‘Where are you?’ I ask my father through the mind link, stepping out of his office.

‘On your mother’s floor. The second living room, east side.’

Throwing my head back, I groan.

What is he even scheming?

He isn’t using me to check on Mom, is he?

‘He definitely is,’ Grim laughs in my mind, and I shake my head.

Fine for me.

‘Alright. I’m on my way,’ I sigh, clenching my eyes closed as he cuts the mind link with a bang.

And it really looks like he closed it hastily because he is impatient for me to check on my mother.

But who could ever blame him?

I would do the same if I were separated from Emma.

Climbing the stairs, I keep my gaze straight forward, ignoring the royal guards standing at the sides of the hallways.

I am slightly confused because I thought that the few baby faces were the only ones they had sent, but there seem to have been more hiding from us.

What the fuck is going on?

‘That’s impossible. I killed them,’ Moros growls, and I walk faster, wanting to reach my parents as quickly as possible.

‘They are growing like mushrooms,’ I comment, making him chuckle.

‘Let us cook a delicious stew.’ His joke actually gets me to laugh out loud, and I shake my head, causing the soldiers of the royal army to look at me as if I were mental.

Clearing my throat, I roll back my shoulders before I knock and wait for someone to invite me in.

“Come in,” I hear my mother’s voice muffled by the massive wooden door.

Entering the living room, I smile at seeing my mother sitting in a cozy seat, with Logan leaning against her legs. “Is everything alright?”

“I am the one who should ask you that,” I exhale, pulling a chair through the room to sit next to them. “Father wanted me to come back and meet him. But I guess he isn’t here?”

My mother shakes her head while Logan pushes out a dry laugh, his eyes looking incredibly tired.

I guess that he hasn’t slept in ages due to all the mess that is going on, and being close to mom is the only thing that gives him a sensation of being able to finally find some rest.

“Where is Emma?” My mother asks, squirming in her seat as she turns towards me. “Is she okay?”

“Yeah, she is totally fine. I left her at Aunty Ramona’s house,” I explain, and she gasps.

My father lifts his head, groaning as she startled him by moving again. “What did you do?”

“Nothing,” I chuckle, and he sighs, putting his head back in her lap while she starts caressing his hair. “I just thought she would be safer at her house, and definitely more comfortable, than here with all those soldiers who keep popping up everywhere. I am honestly very worried because her stress levels must be up, and she isn’t telling me. This isn’t good for her and not at all for our pup.”

My dad rubs his eyes, humming exhausted. “I’m having a déjà vu.”

My mother pulls at his hair, gently, while grimacing, and he looks up, laughing, and automatically makes a smile appear on her lips. “You were the ones with the high stress levels. I was doing perfectly fine, even with all the supplements.”

He cracks up, and her smile grows as she turns her head back to me. “Maybe it would be better to keep her with us while you go to the Royal Pack with your brother. It would help us to keep her and the pup safe.”

“Hm, I don’t know. I prefer her to be with me, so that I can protect her.” I tilt my head to the right, my thoughts drifting off. “And I doubt that she would be happy about us leaving her here.”

My father pinches my mother's skirt to pull at it playfully. “You should know better. We were never able to make you sit still.”

“But there were enough of you to protect me, so why would I choose to stay back to just drink tea?” she counters, and he grins, closing his eyes.

“I will check on her tomorrow and take a few blood samples to do a proper screening,” my mother offers, running her fingers over my dad’s head while he falls asleep.

“Thank you, Mom,” I breathe out in relief, driving my hand through my hair as I start feeling sleepy as well.

‘There is something in the air,’ Grim murmurs, and I feel like I am losing connection to both of my spiritual creatures. ‘I guess Moros is out. I can’t reach him.’

I continue observing my parents, my eyelids getting more difficult to be kept open, my wolf’s voice fading into the background, while I feel my body heavier. Staring into the void, my vision unfocuses on my surroundings, making them look surreal.

GET UP AND LEAVE.

Skyrocketing on my feet, I shudder as the kind voice I keep hearing in my head suddenly screams at me, pulling me out of my drowsiness.

My parents look at me with questioning faces, Logan lifting a brow. “Everything alright?”

“Uh-huh,” I answer, not particularly convinced. “I need to go and see dad now, or he will have my head.”

My mom nods, forcing up another smile before she looks back down at her mate, who fell asleep in her lap, caressing him.

I blink repeatedly, the fog that just filled the room lifting and clearing the uncomfortable feeling as my field of vision becomes clearer.

Stop wasting time!

Get out of there.

The usually kind voice seems a bit calmer as it barks at me again, but it still hasn’t regained its honeyed tone.

“I will be going now,” I say, my voice echoing from the wall, and I’m not quite sure that they really perceive any of my words.

Taking several steps backwards, I inhale a deep breath before holding it and turning around to leave the room.

As soon as I am out of it, I push out a long exhale, and I close my eyes, starting to fill my lungs with a new load of fresh air. My throat hurts, my chest feels like it is about to burst, but I can’t stop until I think that whatever toxin entered my body is out of it.

Opening my eyes slowly, my vision shakes before it focuses on my father standing in front of me with crossed arms and a sceptical expression.

“What is wrong with you?”

I chuckle, wetting my lips with my tongue. “Hey, Dad.”
