Chapter 90 First Bonds

Chapter 90 First Bonds

POV: Elara (Age 18 - Day After Birthday)
The first wolves come for tri-bond training the morning after our declaration.
Fifteen volunteers. Mix of Alphas and omegas. Mix of young and old. Mix of wolves struggling with power and wolves just wanting support.
I'm teaching with Professor Thane. With Mom. With Kael and Marcus because they're living proof tri-bonds work.
"Bond formation requires vulnerability," I tell the assembled wolves. "Requires showing your worst. Requires trusting people with parts of yourself you usually hide. That's terrifying. That's uncomfortable. That's necessary."
Through my tri-bond I feel Kael's support. Feel him remembering our bond formation. Feel him recognizing I'm teaching from experience rather than just theory.
A young Alpha stands. Barely sixteen. Struggling with dominance based on her scent. "How do we know who to bond with? How do we choose? How do we find compatible wolves?"
"You feel it," I tell her. "Feel recognition. Feel compatibility. Feel understanding that this person could anchor you. Could call you back when power overwhelms. Could see you completely and stay anyway. You feel it and you choose to trust that feeling."
"But what if we're wrong?" another wolf asks. Omega. Older. Clearly carrying trauma. "What if we choose wrong people? What if bonds form with incompatible wolves? What if we're stuck permanently with bad choice?"
Mom answers. "We don't know if chosen bonds are permanent like mate bonds. We don't know if they're breakable with enough will. We're discovering rules as we go. But I'd rather have potentially permanent bond with imperfect match than no bond at all. I'd rather risk connection than guarantee isolation."
Through my tri-bond I feel Marcus's analytical mind engaging. Feel him processing that Mom admitted uncertainty. Feel him respecting honesty over false certainty.
Professor Thane sets up first exercise. "Partner formation. Find two wolves you feel compatible with. Not perfectly compatible. Not mate-level connection. Just compatible enough. Just trusting enough. Just willing to try."
The fifteen wolves start circulating. Assessing each other. Feeling for compatibility. Trying to find potential bond-mates.
Through my tri-bond I feel Kael watching with interest. Feel Marcus analyzing social dynamics. Feel both of them learning from observation.
Three wolves find each other. Young Alpha. Older omega. Mid-age wolf who doesn't fit either category clearly. Three different wolves finding compatibility despite differences.
"We want to try," the Alpha says. "Want to form tri-bond. Want to see if it works for us."
Professor Thane sets up protected space. Creates safety measures. Establishes monitoring. Everything we learned from previous experiments.
"Remember," I tell the three volunteers. "Bonds require vulnerability. Require showing worst. Require trusting each other with parts you hide. Start there. Start with truth. See if bonds respond."
The three wolves face each other. Nervous. Uncertain. Committed.
The Alpha speaks first. "I hurt people when I lose control. Dominance overwhelms me. I become violent. Dangerous. I need anchors who can call me back before I damage someone permanently."
The omega continues. "I've been hurt by Alphas. Carry trauma. Flinch from dominance. But I need to learn to trust strong wolves again. Need to believe not all dominance is threat. Need anchors who can show me strength without violence."
The mid-age wolf finishes. "I don't fit categories. Not fully Alpha. Not fully omega. Struggle with identity. Need anchors who accept ambiguity. Who let me be undefined. Who don't force me into boxes that don't fit."
The honesty is raw. Real. Exactly what bonds need.
Silver threads form. Thin. Fragile. Connecting three vulnerable wolves who chose each other despite fear.
The bonds hold.
"It's working," Professor Thane breathes. "Second successful tri-bond formation without Oracle involvement. Second proof that democratization works. This is—this is actually transforming society."
Through my tri-bond I feel Kael's awe. Feel Marcus's satisfaction. Feel both of them witnessing transformation happen in real-time.
The newly bonded wolves are processing. Feeling connections. Experiencing each other through bonds. Learning to manage intimacy they're not prepared for.
"It's overwhelming," the Alpha says. "Feeling them constantly. Feeling their emotions. Feeling everything they feel. How do you manage this?"
"Practice," I tell her. "Shielding. Filtering. Building separation while maintaining connection. It takes time. It takes effort. It takes commitment to making bonds bearable instead of just invasive."
We spend next hour teaching the new bond-mates. Teaching shielding techniques. Teaching how to differentiate between their emotions and bond-mates' emotions. Teaching how to create privacy while staying connected.
By noon they're managing. Not perfectly. But functionally. Bonds settling from overwhelming to bearable.
"Tomorrow you come back," Professor Thane tells them. "We monitor. We teach. We support. We make sure bonds stabilize properly. This is ongoing process. Not single event."
The newly bonded wolves leave. Carrying connections they formed this morning. Carrying transformation they participated in. Carrying proof that democratization works.
Through my tri-bond I feel Kael's pride. "We did this. We proved transformation works. We taught wolves to form bonds. We actually changed society."
"We started changing society," Marcus corrects. "One tri-bond doesn't equal transformation. We need hundreds. Thousands. We need sustained effort over years. Today was beginning. Not completion."
He's right. One successful tri-bond is proof of concept. Transformation requires scale. Requires sustained implementation. Requires years of teaching instead of single morning.
But we started. We proved it works. We began transformation.
Rafe finds me after training session. "How'd it go?"
"Three wolves formed tri-bond successfully," I tell him. "Second proven case. Transformation is working. Actually working."
Through our twin bond I feel his satisfaction. "Good. Because I'm forming mate bond tonight. With Vera. After dinner. Before I lose courage."
Through the bond I feel his anxiety. Feel him terrified. Feel him committed anyway.
"You asked her?" I ask.
"She asked me," Rafe corrects. "Twenty-four hours after prophecy like we agreed. She asked. I said yes. Tonight we form bonds. Tonight I get anchors same way you did."
Through the twin bond I feel his uncertainty about calling single mate an "anchor." Feel him recognizing mate bonds work differently than tri-bonds. Feel him hoping it's enough anyway.
"You don't need tri-bond," I tell him. "You need Vera. One good mate. One solid connection. One person who sees you completely. That's different from what I need. But equally valid."
Through the bond I feel his gratitude. Feel him recognizing I'm validating his choice. Feel him appreciating support.
"Will you be there?" he asks. "When I form mate bond? Will you witness?"
"Of course," I tell him. "You're my twin. You watched me bond to Kael and Marcus. I'll watch you bond to Vera. That's what twins do."

