CHAPTER 73 Kai Long
Fire
I was dressed in a white tactical suit covered from the neck down. I wore white gloves and white snow boots while my hair was tied up in a ponytail. My ski mask was inside my trusty backpack along with several important items I always bring with me when I work.
It was a far hike towards the Pink Meadow of Moonlight Forest. There were many of us...how many...I actually had no clue. We didn't shift into our wolf selves in the hopes of conserving our energy if a battle were to happen, but we kept vigilant, knowing bloodsuckers were lurking.
The priestesses we consulted were old women who had a number of apprentices blessed with magic. The High Elder had asked for a priestess who had the ability of invisibility, a power very rare. He said the power was primarily a gift of the golden-eyed wolf, unfortunately Adella, the famed High Priestess, was killed by the Rogue Lord. Luckily, we found a young priestess who had the rare ability, although she did warn us that her magic was quite limited.
"Did you have the privilege of meeting Adella, High Elder?" I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me. We were walking side by side through the snow. On our right, Drew was with his father while his uncle walked ahead of them. On our left, Alexander and Mark walked with the priestess while Tyler, Charles, Mason and Luke were grouped together behind us.
Moonlight Forest was still far, although we could already see the trees from where we were.
"Yes, I did know her. She was a good friend of the Perfumer," he answered.
"Amelie? She and her were friends?" I asked, surprised.
"Yes. Adella helped her start her business," he replied.
"So it's true, her daughter lives?" I asked. He smiled at me and shrugged his shoulders.
"I believe so," he said, his voice hopeful.
"My aunt said the star that represents the golden-eyed wolf shines in the sky. You really don't know where she is?" He chuckled and shook his head.
"Fire, I asked your aunt to help me find her, but even she told me that it would be impossible," the High Elder said, sighing. "She even told me you tried looking for her."
"I did try to look for the daughter of Adella," I admitted. "Then, I stopped. It's not her time to be found, High Elder. If you gaze up at her star at night, the glow is faint. I think when it is her time to come out into the world, her mate will find her."
"Why do you say that?" The High Elder asked. "Do you also have the power of foresight?"
I paused to think. I actually didn't know if I did have that kind of power. When I place my fingers on a person's face, I could see the past and the present, but not necessarily the person's future. However, when I touched Alexander's hand at the airport in Beijing, I had a vision of a beautiful, tall, young she-wolf with honey-colored eyes... that shone like gold in the moonlight. It was strange, but I felt Alexander was the key to finding her.
"I actually can't say that I do, High Elder," I said. "I just have visions. You know I'm new to all of this."
"Of course, Fire. I am actually honored to have witnessed your transformation," he said. "Sadly, there is no time to hone your skills. Although, we all know you can fight without them." He pointed to both my guns which were in their holsters strapped around my waist.
"I'm not promising I won't fight back, High Elder," I told him. "I know the Vampire King wants the sword and I have a feeling he will kill Drew's grandmother without remorse. I'm going to do everything in my power to save her if that should happen."
"I know you will, Fire. I do not doubt that."
Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of a 'white' figure coming from the forest. I wasn't sure if it was an animal or a person. But when I blinked, the figure vanished. Drew and his uncle, who had also seen the figure, started sniffing and growling. I took one of my guns out from its holster while Mark did the same following my lead.
"Fire!" A woman's voice yelled at me out of nowhere.
I jumped and pointed my gun, only to find my aunt standing in front of me, laughing. She was wearing an all white tactical suit just like me.
"Oh my gosh! You scared the bejeezus out of me!" I squealed. "What are you doing here? I thought you were going to Tokyo!"
"I changed my mind," my aunt said, her arms outstretched, waiting for a hug.
I was about to go to her, but Drew's uncle yelled, "It's a bloodsucker! Kill her!"
Drew's pack members who were hiking behind us, all rushed towards my aunt. I turned around and took out my small silver dagger from my belt, preparing myself for their attack.
My aunt hissed... her fangs were already out while her nails elongated to claws. She bent her knees and raised her hands, ready to defend herself.
"Stop!" Drew yelled at his men. "The Marchioness is your Luna's aunt. She's on our side!"
"That's impossible! The Marchioness is dead," Kai Long argued. "Kill her and kill whoever gets in your way!"
"Nooooo!" Drew yelled. "I am your Alpha! You serve me! Stand down!"
Unfortunately, some of the wolves didn't listen to Drew. I guess they were loyal to Kai Long. Two of them quickly shifted into wolf form and pounced at us. One directed at me while the other went for my aunt.
My aunt smacked the wolf that went for her, sending the wolf flying through the air and landing on the ground a good distance from us. I swiftly moved out of the way of the wolf who pounced at me, stabbing the wolf in the back as he landed on the ground. The wolf collapsed onto the snow, the silver burning his skin.
Drew tried to run towards me to help, but Kai Long growled at him, showing Drew his teeth. Drew growled back at his uncle, his eyes changing color; Dragon was at the surface ready to shift.
While the wounded wolf whimpered, the other wolf picked himself up off the ground and shook the snow off of his fur. After seeing the red stain of his friend's blood, he set his eyes on me. He snarled at me, exposing his sharp yellow teeth. He slowly approached me, growling with each step he took. I slowly backed away, throwing my backpack on the ground while keeping a wary eye on him.
"Stop!" Drew yelled. "Listen to your Alpha!"
The wolf decided to go rogue. He bolted towards me then pounced.
I shifted the dagger from one hand to the other, and before he could grab a hold of my arm, I slashed his snout with my silver dagger. He whimpered as the silver burned his face while his blood dripped on the snow.
"Fire, watch out!" Alexander called out. From behind me, Drew's uncle grabbed my hair.
"You will be punished for hurting my men!" Kai Long screeched from behind me.
"Fuck you!" I yelled and stabbed him in the thigh. He let go of my hair and screamed while he tried to pull the silver dagger from his thigh. The smell of his burning flesh filled the air.
I quickly moved towards him and punched him in the face. He fell to the ground, clutching his wounded leg.
"I've had enough of you, Kai Long. You don't think I understand Mandarin? I heard you call me an outsider, you brute! I am your Luna!" I screamed at him.
While my aunt pinned him to the ground, I bent down and quickly placed my fingers on his face. I wanted to see what happened in his past.
"You poisoned your eldest brother so you can become Alpha. You told the Viscount where to find Drew and his mother. It was the Viscount, not the Marquess, who killed Jade Long. Then, when Drew came here to bury his mother, you tried to kill him so you can keep your position, but there were protection charms in place. Protection charms put up by your own mother," I spat at him. "You are a traitor!"
"She lies!" Drew's uncle screamed. "She is not the Enchantress! She's a fraud!" My aunt slapped him in the face to shut him up.
"You killed Jade! You killed my mate! I ought to-"
Elder Drache lunged forward to attack Kai, but the High Elder stopped him. I glanced at Drew. His face was dark with fury from finally learning the truth of his mother's death. His fists were balled up and I could see he was trembling.
"Tyler, I need you to put him in chains," he said, his voice low. Judging by his face, he wanted to kill his uncle.
"Here," I picked up my trusty backpack and took out my silver cuffs and shackles. "I don't want him to run. I want him beside me when I speak to the Blood King."
"Why, Fire?" The High Elder asked, surprised.
"Because Kai Long here made a deal with the Blood King... and I also want him to admit to his mother that he wants her dead too."
