Chapter 44 The Superstar (6)

What a masterful little actress she is.

When the real Emily first joined, Anna had pulled plenty of tricks to trip her up.

With just a few well-placed words, Anna had stirred Morton’s disgust for Emily, humiliating her in front of everyone.

There was even a time when Anna tampered with Emily’s costume before a performance. The dress slipped in front of the cameras, and only Emily’s quick reflexes saved her from total embarrassment.

Now, it’s time to collect some interest, too.

I paused mid-bite, setting my fork down as I turned to Anna with a cold smile.

"You play the harp better than I do?"

Anna hadn’t even opened her mouth when someone else jumped in to answer for her.

"Of course! Haven’t you ever seen a movie? Anna’s harp playing is a hundred times more beautiful than yours!"

It was true—her harp skills were indeed better than mine.

But she didn’t play it herself.

Anna had gone to great lengths to build her "artistic prodigy" persona.

Anna bit her lower lip. " Master Benjamin taught me my harp skills, so they’re superior to most."

"Then how about we compare right now?" I asked.

"I ......"

Anna hesitated, her eyes darting toward my side for help. It was only then that I realized Morton was sitting beside me.

The man tapped his knuckles lightly against the table, his expression unreadable.

"Emily, have you had enough?"

His voice carried a distinct note of anger.

Damn it, what an idiot.

Is he seriously trying to act like some overbearing CEO in front of me?

I shot him a glare, "What’s the matter, Morton? Want to challenge me? But can you memorize a music sheet if you can’t remember your lines?"

Morton’s expression darkened, "Emily, if you don’t want me to despise you even more, you’d better know when to stop!"

"Emily, why are you forcing me?" Anna chimed in.

I sneered, "Anna, you claim you play better than I do, yet you don’t dare to compete. Or is it that the harp scene in your movie was fake?"

"And you, Morton, being so protective of her. Are you two secretly dating? Do the fans footing your bills know about this?"

Morton grabbed my wrist, his grip tight enough to feel like he might crush my bones.

He stared at me intently, a flicker of smugness in his eyes, "Emily, are you jealous?"

Me: ......

Could someone please launch these two scumbags off the planet?

Suddenly, the pressure on my wrist was gone.

Bensham had appeared beside Morton without me noticing, grabbing the hand, squeezing my wrist, and twisting it 180 degrees.

"If you hurt her hand ...... Who’s going to take care of the dog I found?" Bensham said.
