Chapter 22 WE SLEPT TOGETHER.
Chapter 22 WE SLEPT TOGETHER.
Isabel’s POV.
We were standing in Damien’s room and I didn’t know a moment could be so wrong , yet feel so right.
Damien moved, but it wasn't a sudden action; it was a slow, deliberate tilt of his head, a closing of the distance that had been agonizingly small for what felt like an eternity.
His lips met mine, and the world—which moments ago had been a too much collapsed into a single, focused point. His lips was all I could feel—everything I wanted to fee.
I tasted the faint, lingering spice of the tea he’d been drinking and something uniquely him: warm, grounding, and intoxicating.
My hands, almost of their own accord, found their way to his chest, gripping the fine cotton of his shirt. Beneath the fabric, I felt the steady rhythm of his heart, a rhythm that began to speed up, mirroring the frantic pulse now thrumming beneath my own skin. Everything I had been no longer existed. All that was left was Isabel, alive and wanting more
He pulled back just enough, gis breath warm against my cheek. His eyes, usually guarded were dark now, soft with a vulnerability I had rarely seen. That unguarded look—that raw, beautiful trust—was what truly undid me. It was more powerful than any physical touch.
“Isabel,” he murmured, the single word a low, vibration that seemed to travel directly through my bones and settled in my core. It was a question, a confession and a warning all in one.
I didn't need words. I traced the line of his jaw with my thumb, feeling the faint stubble, the firm curve of his chin. It was a moment of choice, where we both acknowledged the shift in our relationship. We were crossing a threshold, and there was no turning back.
When he kissed me again, it was softer, a slow, mesmerizing exploration It stripped away the titles, and the roles we played for the world. In this small, space, we were just two people, finally allowing ourselves to be seen, truly seen, by the other.
He began to unbutton my shirt, his fingers occasionally brushing against my skin, sending an electric shiver through me. The small, careful movements were surprisingly thrilling. Each button released was a step further into the present, further away from the past and the future. When the fabric finally parted, revealing the lace beneath, I felt a rush of self-consciousness, instantly tempered by the sincerity in his gaze. He looked at me as if I were a secret he had been waiting his whole life to discover.
I returned the gesture, my hands clumsy as I worked the buttons of his shirt. He was broad, muscled but his movements were all tenderness. The scent of him—clean, slightly woodsy, flooded my senses. The touch of his bare skin against mine was an intense shock, instantly warming me.
The room began to dissolve. The furniture, the shadows in the corner, the world outside his room door.—none of it mattered. The only reality was the heat where our bodies connected, the soft sounds of our breathing, and the sensation of his hands moving over the curve of my back.
I closed my eyes, focusing on the sensory overload. The texture of his hair against my palm, the sound of fabric rustling as we moved, the deep, vibrating hum of pleasure starting low in my chest and radiating outwards. It was overwhelming, a beautiful, necessary intensity that demanded my full attention.
We moved. Every touch was an answer to a question I hadn’t known I was asking. Every sustained gaze was a promise. I felt my reservations dissolving, replaced by a reckless, exhilarating trust. I had never felt so vulnerable, yet so fiercely protected.
His lips trailed down my neck, his breath leaving a searing path against my skin. I arched back slightly, allowing him access, allowing myself to be utterly consumed by the sensation. I felt a laugh catch in my throat, a giddy, triumphant sound of release. For the first time in months, perhaps years, I wasn't carrying the weight of my family downfall, the weight of my mother’s expectations. I was simply Isabel, driven by instinct and desire.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer, needing to feel his body against mine. His body was a language I wanted to learn.
The intensity became blinding, everything focused on the place where he was touching me. It was a release of all the pent-up tension, the frustrations, the silent battles we had fought for months. It was a cleansing, a rebirth. When the wave finally crashed, it left me breathless, clinging to him, my body tingling and heavy with the aftermath of intoxicating feeling.
I buried my face in his shoulder, inhaling deeply, feeling the sweat and the warmth of his skin. We remained together for a long time, the silence now a comfortable, shared space.
I could hear his heartbeat slowing, returning to that normal pace. I felt utterly drained, yet so satisfied. This moment, this connection, felt like the most real thing that had ever happened to me.
I smiled faintly, and shifted, ready to whisper something foolishly honest, something about how this changed everything, when I heard a sound.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
It was insistent and jarringly loud.
Damien froze. I stiffened, my eyes flying open, the blood draining from my face.
Damien's jaw tightened, his gaze darting toward the closed door of the room. He pulled back slightly, regret practically replacing the softness in his eyes.
Another knock, louder this time, accompanied by a voice.
“Damien? Damien, I know you’re in there. Open the door. I need to speak with you.”
It was Adrian.
