Chapter 38

Chapter 38
Natalie

I was busy in the laundry when I heard that the alpha sent for me. My heart skipped a beat, wondering if it was Lucas or Leo. I thought with the death of the Alpha, they wouldn't have time to torture me but I was wrong, it seemed like Lucas wanted to vent and decided to use me as his venting machine. But one thing was for sure, I was happy.

I knew I shouldn't feel happy at someone's death but I was glad that the three could feel what I felt when I lost my father. The pain I felt then was nothing compared to the torture that they were inflicting on me.

"Who asked for me?" I asked the guard sent to call me even though I knew there was no way he would reply. I was right. He didn't even bother to turn to look at me, talk less, or reply to me.

I walked behind him quietly, thinking about my pack members. Are they doing well? Or has James done an irreplaceable damage? I only longed for the day when I'd finally be free and have my revenge on James.

The damage that this pack has done is minor because it's quite common for powerful packs to acquire anyone less than them. The real betrayal was James.

While I was still lost in my thoughts, we arrived at our destination. The kitchen and I paled. It was probably Lucas. After all his favorite method of torture was to make me act like a dog and eat leftovers from his hand but when I got to the kitchen, I realized I was wrong.

"Take this Coffee to alpha Damien," the head maid said as she shoved the blazing hot coffee in my hands, not caring if it scalded me. It was nothing though, I was already getting used to the hardship, it's just that could one get used to hardship? You can only get used to enjoyment!

But a question that crossed my mind was, there were so many other maids in the kitchen, why did they call me from the laundry to deliver coffee?

I soon got my answers from the murmuring of the jealous maids.

"I don't know what they all see in her,"

"She must have seduced the three of them seeing that they even asked of her even when she had been sent to the laundry,"

"She just has great seducing skills,"

"I heard she was in the room with Alpha Lucas for some hours today, guess what they did,"

"Is it hard to guess?"

"She doesn't even care that they are in mourning,"

"Why should she? She is just a slut,"

Their words echoed around me, swirling in my head as I passed by. I hated them for their jealous mind because they were disgusting but my hatred for them could not compare to those I have for those three alphas. They killed my father and as if that was not enough for them, they had made it their life mission to humiliate me in the best way possible.

I walked out of the kitchen and tried to make my way to Alpha Damien's office so I could get the coffee to him hot.

Ever since that humiliating scene the other day, I hadn't seen him. But now having to face his arrogant ass, made me worried. None of the alphas were to be trifled with but I am also not one who could take it lying down.

As soon as I got to his office, I saw him rushing out of his office, and I was sure it was not because he was eager to have his coffee.

He ignored me like I was air and I was humiliated once again. I could take Lucas' behavior and Leo's tainting remarks but faced with Damien's arrogance, I always felt inferior.

After a while, Kyle came to dismiss me saying my service wasn't needed and I was sent back to the laundry to continue my back-breaking duties.

I worked my ass off trying to meet my daily requirement while trying to fight the ingrained tiredness and my aching waist and back. I was busy beating the life out of a fabric when I heard my name being called again.

"Deliver these clothes to Alpha Damien," the in-charge said and I wanted to refuse at first. Was this his way of breaking me? "Ha. This is small!" I sneered. I could endure this. It seemed like I was receiving the favor of the alphas while incurring hatred myself from the other slaves.

I walked to the main house again today, went to Alpha Damien's study then knocked on the door.

"Who is there?" a deep voice reverberated from behind the door.

"From the laundry, Alpha Damian," I replied rolling my eyes. "You sent for something and you don't remember? What alpha has such poor memory?" I thought not remembering that he had many people he sent for, or who came to his study.

"You can come in," He said after a while. I paused at the door restraining the hatred in my eyes before I entered the room. Damien is more shrewd than his brothers.

"I was told to bring this to you by the laundress," I said with a calm voice, yet my heart was filled with intense anger.

"you....!!" he started to say but held himself back, I didn't care what was wrong with him, I just wanted to get out of this room.

"When did you return to the laundry?" he started to make small talk. I was surprised but from my previous experience, I knew not to keep my expectations high. The higher you rise how more painful your fall will be.

"Why did you leave when I didn't dismiss you?" Thankfully I didn't expect too much but I was still disappointed.

"I....I...I'm sorry Alpha" I muttered. I didn't want to but I'm still a slave here, I needed rest now more than anything.

"em...I initially wanted to tell you to drop something for me but we'll see when I'm back from where I'm going," he said in reply leaving me confused on what was going on in his mind.