That evening we gather. Family. Friends. Witnesses to Rafe forming mate bond.
Vera is nervous. Trying to hide it. Failing. Her omega instincts making her uncertain around so many dominant wolves.
Rafe is terrified. Not hiding it. Just being honest about fear while choosing to proceed anyway.
Mom sets up space. Creates sanctity. Makes moment special instead of just technical.
"Mate bonds form differently than tri-bonds," she explains. "More instinctive. Less vulnerable. Based on recognition rather than chosen vulnerability. But equally real. Equally permanent. Equally significant."
Rafe and Vera face each other. Two wolves choosing connection. Two people deciding to bond despite fear.
"I choose you," Rafe says. "Choose to see you completely. Choose to accept omega strength alongside Alpha dominance. Choose to build relationship that honors who you are instead of forcing you into categories that don't fit."
"I choose you," Vera responds. "Choose to trust Oracle heir who doesn't act like Oracle. Choose to believe in gentle strength. Choose to bond with wolf who sees me as person instead of just omega."
The mate bond forms. Silver thread connecting them. Singular. Strong. Different from tri-bond but equally real.
Through the twin bond I feel Rafe's overwhelming emotion. Feel him experiencing mate bond. Feel him connecting to Vera in ways that aren't identical to my tri-bond but are equally significant.
The bond holds. Settles. Becomes permanent connection between two wolves who chose each other.
Vera is crying. "I can feel you. Feel your emotions. Feel your thoughts partially. Feel you constantly. Is this—is this normal?"
"Yes," Mom says gently. "That's mate bond. That's normal. That's what connection means. It settles. It becomes bearable. It becomes good eventually. Give it time."
Through my tri-bond I feel Kael remembering our formation. Feel him recognizing that all new bonds are overwhelming. Feel him understanding that Rafe is experiencing similar adjustment.
The evening continues. Celebration. Support. Family witnessing transformation happen personally.
By night's end, Rafe and Vera are bonded. Learning each other. Building relationship around connection that formed today.
Through the twin bond I feel Rafe's complicated emotions. Joy. Fear. Recognition that he's permanently connected now. Recognition that he chose this. Recognition that it's real.
How does it feel? I ask through our connection.
Overwhelming, he sends back. Invasive. Constant. Exactly like you described your tri-bond. But also—right. Like this was supposed to happen. Like Vera is exactly who I need even though I barely know her.
Through our bond I feel his certainty mixed with uncertainty. Feel him trusting the connection while terrified of it. Feel him being brave enough for vulnerability bonds require.
We're both bonded now, I send. Both connected to people we barely know. Both building relationships around permanent connections. Both figuring out what this means.
Through the bond I feel Rafe's recognition. At least we're being stupid together. At least we're both navigating new bonds simultaneously. At least we're twins going through this.
Always twins, I confirm. New bonds don't change that. Don't diminish twin connection. Just add to it.
Through our bond I feel his relief. Feel him needing that reassurance. Feel him wanting twin bond to remain primary even while building mate bond.
The day ends. First successful tri-bond taught. Rafe's mate bond formed. Transformation continuing beyond just declaration.
We're eighteen years old. We fulfilled prophecy. We declared transformation. We began implementation.
Now we're building it. One bond at a time. One connection at a time. One transformation at a time.
Together. Always together. Even when we're building separate bonds. Even when we're connecting to different people. Even when our paths diverge.
Twin bond remains. Constant. Primary. Foundational.
Everything else builds on that.
