Chapter 60 Chapter 60
Selena
I turned to look at the rest, and expected they looked intimidated. Of course, they were afraid of him.
“What happened?”
My head snapped to Theodore’s direction as he spoke. Anastasia stood beside him.
“I found them fighting in the restroom, all these were initiated by Ms. Selena because she thought Valeria was being bullied, but she wasn't.”
I expected him to turn to me, but instead, he faced Valeria.
“Speak Valeria, were you being bullied and did Selena speak for you?” His tone turned cold.
I could see Valeria trembling as she forced herself to raise her head to look at him.
Why was her reaction that way? It didn't feel like someone who was looking at her boss. She didn't even do wrong yet she seemed so shaken.
“I…I..” She looked at me.
Was she going to deny it again? She didn't have to be afraid.
“You can speak Valera, don't be afraid. They can't do anything to you now.” I whispered to her.
Maybe she lied because she was afraid of Sarah and Janet. What they had done to her if no one was looking.
“I….I…was cornered by Sarah and Janet.” She looked down and I smiled.
“You did well,” I whispered again, turning to Theodore, but he was already staring at me.
Now was the time for me to defend myself from being punished for initiating violence.
I licked my lips and widened my eyes to bring out tears. It just needed to hurt a little.
“I know I’m wrong for hitting Ms. Sarah first, but I couldn't just ignore them. Ms. Valeria has been vulnerable since she had the bruise on her face. Instead of her friends protecting her, they only insulted her and even bullied her in the restroom.” I raised my voice at the last part, staring at Theodore.
I don't know if I was being delusional, but his gaze wasn't the usual lazy one, and the corner of his lips seemed to widen in something like a smile as he looked at me.
I couldn't be seeing things right? Could he be seeing through my lies? He should be angry if he was seeing through me then, not smile.
I swallowed.
“I only wanted to help Ms. Valeria when they both started making jabs at me and not only me but…” My gaze shifted to the floor, to make it more believable.
“How can I dare to repeat what they said about you? I don’t mind being insulted, but as the boss of the company, I thought it was disrespectful so I acted upon my anger and slapped her.” I looked up at him.
“But it only turned unfair when they both ganged up against me, turning me powerless instantly,” I looked at both Janet and Sarah, but they were both bowing.
Was he that terrifying?
“They both pulled my hair, burning my scalp. How could I take the pain?” I stared deep into his eyes.
Being able to act weak, coy has always been something I was good at. In the past, it has saved me from a situation.
Theodore wanted me, and if he indeed wanted me, this was the best time to prove it, because I was weak now, crawling for his protection.
“All these can be confirmed by Ms. Valeria, though I don't know if she can be truthful this time because she is afraid.” I looked down at the floor, waiting for the judgment.
I hope there won’t be any, being under everyone’s gaze was already going to be hell.
“What do you think of the situation, Anastasia?” Again, he sounded too relaxed.
Why was he passing the ball?
“It can't be taken lightly, boss. If let out, others will take this behavior up.”
“Hmm,” he trailed. “One was bullied, but lied against her savior. Two are bullies and the last was trying to help.”
Oh. Now that he said it like that, I do look innocent. I looked at him, his eyes on Anatasta.
“You know who to keep and who to go, Anastasia. They will never change and I don't need people like that.”
What does that mean? I looked at three of them.
Valeria was trembling, she was scared, while Sarah bit her nails anxiously, only Janet seemed to be normal.
“You heard the boss, you should exit the company quietly. Don't worry about your payment for this month, it will be sent to you.”
“What?” The word slipped out before I could control myself.
Theodore stood up, calm like nothing absurd was happening.
They couldn't be getting fired right and why were they not saying anything?
They were being too quiet. Anastasia was the only one with a look of worry.
“Boss, I..—” I open my mouth to speak.
“Come with me,” Theodore said, walking out of the room. With a final look at them, I followed after him.
“Are they really getting fired?” I asked, but he didn't answer.
We walked inside the elevator.
“Are they really getting fired?” I asked again, this time moving to his front. He stared down at me lazily.
“Yes,”
Short, plain, emotionless.
“You can't do that. I know it wasn't right to fight but firing them is unfair.”
Way to go girl. Telling him how to treat his employees. I should be glad I wasn't fired with them. But I wasn't.
“They can be given a sanction, or even punished. It was just a little fight between us so—”
“Did you get hurt?” He asked suddenly.
I did get hurt a little. My scalp was burning. “Just a little, but—”
“Then you got hurt.” The line on his face tightened as he stared at me.
Was he doing this because I got hurt? But it wasn't enough reason to fire them.
“Though I got hurt, I also inflicted pain on them. I even pulled their hair. A sanction will be better. And besides, if…..if I didn't initiate violence then maybe they wouldn't have done the same.” Guilty courses through my veins.
I didn't know it would get here
“Selena,” He took a step towards me, then leaned to my height, His face to mine.
His eyes searched mine, and then they moved to my lips. I swallowed as his hand moved to my forehead, then my cheeks, I shivered, my heart beating faster, crawling in my skin.
“They aren't coming back, Selena. From now on, I will make sure to take away anyone who hurts you.”
Why?
Why do his words send dread down my spine? Something about the way he said it made me unease .