"Okay, Alpha... Your wish is my command, your humble servant will be waiting," I said as I bowed and left the room.

I hurried back to my work in the laundry, delivering food or anything to the Alpha didn't mean I'd be spared if I didn't complete my chores. I was so unlucky to be the target of the Walker brothers. Why can't they leave my life alone? They already made it miserable but now, they are trying to ruin it.

I stopped thinking about them as the thought brought me stomach aches and focused on my duties instead. While I was still trying to persevere, push through, and complete my work in time, another message came, "You're needed in the kitchen,"

I was fed up with this matter. Was I to be in the laundry or the kitchen?

I walked to the kitchen, collected the coffee, and headed to Damien's office.

I knocked on the door that I had stood in front of for the third time today. I was getting irritated. Why can't they just leave me alone?

The door was opened by Kyle, Damien's assistant and he signaled to me to enter the office quietly, Damien was receiving a call at the moment with a frown etched on his face.

He spoke for a minute, then took the coffee from my hand, took a sip, and returned it to me. I held it patiently whereas, in my heart, I was far from being patient. I had so much work to do.

After 10 minutes, he needed his call and finished his coffee.

"What I wanted to discuss with you," he stated and I nodded.

"I plan to promote you, be my maid," he said. If there was anything in my mouth at that moment, it would have been spat out. I burst into laughter.

"Why are you laughing?" he asked probably feeling offended.

"It's funny, that's all,"

"what's funny about it?"

we were still talking when he received a call and he frowned angry at being disturbed.

as he listened to the phone, I could see a glint of severity flash across his brown eyes and his frown deepened. A few minutes later, he hung up. I could see he was busy. That's good, so am I.

"Think about it, you have till the end of tomorrow to decide, if respect your decision, he said but his time showed no sign of respecting my decision. Then he dismissed me and I ran off to work like someone who had been granted amnesty.

"I wasn't sure of the answer to give to him"

"why would he want me to be his maid?"

he suddenly sounded like he wanted to force me to comply. just being here had given me a lot of nightmares. that wasn't a promotion. it was a death trap.

I've had enough of this Alphas and I just wished they would drop dead but can the moon goddess truly answer my prayers? I'd she could then why did my father die?

I shook the thoughts off my head. How could I wake up early and the first thing I thought of was them?

I dragged my weary body out of the bed and hurried to do what I needed to do before going to the laundry under the direction of the guards. I noticed that everywhere was lively that morning. It was because of the alpha funeral ceremony, that everyone was busy with one thing or the other.

As I washed some clothes, I started to think of my father again. I was sad because he was killed cruelly and he was not even able to have a befitting burial.

"Hey you, join them in taking out things from the store," came a stern voice from behind me. I was on the way to get some water to continue with washing then.

I stopped in my tracks and looked back to see if she was referring to me. I recognized her to be from the kitchen but then I felt she probably wasn't talking to me, after all, I wasn't in the kitchen. I started to move forward again.

"Hey, didn't you hear me? Are you dead or something?" she thundered again.

"Ma'am, were you referring to me?" I asked to be sure. I had a lot of courses to do and I was not about to waste my time doing nothing when I could have done something better and finished earlier.

"Well, aren't you a stupid one? Did you see anyone else here?" she asked with her arms akimbo. Truly there was no one else around.

"But ma'am, I am in the laundry and I have so many Shore's. I don't think I could do what you asked me to," I said firmly.

"you dare defy me? Who do you think you are? The luna? You want to dictate for me?" she started to rant and I just zoned out.

"Are you even listening?" was what I heard before I snapped out of it. I needed to get out of here. She was going to help me bear punishments so why was she causing trouble for me?

"Excuse me, please find someone else to help you, I am very busy as it is," I said then I turned to walk out. I knew she couldn't do anything to me because of Lucas unless she reported to him and I doubt he would punish me or would he? He sure always finds joy in my sorrow.

I discarded the thoughts of him again and focused on the work at hand. I went back to the laundry and continued my chores. Washing, rinsing, washing again, rinsing, flapping, spreading, sorting, ironing, folding, I dealt with each of the clothes and their issues as they came.

Soon it was lunch break but unfortunately, there was no meal because the kitchen was busy preparing for the funeral and the guest that would come around. We were served rations but I needed the 10 minutes to rest my backs that were killing me from all the bending over.

I was busy resting in the corner of the room when a loud sound from a microphone startled me.

"All slaves, report to the arena," the messenger stated and my heart skipped a beat. What could have done wrong? Why are we gathering again? Gatherings had never been my favorite.
