Chapter 298
Dazed from the slap, Maricela saw Cedrick, grabbed his pant leg to pull herself up, and cried pitifully, “Cedrick… Cedrick, I… I just had good intentions. I was afraid Lucille didn’t know anyone and wanted to introduce her to some friends…”
Before she could finish, Maricela sensed a shadow fall over her. She looked up to see Lucille standing in front of her, with Lucille’s cousin standing right behind her.
For some reason, meeting Robert’s eyes behind his glasses, Maricela shivered as fear crawled up her spine.
She only heard Robert’s low command, “Hit her,” and Lucille swung her hand again, knocking Maricela down once more.
This was one of the rare times Lucille had ever hit someone. Afterward, her palm was numb from the impact.
Because of her bad leg, she could easily fall, so her natural fighting ability was weaker than others. She had never thought she could win a physical fight, so she never even tried.
She did it today, and it felt so damn good!
Maricela had never been humiliated like this by Lucille before. She scrambled up and hid behind Cedrick, tears streaming down her face. “Cedrick, I really just had good intentions. Does Lucille… hate me this much?
Then… I’ll stay far, far away from you… I promise, I won’t say a word to Lucille…”
What a line, “I won’t say a word to Lucille…”
Cedrick closed his eyes and moved Maricela behind him. He smiled faintly at Lucille. “You didn’t tell me you were coming today. Why’d you come all by yourself?”
The sounds of slapping, falling, and screaming had already drawn everyone’s attention. Harlan and David were running over.
“What does me being here have to do with you?
Why should I have to tell you?”
Lucille was telling the truth.

But Cedrick heard it as her just being difficult. After all, he was the only person Lucille knew at
the event.
“Lucille…” Cedrick frowned, looking at the growing crowd. “Whatever it is, can we talk about it back home? Please?
Making a scene here isn’t a good look.”
Robert heard this and chuckled. “My sister has every right to make everyone here look bad.”
Cedrick just thought he was all talk and paid him no mind.
But Maricela was crying behind him. “It was him. He was spouting nonsense, has no manners or etiquette at all. I was just worried he’d lead Lucille to offend someone and cause trouble for your company. So I tried to talk some sense into him and take Lucille away so she wouldn’t get dragged down, and then they… they… Cedrick, I was slapped in front of all these people… I… I don’t want to live anymore…”
Harlan and David arrived, and both frowned at the sight of the scene.
“Hmm?”
After letting out a “hmm,” Zoe frowned as well.
David immediately stood by Zoe’s side and supported her. “Honey, be careful. Protecting the baby is what’s important. Don’t get worked up.”
Zoe huffed.
Harlan glared at David: You’re such a wimp!
“Let it go, Cedrick.”
Harlan looked at Lucille with contempt. “Don’t blow this up, it’s a bad look. Just have Lucille apologize to Mari. And Mari, be the bigger person. For Cedrick’s sake, just let it go.”
“What?”
Robert thought he must be hearing things.
“You want my sister to apologize to her?
Isn’t she afraid it’ll be the death of her‘?”
“And who the hell are you?”

Robert just held Lucille protectively in his arms, smiling faintly. “And who the hell are you?”
He was clearly smiling, and his bespectacled face looked so refined, but there was an inexplicable layer of frost to it.
Harlan was furious and said to Cedrick, “How did this kind of new–money trash get into the party?
Let’s call security and have them thrown out!”
