Chapter - 63: A Rejection

(Faedra's POV).

My eyes darted around weary of my environment, and although Zed had spoken of someone getting poisoned, he had also wasted no time in grabbing my arm and drawing me out of the situation I had gotten myself into.

Well, of course, I appreciated that bit from him; he had helped me in every way he could and had been nice so far. All thanks to him, or Shade would have snagged off my head at the moment.

My heart still sank in my chest, thinking of the memory of the sight I had walked in on; the look on their faces as they both kissed each other passionately remained engraved in my mind. I couldn't help it, but by far I had much more important things in my mind.

Was Zed merely fooling around? Or had he meant every word that he had spoken? The whole talk about someone getting me poisoned seemed surreal.

I gulped the drink that had been placed before me, yet it tasted sour again. My mind had bitterness etched in. I was working up and down my nerves by every bit, and my senses were strangling the sanity I had left in me.

It wasn't much to think about; in fact, it didn't seem like something I needed to ponder hard and fast about. I only had two things to do, just two options left for me.

I had two people.

One of them was Alpha Liddell and the other was Maximusthose were only the people who could hate me down to the core and not bat an eyelash before poisoning me, wanting to get rid of me since I was no longer of use to them, and I escaped to save myself from the cruel fate that they had planned out for me.

But I was by far away from whatever it was they had been panning for me; I had remained well hidden by Zed, and Shade and Castor had been smart enough to have their scent blocked out as well.

So how could they know about it? Who would possibly want me dead from those two?

I swallowed hard, darting my eyes around. Zed approached the table back from the restroom as we both stood to our feet, and he gestured that we take a little stroll. I heaved a sigh of relief. Everyeyes had been pinned back on being back there. It made me really uncomfortable, truth be told.

“I'm sorry.. I had to go for a walk.” Zed apologized right on the spot, being a goody two shoes like he had been.

“about the issues earlier. Thank you; I had no idea someone had been making an attempt on my life.” I explained, swallowing hard, trying as hard as I could to have no pain held in.

He held my palms to his, stared deep into my orbs, and put a smile on his face.

“You'll be fine; I'll get to the root of the issue; you are safe with me, okay?” he asked, and I pulled him into a big hug feeling instantly relieved; I felt better, no doubt.

I bit down slowly on my lips and pulled away from him, realizing things had seemed a little awkward at the moment. Besides, everyone had their eyes pinned on me, which made me uncomfortable knowing they all passed me with disturbing and disgusted gazes, thinking I had seduced their alpha.

“I have a surprise for you, by the way.” He added in, and I pulled away from him more still, locking my gaze into his.

“I planned out a two-day holiday; it's just for us both. No one else!” he explained and took a long breath, feeling really uneasy.

I had every intention to avoid him, but it seemed like he had everything planned out to counterfeit all I laid out.

“It's just two days; you need some time to relax, just you and me; you'll get some air; no one would be serious enough to have you disturbed.” He explained, and I swallowed hard, feeling a little tense upon hearing the words he had passed out to me.

Finally, we were both by the house, merely feet away from the entrance. I really began to feel terrible; Zed had helped with everything else, and yes, I chose him as a friend, someone I could tell my lies and fears to.

But I didn't feel the same as he did.

“You look a little pale; is there anything wrong?” He asked, and I shook my head, still having my eyes lifted away from him.

“Oh, there's no rush at all; you still have today to prepare for the trip late tomorrow night, so you don't need to have yourself bothered, okay?" He asked again, urging me to ask, trying as hard as a hex hole to persuade me, but it made me even more.

“Zed, I think I have to clear this out now.” I explained to her, reading off my words a bit,

He had his gaze burned into mine while I bit on my lip and played with my fingertips in a desperate attempt to have his attention drawn to something else entirely.

I took several slow steps away from him. Panic struck me a little, and it worked my nerves a bit. I could see worry in his gaze.

“I'm not sure about how I feel about Zed." I started off. It took a little bit of pause, and he said nothing while still glancing at me.

“I'm sorry about all of this... I really do think you are a great guy; you are nice, calm, and kind, but I can't proceed with any of these plans yet.” I explained to him, and he nodded slowly. He tucked his palms into his pocket.

“Is that a rejection?” he asked. I sensed the pain in his words.

“Something like that," I added before picking up my pace and heading toward the room.
