Chapter - 61: Her Second-Chance Mate.
(Faedra's POV).
Zed pulled me into a warm and heartwarming embrace as soon as they all walked away from the scene. My heart skipped a beat on this sudden yet kind gesture of his. Tears streaked from my eyes continuously.
I had cried way more these past few days than I had done in my entire year. I was cursed by the fate assigned to me by the moon goddess. I was certain of it, but it became worse when I met with Castor and Shade. Was it possible that they both switched from one personality as soon and as fast as they could? I passed out because of their negligence, and all they both did was stare as well as pass the blame around.
Castor was no different, having his silence held. Why was it that they derived way too much in confusing me? I had barely done a single thing; all I did was hold on desperately to the fate that had been assigned to me, and all of a sudden it became one of the worst things that could ever happen to me.
“Seeing you, this way hurts me, Faedra, please. Take it down a notch. I don't appreciate you going through all of this; it breaks me apart. Crying as much as this would harm the plus as well.” Zed spoke up in an attempt to persuade me, but I wasn't feeling well, and I couldn't lie about it.
I leaned my head against his arms, sniffing hard.
“I do not wish to feel this way too; I can't control it, Zed. It's hard to admit, but you seem to be the only one I can admit to; I think I'm having feelings for both of them.” I broke it off, heaving the heavy burden on my chest. I lifted my gaze to match in his direction; he seemed a little taken aback by my confession.
“Since when did this begin, Faedra, are you sure about it? And that is not merely your emotions playing tricks on you." Zed asked once more, but I soon raised my head in response. I was certain. I knew what I felt.
“I thought of that too, but it's been long; none of it is changing; I don't know what to do anymore; I need your help. I might lose my sanity if something is not done and I can not keep living like this; it's plain torture. At first, I loathed them; I could do well and fine without them, but it had been a lie. Each word that eases hurts me. Their gestures test me apart. I need help. I want to stop feeling this way. I explained, and pain coursed through my veins with each word I said. It wasn't changing anything, but certainly, it felt better to have someone I could discuss my problems and pains with.
“Could it be that the bond was still lingering? I mean, they rejected me a long time ago, but I just can't understand why I'm still feeling this way; it isn't making sense to me; it should be gone; each bit of those feelings, they were pesky, and I'm the only one who's hurt the most.”
I exchanged glances with Zed once more, slightly pulling away from him. Everything was confusing, but on earth was I saying things such as this to him?
Why was I telling him everything so easily? He did pay attention to me and that also made me feel uneasy, even when all I needed was a listening ear.
“I'm sorry, I shouldn't be telling you all of these.” I retorted before pulling away from him, but he said nothing. A smile on his face as he reached towards me. He buried his face into my hair for a moment, and we remained in the position while I tensed up a little. Things were really weird at the moment, but it would make me feel more awkward if I pushed him off. He pulled away from me and slowly sat right by my side at the edge of the bed.
“I'm sorry, I should have explained it all to your earlier Faedra but they are no longer your mate; I am; I'm your second chance mate.” He explained, and I pushed him off, startled by his declaration, while my eyes bore directly into his.
“I know I should have explained it all to you. I just wish to see you hurt. I am so sorry. I should have told you soon.” He added while I stared blankly at him, void of emotions and uncertain how to react to it.
“But… but… I don't feel anything about the mate bond; I can't feel it.” I explained it to him, still tuned into his revelation.
“I can feel it; I've felt it for a long time now, the moment I met you; I knew it on the spot, Faedra; I've been dying way out of my usual character ever since I met you; why do you think I do all these things without blinking an eye? I'm a ruthless Alpha Faedra, but because of you, things have changed. I usually am not as calm and nice as this; with anyone else.” Zed explained more.
The more the words eased off his lips, the more I was plunged into more words of desperation. It was confusing.
I should at least feel the bond; I felt it with Castor and Shade, why was this different?
“You probably can't feel it because of the pregnancy; the pups tied you to Castor and Shade, giving you their gravity, but I know you'll feel it soon enough after the delivery. I promise you, I will treat you better; I will never disrespect or hurl insults at you; I'll do all I can within my power to protect you.” Zed explained again.
It said nothing; I felt sore, my throat ran dry, and I couldn't wrap my head around the thought of being his mate.
“Do you need some time to think about it?” he asked, and I nodded slowly.
“I don't think I have to think about anything at all; what I need most now is rest. Please leave, Zed; I'd like to be on my own.” I exclaimed, the words leaving my lips slowly.
He bore a long and lasting glance at me slowly an walked out of the room reluctantly while my eyes trailed after him until he was finally out the door and I was left with myself.
I ran my hands into my hair before finally placing my hands over my temples. How was it possible? Zed was my second chance mate?
