Chapter 313 Emily Digs a Hole
Chapter 313 Emily Digs a Hole
"Philip, is it so embarrassing to admit you like Lyra?" William said.
"What?" Philip's heart skipped a beat at his words, his eyes momentarily dazed.
William looked at the children standing not far away, his eyes softened with affection, and his voice grew deeper as he spoke.
"You seem to have forgotten, you were the one who insisted on bringing her into the circle."
William looked down, carefully examined Philip, who was in a disheveled state on the ground. Philip's mouth had been punched, left with purple bruises at the corners, and his eyes showed confusion at William's words.
Philip frowned tightly, began to recalled his first memories with Lyra.
Not just him, even Lyra had almost forgotten how she and Philip first met.
William's tone was emotionless. "Can you really tell the difference between genuine feelings and curiosity?"
His words left Philip frozen in place, staring blankly up at William's cold, hard jawline, falling into endless contemplation.
"Lyra, Lyra... so you're Simon Rivera's cousin? You're so delicate and pretty."
"Your cousin is my good friend, so I'm your brother too. Come on, Lyra, call me Philip."
Philip's mind went tense.
So he was the one who had insisted Lyra call him Philip from the beginning. He was the one who had pursued Lyra first.
Simon had long since settled abroad with his lover and hadn't returned to the country in years.
Over time, Philip had almost forgotten those distant events, because of his behavior, he'd even taken a punch from Simon.
By the time he came back to his senses.
William had already left with Emily.
Emily turned back and waved her little fist at him, warning him not to bully Sophia and Lyra.
But after just a few seconds, a cold wind blew past, and she quickly tucked her hand back into her fluffy coat, buried her face in William's neck to block out all the cold wind.
Emily reached a very important conclusion today: 'Can't fight in winter, it's too cold for your hands.'
The black Maybach soon drove away.
Behind the wall, Lyra's thoughts had just emerged from her memories.
"Sophia, why does time passed so quickly?" Lyra's sigh seemed not to expect a response.
Lyra didn't pay any more attention to the man at the door and turned back inside to the warm interior for breakfast.
Sophia chatted with Lyra for a bit, then ended the video call when a work call came in.
By the time she was free again, several hours had passed.
Thinking of what William had said to Philip, Sophia's eyes darkened.
When Emily came back, she wore a headband, holding the latest pink fox toy, and bounced back into the house.
James and Michael also carried some bags, with the rest in the hands of the bodyguards following behind.
As soon as they entered, Michael couldn't wait to share the day's events with Sophia.
"Mom, Dad got a work call and had to leave. Look, these are the toys Dad bought for Emily and us."
After leaving Crystal Lake Residences, the black Maybach turned into a nearby side road.
When it emerged again, it went straight onto the highway.
By then, William was no longer in the back seat.
More than ten minutes later, a low-key black car slowly drove out, heading in the opposite direction.
"Mr. Smith, the person who hit our car before got away."
Mark's eyes were alert as he watched the rearview mirror, constantly monitoring the surroundings.
In the back seat, William pinched his aching brow.
The man who had mysteriously appeared last time, upon investigation, had no powerful backing, but had an inexplicable hostility toward him.
William said coldly, "Have someone keep watching him."
After spending the weekend with James and Michael in Empire City, Sophia took Emily back to Rain Village.
However, before heading to Rain Village, she first went to the experimental base in Forton County that was being rapidly completed, but unexpectedly saw a somewhat familiar man at the site.
Logan, the person who had caused her trouble before.
"Look here, everything has been changed according to your requirements. Don't worry about the workers; there's absolutely no cutting corners. As long as you pay quickly enough, I guarantee the project will finish early, definitely won't drag on."
Ember was talking to her about the construction work.
Sophia frowned slightly, glancing at Ember, who was supervising on site, and asked, "What's he doing here?"
"Who?"
Ember turned to follow her gaze, then had a sudden realization. "Oh, you mean him? When we were hiring, he came for an interview. I saw his physical abilities were the best, he was quick, and the price was right, so I hired him on the spot. Is there a problem?"
"Not a huge problem, just that he tried to kidnap me."
Sophia's gaze fell on Logan's eyes that seemed to glance over intentionally or not, pondering his purpose.
A gang boss from Forton County.
No matter how badly things were going, he shouldn't need to be here moving bricks.
Ember, whose mouth was faster than her brain, blurted out, "Kidnapping? Well, that's really not a big prob—What! Kidnapping?"
Sophia glanced at her and said bluntly, "Why don't you just go shout it right in his ear?"
"I'm not afraid to scream in his ear, it's just that there is no point doing it."
Ember gossiped closer, raising her eyebrows and winking. "He's not your secret admirer, is he?"
Through this period of contact with Ember, Sophia had found that her personality, aside from being a bit too blunt, wasn't problematic.
Sophia raised an eyebrow. "Do you think I came here to listen to you tease me?"
"Ember, I'm your client right now. If you want to get paid quickly, go do your work now."
"OK, Ms. Johnson, I'll get right to work for you." Ember shrugged, took the blueprints in her hand, and went back to supervising.
The wind in Empire City already had the feel of winter.
But Cloud City, located in the far south, had more pleasant temperatures and a more comfortable climate.
Ember looked at the separately marked-off sandy area not far away, where Emily, wearing a doll-collar top and orange overalls, was playing with her toy shovel, digging in the sand.
Ember thought of her own son, Juan.
She'd heard he was now living with his grandparents, not staying with his philandering father. She wondered how he was doing.
Having put off her fluffy coat and changed into light clothes, Emily felt like she was a happy, nimble child again.
She turned to see Sophia approaching and smiled, seeking praise. "Mom, look, I dug such a big hole."
"Emily's amazing."
Sophia gave Emily some water, wiped the dirty dust from her face, and smiled. "What are you digging such a big hole for?"
Emily tilted her head, her little face full of serious thought.
After a long moment.
She finally answered with a giggle, "If anyone bullies Mom again, I'll bury them in it."
"I'll water them every day, and when spring comes, and flowers bloom, I'll pick the flowers and put them in a vase for Mom and Lyra to see."
Sophia was stunned.
Emily's idea was a bit dangerous.
Emily thought about Philip's height, then looked at the small pit in front of her, feeling it needed to be bigger.
"Mom, you go do your work. I'll dig a bit more."
Sophia fell silent.
