Chapter 67 Chapter 67
Josh
I stepped down from the cab in front of our apartment.
On reflex, my eyes moved to the black car parked outside, the car gifted by Theodore Mateo.
I had thought Selena would be returning it, only for her to bring it back.
I took a deep breath, inhaling the night air.
Why was he still with Selena after I spoke to him?
I scoffed. He must be thinking little of me.
He wasn't good for Selena, and I needed to take her away from him. Maybe I should start with gathering dust on him, and trust me, Theodore Mateo was filled with thousands.
I entered the building, then the elevator. My brows furrowed inside. Something wasn't right.
I looked around, my brows creasing.
Maybe I was being paranoid as always.
But I wasn't, because when the elevator opened to our apartment, I knew something was wrong.
“Selena,” I murmured, pushing open the door.
It didn't require force as it was already open—another reason for me to panic.
Everything was scattered. Our shoes are all over the entrance. The TV was on, the flowerpot broken on the floor.
Something happened here.
My hands shook as I brought out my phone, dialing Selena’s number.
The house was too quiet, the scene too disturbing for her to be inside.
Yet I called. “Selena?” Still no answer.
What happened here must have been a long time ago.
Selena’s phone rang, again and again, and each ring, brought my heart into doom.
How was I going to find her? There was no CCTV camera in the building, and I had noticed it after we moved in. I couldn't speak to Selena about installing one, knowing you would be against it. But now I regret not doing it.
I rushed to her room, and as expected, it was invaded, her things were strewn to the floor.
I dialled her number again asI stepped out to my room.
Selena couldn't be in her office now, it was past ten, and she wouldn’t stay there so late.
But if she had her phone, I could get her location.
I raised my bed, taking my laptop which I had hidden under the bed, away from her sight, so she would never know what I was up to.
I opened the laptop, sitting on my desk. Thank God I had installed the new chip on her phone last week when she was in the bathroom.
I waited, anxiousness clawing on my skin as I waited for a signal.
The chip was given by the agent to each of us, and this was to help us locate one another in an emergency. But getting home, the need to give it to Selena overtook my reasoning so I installed it on her phone, with the hope of creating another one.
But some parts haven't been found yet.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Continuous beeping sounds drew my focus to the screen.
I typed, drawing the location closer.
It was a private Vicinity, one I have never seen.
Who could be living there?
I stood up. There wasn't enough time to think about everything.
I opened my drawer and took some cash out before heading out to get a cab.
It was going to take time.
I could only hope nothing was wrong with Selena.
I should inform the police or even ask the agent for help. But there was a rule to everything. I didn't know about her situation yet.
“Please drive at the highest speed, my sister is in trouble,” I said, looking at the older man through the rearview mirror.
“Are you sure it's safe to go to this place? I haven't seen this type of location in my experience.” He asked, his face worried.
“It's safe, I’ve been there before, so just increase your speed.”
I turned to the window to avoid more questions. If I needed to involve the agent, then I would do so.
But I hope I don't have to.
The cab stopped and to my surprise, it was a penthouse in the middle of nowhere. That brought relief to me, only to be replaced with something else.
I didn't think about the possibility of Selena being kidnapped by Theodore.
Now that I think of it, I just found a property of his.
I took out all the money from my bag and handed it to the driver. “Hold on to this, and I’ll be out soon. I just need to pick my sister.” He only nodded, his eyes on the money.
I stepped down, my laptop still in my hands, I walked to the door and knocked.
Once I entered, I could find any electronic device to connect a listening tracker with. I could easily report here, but the deals carried out here are currently unknown.
I could only hope Selena was okay.
I pressed the bell on the wall twice and waited.
It was definitely here, the chips said it was here. I took a step back to look at the place and then the door opened.
Theodore Mateo.
Tall and broad in a black robe, his hair wet, dripping on his body.
I clenched my fist on my laptop. It couldn't be what I was thinking.
I took a step closer. He was only a little taller than I, but far broader. I should be intimidated, but I have dwelt with so many crime lords to be scared of him.
“So it's you,” He looked at me like I was nothing, one he could crush easily under his lazy eyes.
But I held my ground. “Yes. And it’s quite surprising that a lord like you has no security around. I guess you aren't afraid of being ambushed.” My face tightened.
He smirked, his hand folding on his chest. “Not everyone is capable of doing that. Just because you got here doesn't mean you are safe.” He looked inside, before turning back to me.
“It's a pity that she tries to protect you with all, but doesn't know how much you endanger yourself.”
I took a step forward and scroned. “Dont lecture me. If evil people like you didn't exist, then I wouldn’t have to pursue you.”
It seemed he already knew my identity. Well, I expected so.
Something flashed in his eyes, but it was gone immediately.
“Get in, and take your sister,” The way he spoke was disdainful, but I didn't say anything.
“Take everything off, your laptop, phone, watch.”
He saw through my plan, as expected of someone like him. I took them off, placing them to the side before entering.
My eyes landed on Selena.
I took in a breath.
Going closer to her, my brows furrowed seeing the little cuts on her arms, my blood boiled.
“What did you do to my sister?” I turned to him, anger resonating from my voice.
He sat, looking at me like I was prey. “Why don't you ask her when she wakes up?”
His lazy smirk, his stupid eyes urged me to punch his face, but I held back.
Selena was fine. I grabbed hold of her, placing her on my back.
“You should avoid my sister. I have said this before and I’ll say it again. Someone dirty like you doesn't deserve her.”
Again, something dark flashed in his eyes, something I could recognise so well. A trigger.
But he smiled instead, “You should watch your back, kid. You might trip.”
