Chapter 59

Chapter 59
Isolde

I felt the heat of his desire pressing close, a testament to his longing. He wasn't commanding; he was pleading, his usual alpha poise giving way to a raw vulnerability that weakened my resolve.

"Every night without you, I've lain awake, haunted by your touch, your scent. It's been pure torment. Let me have this—let me show you the depth of my missing you."

I pressed against his chest feebly, my breaths coming in ragged bursts. "Dorian, the rules—we agreed. No... not until—"

"I know," he cut in, his lips tracing a fiery trail along my neck, his teeth grazing just enough to send tremors through me. "But I can't hold back any longer. Isolde, please. I've been burning for you. Every hour felt like forever. Your scent lingering on my sheets, your voice echoing in my dreams—it's driven me to madness."

His words were a desperate entreaty, infused with the wild ache of a wolf parted from its mate, and despite my determination, my body answered. The warmth between us intensified, a familiar pull tightening within me, one I hadn't felt in days.

I recalled our first union in the forest after the ritual, all raw instinct and power; the second in the bathroom, urgent and untamed. This was different—slower, more intentional, born from the void of separation and the walls we'd erected.

"Dorian," I murmured, my willpower crumbling as his hands slipped beneath my shirt, his touch cool against my flushed skin. "I... I can't think straight when you're this close." Yet even as the words escaped, I leaned into him, my fingers working at the buttons of his shirt.

Memories of our time apart surged—the lonely nights, the uncertainties, the emptiness his absence carved in me. I craved him, needed him, rules forgotten.

He groaned, lifting me with effortless strength onto the bed, his form enveloping mine in a blend of possession and reverence. "Let go, Isolde. Just for tonight, let me in." His voice was a deep rumble, his hands swift as they peeled away the layers between us—my shirt, his pants—until we were bare, skin to skin.

The air grew heavy with our mingled scents, my floral notes intertwining with his musky, wild essence, amplifying every sensation.

He paused, his eyes holding mine, breaths uneven. "Tell me you want this. Tell me you need me as I need you."

I wavered, my fingers gripping his shoulders, tracing the shift of muscle beneath. "I do," I confessed, the admission pulled from deep within. "Heaven help me, I do." With that, my last defenses shattered.

He joined with me slowly at first, a deliberate merging that stole my breath, my body adjusting to him after the days of longing. It was unlike before—not the frantic rush, but a steady rhythm building like an approaching storm, each movement a reaffirmation of what we'd withheld.

His hands anchored my hips, guiding us, his pace deep and unwavering, fanning embers that had smoldered for weeks. "Isolde," he breathed, his voice fracturing as the tempo quickened, "you're my everything. I can't lose you."

His words ignited me further, my legs encircling him, drawing him nearer, the friction sparking stars in my vision. I matched his rhythm, our forms glistening with effort, the room echoing with our shared intensity—his low growls, my breathless sighs, the harmonious cadence of our union.

It was raw, profound, a fusion of desire and reconciliation, and in that moment, the outside world faded—the tainted streams, the rival packs, the hidden truths. All that remained was him, completing me, binding me in a way that felt both claiming and freeing. As we reached the peak together, my form shuddering around him, I cried out, the wave of release crashing over me, leaving me quivering in his embrace.

Later—much later—I lay in his arms, my head resting on his chest as I listened to his heartbeat gradually slow. The steady rhythm soothed me, and I traced lazy patterns on his skin, following the lines of old scars that mapped his body.

"The silver poisoning cases," I murmured, breaking the comfortable silence. "I think I can develop a more effective treatment using what I learned from healing Ella. The silver compound is similar."

He stroked my hair, his touch gentle now that the urgency had passed. "You never stop being a doctor, do you?" There was fondness in his voice.

"It's who I am," I said simply. "I need you to understand that."

"I do." His chest rose and fell with a deep breath. "I'll try to be better about respecting your independence."

I shifted to look up at him. "And I'll try to communicate better. Charlotte manipulated the situation with Ella, but I should have stayed to fight instead of running away."

His arms tightened around me. "Charlotte is... complicated. She believes Ella needs a mother, and she's convinced that should be her."

"And what do you believe?"

He was quiet for a moment. "I believe Ella needs stability and love. I promised Ryan I'd protect her, but I'm not... I don't know how to be what she needs."

The vulnerability in his admission touched me. "She's just a child, Dorian. She's confused and being used as a pawn. Maybe we could try again, together this time."

He pressed a kiss to my forehead. "I'd like that."

We lay in comfortable silence for a few minutes before he spoke again. "Stay away from Aiden Stone while you're here," he said, his tone suddenly serious. "He's dangerous, especially to you."
