Chapter 65 AN EYE FOR AN EYE
CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX
GENERAL POV
The moment the words left the guard’s mouth, the entire room turned cold.
“I’m sorry sir… we can’t find Kate.”
For a second, silence swallowed the air. Then Savy exploded.
“What the fuck do you mean you can’t find Kate?”
His voice crashed against the walls like thunder. The guard standing before him stiffened immediately, sweat gathering at the edge of his temple. Everyone in the room knew that tone. It was the sound of a man standing at the edge of violence.
“Kane’s men took her,” the guard finally said.
The words had barely settled when Savy’s fist slammed into the wall.
“Shit!”
The crack echoed loudly through the room.
Dust fell from the spot where his knuckles hit. The skin on his hand split slightly but he barely noticed. Pain was the last thing on his mind.
He dragged a hand over his face and began pacing the room like a caged predator.
“So this is how he wants to play it,” he muttered bitterly.
His boots hit the floor in sharp angry steps as his mind raced.
Kane.
Of course it was Kane.
That bastard had been waiting for an opening.
“He really is going to play dirty since he can’t get me,” Savy said under his breath, his jaw tightening.
The guard lowered his head.
“I’m sorry sir.”
Savy stopped pacing.
Slowly, he turned toward him.
There was something terrifying about the quiet fury in his eyes.
“You should be sorry,” Savy said coldly.
The guard swallowed hard.
“If Kate doesn’t come back alive,” Savy continued, his voice dangerously calm, “I will make sure I kill you myself.”
Savy ran a hand through his hair, frustration burning through his chest. Kate had always been stubborn. Too stubborn for her own good. He had warned her countless times to stay away from the mess surrounding him and Kane.
But Kate had never been the type to listen.
Now she had been dragged straight into the war.
“Get the boys ready,” Savy suddenly ordered, already walking toward the door.
“Yes sir.”
“I have a plan in mind.”
He stepped into the hallway, his thoughts spinning faster than his feet.
Kate had become collateral damage.
That alone was enough to make his blood boil.
“She always does this,” he muttered to himself. “Always sticking her nose where danger is.”
But beneath the anger was something deeper.
Fear. The kind he refused to acknowledge.Kate was family.
And family was the only weakness men like Kane waited for.He stopped walking suddenly.
What do I threaten Kane with?
Kane wasn’t a man who scared easily. Power, money, bloodshed, none of it moved him.But everyone had something.Everyone had a weakness.
Savy turned sharply and began pacing again.
“If you want to take my sister,” he murmured, his voice dark with resolve, “then I’ll take something from you too.”
His eyes hardened.
“An eye for an eye.”
“Samantha… Samantha.”
Samantha stirred weakly on the bed.
Her body felt heavy, every bone aching like it had been dragged through fire. Her nose was still slightly swollen and her throat burned each time she breathed.
“Yes…” she whispered hoarsely.
Nanny walked in slowly, carrying a small bowl and a cloth.
“How are you feeling?” she asked gently.
Samantha pushed herself up slightly, immediately sneezing.
“I’m fine,” she said tiredly.
The lie was obvious.
Nanny sat beside her and helped her sit properly.
“Let me look at you,” she said quietly.
Her fingers gently brushed Samantha’s cheek, checking the bruises forming along her jaw.
“Did he hurt you badly?” she asked.
Samantha shook her head slowly.
“Not really,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Nothing I haven’t had before.”
Nanny paused.
She looked at Samantha carefully.
For a moment, something flickered across her face. It was small, almost hidden, but Samantha still saw it.
A faint smile.
“Please Nanny,” Samantha suddenly said, panic rising in her voice. “Tell me Kate is alive. Please.”
The fear in her eyes was raw.Nanny gently placed the cloth on Samantha’s forehead.
“She is alive,” she said calmly.
Samantha let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.
“She’s resting now,” Nanny continued. “The doctor treated her wounds.”
“Thank God,” she murmured.
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.
Then Nanny leaned back slightly and looked at her.
“I will not scold you for what you did out there,” she said slowly.
Samantha lowered her eyes.
“But you placed Kane in a difficult position,” Nanny continued. “You used his weakness.”
Samantha’s fingers tightened around the bedsheet.
“I know I’m not his weakness,” she muttered.
Nanny tilted her head.
“You are his mate,” she said plainly.
Samantha stiffened.
The word felt heavy in the room.
“You were bought with a huge sum of money,” Nanny continued calmly. “And that purchase was paid with a very big price.”
Samantha felt heat crawl up her neck in shame.
“But listen carefully to me,” Nanny added, her voice suddenly firmer.
She leaned closer.
“As relevant as you may be, to Kane no one is indispensable.”
The words sank deep.Samantha lowered her head. She already knew that truth.
In Kane’s world, loyalty had limits. Affection had limits. Even life itself had limits.
Only power mattered.
“Be careful, Samantha,” Nanny warned quietly.
“You have come too far to meet your Waterloo.”
Samantha nodded slowly.
“Yes Nanny.”
Nanny stood up and adjusted the blanket around her.
“Micky is back from school,” she said casually.
Samantha immediately tensed.
“She’s been asking for you.”
Samantha hesitated.
Fear crept into her chest again.
“What if Kane comes in?” she asked quietly.
Before she could say more, Nanny gave a small knowing smile.
“Do not worry,” she said.
Samantha looked up.
Nanny’s eyes softened slightly.
“He is not here.”
Samantha blinked.
“Where did he go?” she asked.
Nanny picked up the bowl and cloth.
But before leaving, she paused at the door.
“He left in a hurry,” she said.
Then she looked back at Samantha.
“And when Kane leaves in a hurry…”
Her voice dropped slightly.
“It usually means someone else is about to suffer.”
Samantha’s stomach twisted.
The door closed softly behind Nanny.
Leaving her alone with a single terrifying thought.
Somewhere out there, Kane and Savy were about to collide.
