Chapter 102 MEETING
Chapter 102 MEETING
“How’s her condition?” Henry asked, staring at Giselle, who was bandaged all over and lying on the ward’s bed. Her legs were badly injured and elevated in the air with medical equipment.
“Not good. Her vitals are extremely low, and her chances of waking up are pretty slim. Also, she will never be able to use her legs again,” the doctor said, staring down at the medical report in his hands.
“What do you mean her chances of survival are slim? You are one of the best hospitals in the city. You have to do something!” Henry snapped, glaring at the doctor, who simply adjusted his glasses and looked away.
“I can only do the physical part of my job. Whether she survives or wakes up is ultimately up to her.” He pointed toward Giselle before walking out, leaving Henry unable to throw another accusation at him.
As soon as the door closed, Nelly, who had been sitting next to the window, stood up.
“Have you tried contacting Carter?” she asked, folding her arms underneath her breasts.
To be honest, she loved the fact that Giselle had lost everything and didn’t care about her. But what unsettled her was that it seemed like a pattern.
Max got beaten and tossed out, and he had been in the hospital for months. Then Carter went missing. The coordinates and everything indicated that he had left the country.
Now Giselle had turned into a mad woman on the street, ended up with broken legs, and had her career destroyed. Records of her high school bullying and everything else had been exposed, alongside Carter, who had helped her.
“He’s been unreachable for a while!”
Henry gritted his teeth “That bastard! When I get my hands on him, he’s going to regret going off the radar!”
He almost slammed his phone against the ground, but Cash stopped him.
“Don’t smash it, Boss still has to contact us through it!” she said.
He scoffed.
“Do you think I don’t know that, bitch?” he snapped, shoving her hands away.
Nelly sighed before turning to them.
“Isn’t something about all this fishy?”
They all went silent, staring at her for several seconds.
“Come on. First Max, then Carter, now Giselle. What if someone is hunting us? Coming after us?” she asked. “The three of us are left. What if they come for us too?”
Henry and Nelly exchanged worried looks, but Cash simply stared at the ground, trying not to meet their eyes, which made Nelly eyes narrow with suspicion.
“Cash, you’ve been acting weird lately,” Nelly said.
Cash trembled. Her pupils dilated as she bit down on her bottom lip.
Did Nelly know that she was up to something?
She took a deep breath and lifted her head. “Strange? I’m just being calculative. I think they are coming for those who have something to lose,” she said.
Her words made their suspicious gazes dim with fright and realization.
“You’re right. Carter’s company is already in decline and on the verge of bankruptcy. Giselle’s career is ruined, and Max will never be able to fight illegal fights anymore.” Nelly paused. “So the question is, who has something to lose next?”
Everyone’s faces turned pale.
Cash’s lips parted as if she wanted to add something, but then Giselle moved her fingers.
Henry noticed it immediately and walked toward her.
“Hey,” he called softly.
Giselle’s brows twitched before her eyes slowly opened. She stared at them, but no words escaped her lips.
“Call the doctor,” Nelly said.
Cash immediately walked out of the room.
“Wa-ter…” Giselle managed to whisper.
Henry quickly grabbed the bottle of water he had brought with him. He poured some into the cap and gently placed it against her lips while she slowly drank.
“Whe-re am I?” she asked, staring around in confusion.
“ICU,” Nelly answered.
Giselle’s eyes widened.
It was then that images of the car accident flashed through her mind. Her expression turned grim, and when her gaze landed on her bandaged legs, she froze.
“I can’t move my legs!” she stuttered.
They both went silent, exchanging looks as they wondered whether she needed to know the truth.
Seeing that they were keeping quiet, Giselle lifted her hand and grabbed Henry’s shirt.
“What happened to me?” she asked, each word coming out slowly.
Henry’s lips parted, but before he could answer, the door opened and the doctor walked in.
He took his medical torch and approached her, gently sliding her eyelid open and shining the light into her eyes.
“No signs of concussion or memory loss,” he mumbled before stepping back.
“She’s okay and healthy,” he said, Henry sighed in relief.
“Thank you, Doctor,” Henry said.
The doctor nodded and gazed at Giselle. There wasn’t even a fraction of pity in his eyes. Instead, his expression looked almost judgmental before he turned and walked away.
Giselle hated the look he gave her and scoffed as he left.
“What about my le—”
“You will no longer be able to move your legs,” Nelly chirped in.
Giselle froze.
Her face went completely blank before she laughed as if Nelly were joking.
“Come on, how can that be?” she mumbled, turning toward Henry, but he still had that serious expression on his face.
Giselle’s gaze slowly landed on her legs.
“No legs…” she whispered in a daze.
“Well, you don’t need to be worried. I know lots of people without legs, and they seem to be doing well for themselves!” Nelly continued.
She was trying to make Giselle feel better, but somehow, she only made things worse.
“No legs…” Giselle repeated.
Henry moved closer, trying to comfort her, but suddenly stopped in his tracks.
He looked around.
Where was Cash?
He moved toward the door and walked out.
Behind him, Giselle erupted into an agonizing scream, but he didn’t turn back.
He looked around the hospital hall, but there was no sign of Cash.
Then he retraced his steps and headed toward the hospital roof.
Cash was there, her phone was glued to her ear as she spoke in a low tone.
Henry’s eyes dimmed as he moved closer, careful not to make a sound. When he was close enough, he managed to catch a few words.
“I’ll be there in a few hours,” he heard her say.
Then—
“Who are you talking to?”
Cash turned around. Her eyelids relaxed, her lips pursed tightly, and she smiled.
“My little sister,” she replied.
He didn’t believe her until he heard a tiny voice from the phone.
“I want ice cream. Get one for me, big sis.”
His suspicious gaze eased immediately.
“I’ll call you back later,” Cash said before ending the call.
“Why call your sister on the roof, though?” Henry asked.
“The hospital was noisy. Plus, I didn’t want to stay in the ward, knowing fully well Giselle would go into a mental breakdown,” she explained.
Henry gently rubbed his temple. “You’re right,” he said with a sigh, but then the rooftop door suddenly burst open.
“What are you doing here? Giselle was sedated!” Nelly screamed.
Everyone froze.
“What did she do?” Henry asked.
Nelly lifted her hair, revealing a scratch mark on her face.
“She took off the tubes and did this to me. That bitch! Even with no legs, she’s still so arrogant. Maybe she should have died!” Nelly cursed.
Both Henry and Cash stopped in their tracks.
Henry’s lips parted to say something, but then his eyes landed on Boss, Sapphire, standing in front of them.
“Bos—”
His words died in his throat as Sapphire raised her hand.
Her lips parted as if she wanted to say something, but then she stopped.
She remembered Aaron’s words: "You can’t get any help from the others. If they find out Celina is Erica, I’ll put a bullet through your head, and you will admit that you are nothing!"
Her eyes dimmed, she licked her lips, then something crossed her mind.
A smile slowly appeared on her face. “We have to talk.”
Everyone froze.
“Celina is alive!”
