though Emma couldn't see her. "Be careful, Emma. I don't know what kind of person this woman is. There are a lot of crazy people out there."

Emma hung up the phone and took a deep breath. She knew she had to tell the brothers about this threat, but she also knew they would be furious when they found out what was happening.

Emma tried to push the unsettling conversation out of her mind as she finished preparing dinner. But as soon as Brayden and the guys walked in the door, she couldn't help but fill him in on what had happened.

"Hey, babe," Brayden and Jackson said, dropping their bags on the floor and giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. "What's up?"

Emma filled them in on the threatening phone call, trying to convey the unease and fear that still lingered in her stomach. Brayden listened intently, his expression growing more serious with each passing second.

"What the hell," he said when she finished. Brayden was angry pacing the floor, “Who the hell do these people think they are? Did she indicate a name or anything?”

Emma shrugged. "I don't know. She didn't give me a name or any specific reason for calling. Just some vague threats and warnings." Emma thought for a minute, “But one odd thing, I asked her if this had anything to do with Heather and she got mad saying she was crazy.”

Brayden's eyes narrowed. " So, it sounds like this woman might know Heather personally. I don't like this one bit," he said. "We need to tell Brent about this."

Emma nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She had been thinking the same thing.

"We should also report it to the police," Brayden said, pulling out his phone to dial Brent's number

Emma shook her head. "I don't know...it just felt so personal and weird. I don't want to make a big deal out of it if it's just some prank caller."

But Brayden was insistent. "We can't ignore it, Em. We need to take this seriously."

After a few minutes on the phone with Brent, Brayden convinced Emma to report the incident to the police. Jackson helped her and they spent the next hour making a statement and providing as much information as they could about the mysterious caller.

As they sat down to dinner, Emma couldn't shake off the feeling that this was just the beginning of something bigger. She glanced at Brayden, who was still chatting with Brent on his phone again.

"What are we going to do if this woman shows up?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Brayden looked up from his phone, his expression serious. "We'll deal with it together," he said. "We're in this together, always."

Emma felt a surge of gratitude and love for him. She knew that no matter what lay ahead, she could face it with her guys by her side.

As they finished dinner and started cleaning up, Emma realized that she didn't feel as scared or anxious anymore. With Brayden, Brent, and Jackson by her side, she knew that they could handle whatever came their way.

But deep down, she knew that this wasn't over yet. The mysterious caller had made a threat, and Emma was determined to find out who she was and why she was targeting them.
