Chapter 86 Chapter 86
Selena
“What?” My brows tightened in disbelief.
Hannah’s lip curled in a smile. “You heard me. You should kneel since you refused to teach your maid. You taught her wrongly, so you should take responsibility.”
“That’s absurd. You don’t have to humiliate me now to get satisfied.” I sighed. Can’t this just pass? “ I have apologies and that should be enough.” I tried, a little smile on my face as I looked at her, hoping she had just dropped the matter.
I could hear whispers around us as I stood in a stance blocking Svetlana away from her.
“Let me kneel instead. Madam shouldn’t be held for what I did, I’m sorry. I have spoken out of line, please punish me.” Svetlana stepped forward, wanting to kneel, but I held her back.
“You aren’t kneeling.” Especially not after knowing she liked Zac, and there were higher chances of him liking her back. It would be embarrassing to watch her knee.
“What do you both think you are doing? A drama?” Hannah scorned. Now, I could hear legs gathering around us.
“Kneel, that’s the only way not to humiliate your mistress so kneel, or you’ll get fired.”
Just how powerful was she to make such a threat?
“Just because you are allowed to do things your way, doesn’t mean you get to speak to everyone rudely.”
Another voice sounded, and my eyes caught Larisa walking towards me.
I wanted to smile, knowing everything would be resolved soon.
It was her second time saving me today.
“This isn’t your business Larisa. And I believe I have the right to teach a maid a lesson for being disrespectful.” Unlike her calm composure during dinner, now she glared at Larisa.
“It isn’t my business?” Larisa ticked her tongue. “If it’s that way, I should punish you for speaking down on me now. How about you kneel?” Larisa’s face tightened like she was about to snap.
“What?” Hannah’s face tightened in alarm.
“You heard me, Hannah. Kneel because you spoke rudely to me. You should know not to go against my words.”
“I…, you can’t do that..” Hannah’s voice lowered, and I could see her fingers shaking.
“Hm, we don’t have to do this.” I turned to Larisa. “Please forgive Hannah for her words.” Well, it would only do Svetlana harm if Hannah kneels in front of everyone.
Larisa studied my eyes as if searching for something, then she turned to Hannah. “You shouldn’t forget your place, Hannah. Theo once found something in you, that was long ago, the reason why you still stick to this family is because father finds you useful to our business. And you shouldn’t provoke me, because I have someone waiting to replace you.”
Hannah’s face turned red, a cascade of red flame, she stormed out, and I could hear Svetlana breathe out heavily.
“As for you,” Well, maybe she should have held it, because Larisa turned to her. “You shouldn't cause your madam any accusation. If you want to talk about anyone, do it privately. Today might have been Hannah, tomorrow can be my father or even Theodore, know you won't be spared.” She scolded her, her voice cold.
I could only lick my lips, wondering if I would be next to be called out. I had enabled her anyway.
“I’ll never do it again.” Svetlana bowed, and Larisa turned to me. I guess it was my turn to be schooled.
“I shouldn’t have—”
“Yes, you shouldn’t have let her speak to you that way.” I stared at her face as she sighed in annoyance. “We are basically family now, you aren't on the same level as her. Outsiders will always look at her in high regard, but inside, the power lies in your hands.”
Family? what could Theo have told them for her to address me so close?
“As far as I’m concerned you are the Madam now, even in the mansion, so you should act as one. Theo won’t be happy if you get bullied. He can be really crazy and I promise you don't want to see that side of him.” Her eyes scanned down my body, then back to my eyes. “I’m sure he gave you the device.”
She must be talking about the pen Theo gave me.
“You don't look surprised, so he must have.” Her gaze moved up to my head. She was looking behind me. I forgot to add that Larisa was beautifully tall.
“I’ll leave now.” She doesn't wait for me to say anything before walking out.
“Oh my goodness,” Svetlana's legs seemed to wobble and I reached out to hold her.
“It’s not every day you get to be spoken to by Ms Larisa. I had only met her on the first day of working at the mansion, and it was from a distance. She is terrifying.”
Was she? I asked myself. At least she wasn’t hateful. “We should be careful,” I said to her.
“I’ll, but I need to use the restroom now, I’ll be back.” With a bow, she turned, her step rushing as she passed through people.
She must have really been terrified.
Left alone, I could only look at everyone, while waiting for her to finish up her business.
I couldn't help, but notice the stares in my way, and more than once, I caught glares of some of the women, while the men looked at me with alluring curiosity.
Theo was nowhere to be found.
Nothing was interesting, especially not when I was clothed from head to toe, with no chance to breathe properly.
I looked around and stopped at a door leading to the balcony.
Taking my purse, I walked to the balcony, the emptiness welcoming me, as I stared at the scenery of trees surrounding the building.
Here I was, enjoying this.
Things had changed so much. Now I could lift my head and get the little things I want, even for Josh.
A Secured job. Well, it might request for my head soon.
My phone vibrated, and I brought it out of my purse.
What a perfect time for the devil to come knocking. I thought as I opened the message. I wonder how she always knew where Theo was.
Could there be someone in his team who feeds her his information?
“I knew you were the right person for the job. Theo looked at you earnestly."
My brows creased as I turned around, but I was far away from everyone.
“How was his meeting with his uncle? What did he say?”
What a freak. I typed back. “Nothing out of the usual,”
“Hmm, be careful of the old man and his jealous lover.”
Why does she sound like she knew them personally.
“I will.” I typed back.
I should be more careful with her.
If she had somebody else watching over me, then I needed to be careful.
Silent steps echoed behind me.
I moved to turn, only for a hand to wrap around my waist, and my back met a hard surface. But the alarming font was the body poking at my waist.
“Here you are, I’ve been looking for you, Selena.”
