Chapter 183
AMELIA
Oh, Goddess.
My heart broke to see Margaret lying on the ground with a hole in her chest, and as I looked at everyone they were exhausted and beaten up.
I didn’t know how were they still standing despite their bruises, cuts, and wounds, and the devastating tragedy surrounding them, and the ground looked like it had been wiped out by a hurricane.
I was glad I wasn’t too late. As Victor helped the people out of the demon’s lair, I distracted him, now wearing my father’s face.
“You chose the wrong face, asshole. You targeted the wrong people to mess up. You’re maybe stronger, but I will take you down with me and send you to hell.”
“Do you really think you can defeat me? Look at them.” He gestured at everyone. “Many of them are dead. They’ve tried, and they failed. I suggest to bow down to me.”
“Well, they’re not me. And no one is bowing down to you because the last thing we want is to be ruled by someone who is Lucifer’s puppet. You live in hell and this earth is close to heaven, asswipe!” I pulled out my sword, and he saw it. I also saw the glint in his eyes.
“The same sword that killed you.”
“So what?” I raised my eyebrows.
“I’ll use it to kill you again.”
“You may have my father’s face, but you don’t have his power, do you now, dickhead? Show me your wings. Come on.”
“Everyone’s out. Close the rift now, Amelia!” Victor yelled at me.
I raised my palm to the rift. “Miserere lapsorum. Claude ostium peccatoribus.” The light shut off, and the rift disappeared.
“Do you know the consequences of creating your own spell?”
“I will do anything in my power to save these people from you, even if I have to sacrifice my life, but you can’t do that, can you? Because you’re not even alive. You’re a ghost, a demon. You don’t have a soul. That’s what separates us, Bune.” I took a deep breath and aimed my sword at him. “Elementals, work together.”
“They don’t even know how.” The demon changed his face again. This time, he was tall, pale with prominent cheekbones and dark hair.
“Is that supposed to impress me?”
“This is the face of the man you’ve been working for fourteen months, Amelia. I’m the director.”
“Thanks. Why did you ruin my father’s legacy?”
“I hated him for centuries. He always managed to rule everyone while I was just his puppet, do this and do that. Don’t do this and do that. Then all of a sudden, he fell in love with a human. So much for the pitch about laws. The next thing I knew, he impregnated her when he kept saying that we should not break any God’s law. Well, I wasn’t exactly made the way you do.”
“Oh. So you chose to throw him under the bus. Is that it?” I pursed my lips. “From what I know, your father was a Nephilim. You still have Nephilim blood, but why kill me?”
“Because you’re purer than mine.”
“Ouch to you. And I take that as a compliment.”
I didn’t know the guys were listening until they chuckled.
“Do you think it’s funny? I have to take life to survive!”
“Just kill yourself, then. You go to hell, be with Lucifer. That’s where you belong.” I raised my hand. “Wait a minute. I’m confused. How are you a quarter Nephilim and a demon at the same time?”
“Because I promise him a throne!” He yelled at me.
“You promised who?” I hid my smile.
“Amelia, what are you doing?” Zarah asked. I could hear the sadness and heaviness in her voice.
“Buying your time, guys.” I widened my eyes at them.
“Is that so?” The demon slash fake Nephilim asked.
“One question.” I raised my finger. “You have a special power, why did you work with a demon? It doesn’t make any sense. You killed Arakiel for what?”
“For vengeance!”
“Wow. You killed your grandfather or your father? I’m confused. Did you kill them both? Why? To rule or corrupt the underworld? Dude, your daddy-granddaddy issue is way beyond my comprehension. You killed, deceived, and controlled those people for vengeance?”
“My vengeance for every last Nephilim on this planet! You shouldn’t exist! If I can kill you, you can relive again. And you will die in my hands, Amelia! I swear to you.” He spat out in fury. His eyes were darker.
I shrugged my shoulder, hoping Ryden, Ren, and Nora already figured out what to do with the elements or we were all doomed.
“I hate you as much as you hated my existence, but you don’t belong here either, you soul-sucking demon!” I raised my sword and swung it at him.
I didn’t realize he had a weapon on his own. A long thick blade sword similar to the swords used by knights. He raised it to block me. The clinking sounds echoed, creating sparks of the two blades hitting each other. I let it slip, allowing the edge of my sword to glide down the blade of his.
I got it, the director was good at swordsmanship. Knowing he lived longer than any of us, he was also a demon and part Nephilim, he could beat me easily, but I wouldn’t go down without a fight and tried my very best to defeat him even if it was nearly impossible, like one in a billion chance.
He pulled it up and slammed right into me. Blocked by my sword, I used both hands to push it up, but he was stronger, and I fell on my knees to the ground. Gasps erupted from my friends.
Before he could stab me, I slid forward and got on my feet.
“I admire your tenacity, but you’re only prolonging your death. It’s inevitable, Amelia.” He smiled, and I hated it.
I recalled everything my Sensei taught me. We fought for minutes, and I lost count of how many times he almost had my neck. Exhaustion had finally shaken my limbs, and he took the opportunity to slam the sword into me. My sword flew from my grip, and I fell on my back to the ground. I crawled faster towards my weapon, but not fast enough. Then I watched him point the blade at me, and I rolled quickly and remembered my sidearm. How did it slip my mind while I was in the hellhole?
I shot him till the last round even if it was useless. He only bled and stumbled back, but he got up right away.
Then I heard a zing, a vibration, a sign that someone just grabbed my sword. When I looked back, it was in Lucius’ grip.
“Interesting. I almost forgot how good you are.” He smirked at Lucius running in his direction, giving me enough time to gather my strength back.
“What can I say? Only the student surpasses the master,” Lucius said with pride.
“You can try.” The demon snorted, mocking Lucius.
I ran towards Ryden, Nora, and Ren. “What the fuck, guys? Really, Ren?” I glared at him.
“I haven’t told you the truth. Since that vampire attack, I couldn’t get into my full power. Something is blocking it.”
“You have a performance issue? You were trained by the most elite warriors on this planet since you were in your diaper. It’s not about that attack that blocked your power, it’s the fear of that night that’s stopping you. Let it go. Face it, Ren! This is your moment. The three of you.” I gripped his arm, shook him, and looked right into his eyes.
“What do we do, my love?” Ryden cupped my head and kissed me on the lips. “I’m so glad you’re back and okay.”
“I’m barely hanging in there, but hold and trust each other, and let one of you take control of the elements.”
“I can’t do it,” Ren told Ryden.
“You do it, Ry,” Nora said. “You’re the alpha, your wolf is stronger than us, and we trust you.”
“How didn’t we even think about it?” Ren asked them.
“We were all preoccupied.”
“Let me help,” Zarah came with Samarah.
When Lucius landed on my feet, I picked up the sword. “Thanks for the sub.”
