Chapter 51: Getting Her Off My Mind

Chapter 51: Getting Her Off My Mind

Damien’s POV

I ran my hand over my face, heaving a heavy sigh. My eyes were literally burning, so much that it felt like they were going to fall off soon, but that didn’t stop my fingers from tapping the keyboard over and over again. I really needed to deal with some office work before 12 p.m.

“Yes, Adrian, send them to me… No, I won’t be in the office till next week, probably… I—” the doorbell rang, forcing me to pause my call with Adrian, my secretary.

“Sir, Barrister JR is here…” one of the maids said, running into the study.

“Ohhh… let him in,” I said, and she left the sitting room. I felt my heart sink. I already knew why he was here.

I stood up and dropped my laptop on the main table at the center of the study before heading out to the living room.

“Good morning, Mr. Maddox,” the old man greeted. The words suddenly felt heavy in my throat, and I struggled to bring them out, so I just nodded and collapsed on the sofa.

“The divorce has been finalized, and I’m here with the signed and finished copies from the court.” His deep voice delivered the words like a death sentence.

I tried to find the perfect words to say, but I couldn’t even form any. What the fuck was wrong with me?

“It’s okay, just drop it there, thank you,” was all I could say. My eyes followed the old lawyer as he dropped the documents on the table.

He bowed and left.

I stood up and grabbed the document from the table. I climbed the stairs up, and in minutes I was on the top floor, in my room.

I poured myself a cup of whiskey and threw my head back as I felt the drink burn down my throat.

I stared at the glowing city lights before me, trying to concentrate on them, but my mind kept circling around the document.

I reached for it, and my hands hovered over it for some seconds.

I flipped it open, and there it was—her signature, cold and sharp.

It’s finally over.

I hate to admit it, but those three months were fun. Even though I tried to keep things cold, it’s just funny how she managed to create holes in the wall I built.

I’m glad I finally let her go before things got worse.

I was still going through the documents when the door suddenly flew open.

“What the f—” I jumped up from my chair, ready to slap the hell out of any maid that dared to barge into my room.

“Yo, calm down, dude.” Romel laughed, jumping onto the couch.

I rolled my eyes.

“You didn’t tell me you were coming.”

“And since when did I need permission before visiting my best friend? And what’s that in your hand?”

“It’s nothing,” I muttered, throwing the document onto the table, but Romel would always be Romel.

He got up and snatched the document from the table before I could even lift my arm.

“What’s in this—awwww, what the fuck?” he exclaimed.

“You guys finally divorced? Oh my gosh… I noticed a post about something like that on Instagram, but I ignored it totally,” he said.

“Ohh… it’s out already?” I asked.

“Of course. Who served it?” This time he was sitting on the table.

“I did.”

“What the heck is wrong with you? I thought you loved her.” He turned my chair, making it face him.

“Love? And when did we talk about that?” I asked, almost laughing. Love?

“All those feelings you were having… you don’t need a therapist to tell you that you’re in love,” he yelled, and I couldn’t stop the laughter bubbling in my stomach.

“You better stop being ridiculous.” I rolled my eyes and walked to my closet.

“If you say so… So now, the almighty handsome CEO of Maddox is single again… and he is missing his ex-wife.”

“Missing who?” I frowned.

“Of course you’re not missing her. It’s just a new hobby of yours to start sulking around like a widower.”

I huffed and grabbed a suit.

“Now… where are you going?” he asked.

“None of your business…”

“Oh, come on, you are my business. Now that you’re single, almost all the ladies would want to kidnap you…”

I rolled my eyes again and walked out of the penthouse.

Later that night, I drove around the city with no destination.

Just the hum of the engine and the city rushing by.

I kept the window down even though the night air was cold. My head was pounding, my chest felt heavy, and I couldn’t go back to that empty penthouse.

I stopped at a bar I’d never stepped into before. The air was thick with loud music, smoke, perfume, bodies pressing together like they were trying to erase their lives for a night. I walked to the counter and ordered something strong.

Half an hour passed before she showed up—tall, curvy, red lips, the kind of bitch who knew men were already staring before she even sat down. She slid onto the stool beside me without asking.

“You look like you need company,” she said, her voice smooth.

I glanced at her and caught myself comparing her to Anneliese.

She touched my arm, and I didn’t say anything. She leaned in very close until her perfume was the air I was breathing in.

She stayed with me throughout, laughing at things I didn’t say, and when I finally said, “Let’s go,” she nodded like she’d been waiting.

I took her to my hotel. We went into my room and the door slammed shut, and before the silence could swallow me, I pushed her against it and kissed her hard, like I was punishing both of us. She gasped against my mouth, then laughed, tugging at my shirt. Her lipstick smeared across my lips, but I didn’t stop.

I lifted her off her feet and carried her straight to the bedroom.

Soon, our clothes fell to the floor one by one. It was fast and careless—exactly what I wanted. I didn’t want it slow.

I didn’t want to be gentle. I wanted noise, to hear her scream my name.

I needed distraction.

For a split second, when her hair brushed my face, my chest burned.

Anneliese.

A memory of her scent tried to creep in, and my body stiffened.

No. I didn’t want her in my head anymore.

I forced it out of my head and dropped the bitch on the bed. She pulled me down with her nails digging into my skin.

The mattress groaned under us as I thrust into her pussy, hard, desperate, trying to lose myself.

Her moans echoed in the room, but all I heard was the pounding in my ears. I buried myself deeper, faster, chasing something I couldn’t name.

Her hands gripped me tighter. She said my name like she was worshipping it, but it didn’t mean anything. I fucked her harder, sweat dripping down my back, my muscles burning.

My breath grew rough, my chest heavy.

The world blurred around me, and my body took over. I groaned, and my body became a shuddering mess as I spilled on her tummy, collapsing against her skin.

For a while, there was nothing but breathing—heavy and uneven.

I closed my eyes as my heart rose and fell heavily. I was expecting to see Anneliese again in the darkness, but she was gone. A small smile appeared on my face. Finally, I was able to get her off my mind.
