Chapter 84 Chapter 84
Selena
One more step.
I stood on the flat Mable floor, opposite a door, my hands gripping the gold purse. My heels lifted to raise my confidence as I stood in the black dress.
Surprisingly, that was what Svetlana Picked. No cut, no opening, my arms fully covered.
It was almost like no part of my skin should be shown. And when I had asked her, she said it was Theo’s instruction, and that only made me more confused.
All the dresses I have taken from Theo were exposed, opened to show parts of me. Just what was this meeting about? Why did he want to cover me up?
But that wasn't all, coming home after, there was someone waiting to do my makeup and hair.
I couldn't ask questions as the robotic answer was, “It was ordered by the boss.” They had all said and won’t let me go against it.
Theo was somehow nowhere to be found either.
So here I was in a strange yet beautiful Russian building. Steps from miles away could almost be heard.
Zac has said it was a restaurant, but after walking inside, there was not a single table displayed with people eating.
My guess was that the building was filled with private rooms for important meetings.
A commoner like me could only dream of being let into a place like this.
But what actually crept up on me was that before leaving the house, Svetlana had suddenly brought a pair of earphones, saying Theodore was connected to them,
Placing it in my ears, he said just a few words. “Keep the devices with you, and the pods in your ear, never take them out.”
Just what was this meeting about? Who was I seeing that required all this preparation, like a mission?
I inhaled deeply and took a step closer, only for the door to open widely.
Beautiful.
That was the first thought when my eyes glued down on the woman in a red dress with a cut opening of a slit by her left leg.
Her curves were right in place, her boobs were big enough to be twice mine. And her face? She had passed as an A list model, with the grey eyes that accentuated her look.
She was gorgeous.
“You are finally here.” Her gaze raked all over my body, analyzing, then she grinned. But it was obvious it wasn't of admiration.
“Seeing how covered up you are, you must be Selena.” So much judgment in her gaze that I actually felt small and inferior.
But, I stretched my shoulders. I may be poor and even covered up, but tons of money were spent on the dress.
I stretched my hand, “Yes, I’m Selena Duvain, and seeing how you came from inside, you must be important too. You are…..”
She doesn't take my hand immediately. She smiled. “ I’m sure you have heard of me, I’m Hannah.” She shook my hand.
Now I get why she had so much power. Hannah was gorgeous.
Maybe that’s why Theo still keeps her around?
The thought tingles in my flesh. But I forced myself to smile.
“Of course, I have. After all, there are so many terrifying stories.”
God, I should slap myself. Why did I say that? Outwardly declaring war.
Hannah laughed. Not loud, but clear. “I like you already Selena. Not everyone shoots at first meet. It’s actually advisable not to bear your weapons, lest the opponent seek better. Come in, everyone is waiting.” She doesn't wait, but turns and enters.
Maybe I should have been nice. What if she didn't hold anything against me before now?
Straightening my back, I walked after her.
But nothing prepared me for all the eyes turned at me immediately Hannah moved aside.
Suddenly, I felt my legs wobbling on my heels.
My eyes met Theodore’s then the older man with a striking resemblance to him.
The man sat at the head table, but his gaze sparked viciously as he took me in. Beside him sat an equally older woman. She smiles warmly, opposite the open fire at the head of the table.
“Wow, who do we have here? You didn’t tell me that your woman was this beautiful, Theo. You sure keep things to yourself.” Beside the woman was a man in a black suit, his skin tanned, a tattoo running down his exposed chest.
He winked as his eyes took me in.
My cheeks flushed as I struggled to look at only Theodore who stood up quietly.
of all the gazes, there was one gleaming dangerously at me, till Theodore blocked my view from them.
I looked up at Theo, and my heart skipped at the softened tint of his eyes. Far different from the one he held when I entered.
“You look beautiful .” He took my hand and before I knew it, his head went down, and he kissed it.
Then I’m pulled gently to his side as he walks back to the table, all eyes on me.
It seems this wasn’t a business meeting, but a family meeting.
The lady whom I assume is the older man’s wife smiles. “It’s nice to meet you, Selena. Do you mind if I call you that?” Her voice was so sweet that I didn’t hold back, but broke into one myself.
“Yes please, call me that.”
“She is well spoken.” She commented, turning to look at Hannah.
Hannah flashed her a smile. If Hannah were here, that means she was really valued.
Theodore’s hand rubbed mine, and turned to him. His gaze lingered on me, without saying anything. And I wondered what’s on his mind.
“If you are going to bring her here, then you should introduce her to us.” The older man spoke, his eyes unfriendly.
Why did Theo have to introduce us though? It wasn’t like we were in a relationship.
Theodore turned to me. “This’s my Uncle, Mateo Medvedev, and Dominika.” He pointed to the woman who welcomed me.
“His lover.”
I waited for him to introduce others, but he only held my hand and the room grew silent.
“I’m Boris, and Larisa is my sister. She will be here soon.” Boris introduced with a smile. That explains the empty chair beside me.
I nodded at him with a smile. The air was too cold, and I was sure it was mostly from the older man at the head of the table.
I didn’t know much about him.
“Shouldn’t you at least appreciate the elders for letting you here? It’s not like you are mute,” All eyes turned to me at Hannah's provocative words.
What was wrong with her?
I inhaled, and flashed a smile, “Thanks for—“
“If the elders want her to speak, then I’m sure Father would say that himself without a mouthpiece.”
I turned to the door at the voice. The lady whom I’ll assume was Larisa because of her striking resemblance to Boris walked in, her eyes glaring in Hannah’s direction.
