Chapter - 72: Her Curiosity
(Faedra's POV).
They both looked stunned, almost as if they had been caught doing or saying something wrong. Castor was quick to avert his gaze from mine while Zed followed suit.
“How did you find us?” Castor asked, his face displaying a frown. His tone was cold, but then I didn't get it. What was with the sudden change? He looked sour at the sight of me. I saw how his expression quickly changed from surprise to anger in a matter of seconds. It was almost as if he hated everything about my being, and it did strike some nerves in me.
“You can't keep being this way,” Zed complained as he stood up from the chair.
I quickly pulled his hands behind me, knowing how intimidated Castor might have made him feel. It wouldn't surprise me if that had been all he was doing all along; judging from the look on his face, it wasn't good by any means.
As a matter of fact, I just didn't understand Castor anymore, and I thought Shade was the complicated one; perhaps some of Shade's nastiness had rubbed off on Castor. He stalked me obviously and came all the way here just to ensure that I was safe; he even saved me. And up until they both asked that I leave the room, things were good, so why exactly was I the one who always expected Castor to act up and keep lending a good listening ear? The truth was simply plain: I had gotten tired of whatever it was that had been meant to come from their end.
“How did you find us? All I asked was that,” Castor retorted, seeming angry. I swallowed hard, driving away from my thoughts.
“It's Zed; he had a tracker installed in both of our phones in case something was to happen to any of us,” I responded.
“Good enough, for an excuse... Perhaps it's useful for him to stalk you. How on earth are you expected to save Zed if he gets into trouble? What can you possibly do?” Castor asked irritatingly; he seemed a bit annoyed, but I just didn't get why he was picking on me. Zed's palms brushed over my temples slowly. I shook at that action of his on impulse, swallowing hard while moving a little away from the table that they both sat at previously.
“Stop picking on her for no reason!” Zed snapped before facing in my direction. “Faedra, you came here for a reason; what's wrong?”
“It's Shade; he called me, saying he was unable to reach you both.” Castor's ears perked up on the spot, and hearing Shade's name seemed to have triggered him.
“And?” he asked just on cue, like I had expected. Zed passed him a glare before moving his gaze back towards me.
“He says someone attacked him, backs the pack house, a warrior, but the person seemed to be controlled.”
“Just like the wolf was,” Zed added, and I nodded as they seemed to easily catch up.
“Shade had explained that one thing led to another, but he had no choice other than to have him killed. The warrior is dead, but I find it really odd that the attack was launched almost at the same time both here and there.” I blurted out, and both men nodded in sync as a response to my words.
“It could be possible that both had been attacked, probably by someone else,” Castor added, and a sigh eased off my lips as I thought harder into it.
“It may be possible that both were being controlled, but the distance is so great that the same person seems a bit too far-fetched,” I explained.
"What, then, is your opinion? What do you think about this?” Zed asked, cutting into the silence.
“I think it's done by a group of people, not just one, perhaps three, or four, but it's way too much to be handled by one person,” I explained as the boys nodded again.
“Maybe...” Castor added before trailing off at the end of his sentence.
Why on earth would someone go to such lengths just to kill me? The more I thought about it, the more it made me bitter. I didn't know who it was; I had no idea who I had pissed off or how far I went with it, yet all my life I never bothered anyone and was always sure to stay within my walls. One could call me a pushover; there was no way I would trample on anyone else. I hardly did anything bad, so why was someone going so far just to hunt me down?
And Shade, he probably almost got hurt all thanks to me; I didn't get it; everything worked up my nerve, but so far, I had handled things the best and possible way that I could. But there was someone somewhere out there, twittering at the edge of me getting killed each day.
“Come on, you've done enough; this is meant to be a vacation for you, not all this... You need to get a lot of rest,” Zed added. I nodded, and he was right—rest and sleep—I needed the good of those.
We both turned towards the door, intending to leave, when a scoff came from Castor. Just then, I realized I still had Zed's hand in mine.
“And next time, mind your bloody business!” Castor complained bitterly, the words directed at Zed, who shook his head slowly and placed a smile against his lips.
“Funny how this is coming from you who hardly minds his business, do what you deem fit, I've spoken the truth if it hurts you then so be it,” Zed responded before drawing my hands towards the door.
I knew there had been a conversation between them, not to ask but still curious to know what it was that they had both spoken of.
