But Maricela didn’t know. She was still standing there, looking very pleased with herself, speaking as if she were doing Lucille a favor. “Cedrick’s wife has a bad leg, so she rarely comes out and isn’t very social. This banquet is very important for Cedrick’s company. She finally made the effort to come, so let’s all help her along. She doesn’t know any better, so please forgive her if she’s inconsiderate in any way.”
Robert’s voice rang out, cold and eerie. “My sister doesn’t need anyone to ‘help her along,‘ and no one is worthy of saying the word ‘forgive‘!”
Even Zoe and Nicole grew worried at his words. They understood Robert’s anger at his sister being bullied, but in a place like this, not even Cedrick and his people could be so brazen. What chance did a nobody like him have?
He would probably just end

humiliated.
Zoe quickly tried to smooth things over. “Maricela, we’re not on your side. Why don’t you take your people and go have fun? Nicole and I will look after Lucille.”
Nicole even took one of Lucille’s hands, signaling for her not to be afraid.
But Maricela just laughed, a wild and unrestrained laugh. “You?
Who the hell do you
And you.”
think you are?
This “you” was directed specifically at Robert.
“And who the hell do you think you are?
You wouldn’t even be able to get into an event like this if you hadn’t piggybacked on Cedrick’s invitation!
I suggest you keep a low profile. This isn’t a town meeting in your village. Don’t let that country bumpkin attitude of yours show, or security might throw you out!”
“Security will throw me out?”
Robert’s cold gaze pierced through his glasses.

But Maricela was too smug right now to notice anything, just laughing out loud, “What else?
Lucille, really. Do you think just anyone can come to such an important event?
Ever heard of the word ‘class‘?
Being with these low–class people is just embarrassing yourself in front of the powerful!
It’s a slap in the face to Leo!
Does Leo meet with just anybody?”
Then, Maricela noticed the necklace around Lucille’s neck and shook her head, sighing, “And this necklace of yours… since you’re out, you’re representing Cedrick. Wearing a glass necklace like this, with the metal part almost rusting, aren’t you afraid of embarrassing Cedrick?”
Lucille touched her necklace, stunned. A glass necklace?
Rusting metal?
This completely threw her off. She wasn’t the type to shout, “This necklace is worth 300 million!“…
Cedrick was only a few steps away now, his gaze also falling on her necklace.
Maricela was still talking, “But it’s okay, Lucille. I know you don’t understand. You were just an art student, couldn’t do anything but dance. Then you became disabled, and you couldn’t even dance anymore. You stay at home all day, afraid to go out, you don’t know anything, and you can’t help Cedrick at all. I know all this, and I really sympathize with you. Come on, I’ll introduce you to some people.”
As Maricela spoke, she actually reached out to grab Lucille’s hand. With that much force, if she pulled Lucille away, Lucille would definitely stumble and fall.
But Robert was holding her firmly, and Maricela couldn’t budge her at all.
Lucille shook off Maricela’s hand and took two steps to the side.
She walked those two steps steadily, without wobbling at all.
“Huh, her leg is actually fine?”
Someone commented.
Maricela lunged forward and lifted Lucille’s dress, revealing the uneven shoes underneath the hem.

Chapter 297
Lucille’s mind went blank. She felt her hand being grabbed.
It was her cousin.
Her cousin took her hand and swung it hard, slapping Maricela across the face.
The slap was so powerful it sent Maricela sprawling to the ground.
Maricela fell at Cedrick’s feet.
