Chapter 90 - Their Cursed

When the twins were satisfied that I was alright, they walked with me to their mother’s office before heading to our room to get cleaned up. I kissed them both goodbye, feeling melancholy as they disappeared down the hall.

I knocked on Nicole’s door, but there was no response. I tried one more time and was still met with silence. I pulled out my phone and decided to check on Pip this morning. I hoped she was okay after everything that happened yesterday. From what I read so far about mate bonds and rejection, it was physically and emotionally painful. When I asked the twins if we should check on her, they assured me that Ryker took her home and we should give her time.

I dialed her number, and she picked up after a few rings. “Hey Rem!” she said in a far cheerier voice than I expected.

“Hey, Pip. You sound good,” I told her.

“I am. I actually feel terrific,” she confessed.

“I am so glad to hear that. I was a little worried yesterday.”

“What are you doing today? If you’re calling me, you aren’t wrapped up in a Carlisle sandwich.” She giggled at her own joke. I pursed my lips.

“Don’t be so crude,” I scolded.

“It’s just a joke. It's sweet that they won’t take their hands off you,” she said.

“I don’t know what I am doing. I went to find Nicole, and she doesn’t seem to be around. The twins and Gentry didn’t say much either.”

“Why don’t we go to the movies? I can come to pick you up,” she offered.

“Uh, sure. I guess,” I said. I was happy to spend time with Pip, but I couldn’t say I wasn’t disappointed in only seeing Calder and Cullen for a few minutes today. “Let me check with the twins.”

“I’ll come over to the packhouse. See you in ten,” she chirped before hanging up the phone.

I went to our room, searching for my mates. When I walked in, Cullen was already gone, and Calder was dressing. He looked up at me with a small smile as I came into the room. “Hey, baby,” he greeted me.

“Hi,” I replied.

“Was my mom not around?” I shook my head.

“I called Pip,” I told him.

“Did she answer?” he asked. I nodded.

“Yea, she is actually in a really good mood today,” I told him.

“That’s surprising. But either way, I am glad she is feeling better.”

“She asked if I want to go to the movies with her.”

“Do you?”

“Sure,” I said. He smiled at me.

“Cullen and I have a lot of things to take care of today. If my mom isn’t around for Luna training, you can go with Pip. We won’t be particularly good company,” he said, coming over to me now. He brought his hand to cup my face and looked down at me.

“Okay,” I said. I could get lost in the depths of those purple eyes.

“I’m sorry we missed breakfast,” he said softly.

“It’s okay,” I told him. I didn’t feel like making a joke about it right now. I had gotten so used to being with them since all of this started that I didn’t enjoy waking up alone. It reminded me of the same shallowness that I didn’t realize I had felt for all those years on my own.

“We won’t make a habit of it,” he tried to assure me. I forced a smile on my lips.

“I understand. It’s okay,” I told him again. A muffled ringing came from his pocket. His shoulders dropped with a sigh as he reached for his cellphone.

“I’ve got to go, baby. Be good with Pip, and we’ll see you at dinner,” he said, leaning forward and giving me a chaste kiss. He answered his phone and was striding from the room not a moment later.

Gentry

I dragged myself out of the shower and to my dresser to get some clothes. Training sucked. It was getting worse every day. I was getting slower, and my movements were becoming sloppy, but I couldn’t find the energy or motivation to do anything about it. I needed Sam.

Sam.

I love her name on my tongue. Like my mouth was made to hold it. Even with the possibility of finding her, I was still finding it hard to make myself complete even the most basic of tasks. The food Remi brought me last night went un-eaten, and I didn’t bother even making the charade of grabbing a late breakfast after training. Showering was even a task I was losing interest in. I just wanted my mate in my arms.

One thing I could feel better about was Pip. Last I had heard from her, she and Zeus were talking it out. I hated the guy, but if that was who the Moon Goddess thought would be perfect for my sister, then I had to let things happen. Hopefully, after everything that had happened so far, she wasn’t just going to run away to Serenity Moon without at least telling me goodbye.

When I finally managed to pull my clothes on, I rubbed my hair with the towel and tossed it to the far side of my room, not bothering to hang it up. I pushed my fingers through my hair and left the room, not caring to check the mirror. I dragged myself up towards Cullen’s office, running into Calder on the way.

“Hey,” he said quickly, seeming a little distracted. I had taken my time getting showered and changed, half-expecting them to be squirreled away with Remi after they both showed up to training and skipped breakfast. They were usually so careful about spending as much time with her as possible.

“What’s up?” I asked.

“Issues with the donations to the outreach clinic that I need to get sorted out,” he murmured quickly. He strode past me and went right to his office. I continued past his office and went to Cullen’s. I knocked on the door before coming in. Cullen was immersed in something on his desk. He didn’t even look up at my entry. I sat down across from him and waited.

“Yes?” he finally acknowledged me.

“What are we doing about Sam?” I asked. He sighed and looked up at me.

“We will go tonight to see if we can find her,” he said dismissively. “Her note only gave us so much to go on.”

“I know…”

“Have you checked on Pip?”

“What do you mean? She and Zeus were working things out, right?” He looked up at me. Shock was apparent on his face.

“She rejected him…” he said slowly.

“What?” I shouted, jumping up. How had I been so absorbed in my own issues I didn’t know she rejected her mate. Cullen nodded.

“She found out about his threats to Remi, and she rejected him on the spot. I had her taken home yesterday. I thought your parents would tell you,” he said.

“No! No one told me!” I exclaimed. “What threats did that rat make towards Remi?”

Cullen sighed. “He insinuated that he would sleep with her to get back at Calder and me,” he explained. “We kept Remi away from him all weekend, but she insisted we not tell Pip. She wanted Pip to make her own decisions outside our influence.” A low growl came from my chest. I would rip that mutt trash to shreds.

Cullen watched me carefully for a moment as my mind raced. “We had him escorted from the territory. I imagine he is licking his wounds in his territory at the moment.”

“I got to go,” I said before storming from the room. I was furious with that slime ball and myself. My mother called last night, but I let it go to voicemail, not having the energy to be her perfect son at the time. I was also frustrated with Remi. Her heart was in the right place, but she should have told my sister immediately.

I stormed downstairs but was stopped in my tracks when I saw both girls standing by the front door. My sister looked happy. Her attention turned to me, and she smiled brightly. “Hey Gen!” she called.

I walked over to them, slower now. Why was Pip standing her seemingly fine if she rejected her mate yesterday? “Hey,” I greeted her.

“Rem and I are going to the movies. You busy, or you want to join?” she asked.

“I’m sorry, what?” I asked, completely confused. I looked between the two. Pip was relaxed and her usual upbeat self. Remi looked a bit sad.

“Movies. Today. Remi and I,” she said, motioning between them. “Do you want to come with us? The twins are busy.”

“Pip, you just rejected your mate?” I said stupidly.

“So? That was yesterday,” she shrugged. I just looked at my sister like she was crazy. She rejected her mate yesterday, and today she is going to the movies with Remi. I brought my hands to my face and shook my head.

“Seriously, Gen, I am cool. I feel much better today, and I just want to move on.”

I looked her over one more time. She looked normal. “Alright. If you’re okay.”

“I am,” she said, smiling broadly. She surprised me by wrapping her arms around my middle and squeezing me tight. “Thanks, big brother.”

I patted the top of her head. “Any time, sis.”
