Chapter 22 — It's Important
Kyle's POV:
I opened the door, and both Penelope and Brian get out of bed, both looking shocked.
"What is this?" I questioned both of them, but none of them responded.
"Penelope?" I said again, staring intently at her. "Brian?" I called as Penelope didn't respond and turned my eyes to him.
Brian sighed, walking towards me. "I can explain everything."
I moved farther away from him and shook my head.
"All I want to know is if the child you're expecting is mine," I questioned in a solemn tone.
"I was going to tell you soo—"
I raised my hand, cutting her off, and stormed out of the room. Brian and Penelope called out after me, but I just ignored them, hurried to my car, and drove off.
I drove to my house feeling betrayed. How can the important people in my life make me feel this way?
I should have known something was going on between the two. I feel so stupid. Getting excited about a baby that's not even mine, they must have laughed at me behind my back.
As soon as I step into the house, my mom greets me with a hug and a smile.
"Kyle, what do you think about this baby crib?" She asked me with an enthusiastic look.
I gave her no response and made my way towards my room.
"You don't think it's time yet?!" I heard her ask from downstairs, but I still ignore her.
I closed my door shut and sat on the bed to think about my life. What is going on? Why's my life filled with liars and backstabbers?
The only good thing about my life right now is Kylie. And I will bring her here, to her house. I won't let her stay with a woman who doesn't think it is necessary for her father to know that she exists.
I won't do what she did. I will let my whole family know that she exists. They will help me bring her to her rightful home.
After making up my mind, I hurriedly took a shower, put on a shirt and shorts, and made my way to the dining table to talk to everyone at once.
"Kyle! Wait for me!" Emily called from the hallway, and I immediately halt.
"Thank you, let's go." She thanked me once she caught up with me.
We both walked in silence to the dining table where my mom and dad both sat, waiting for us.
"There you guys are!" My father smiled when he noticed is enter the room.
We both took a seat while one of the maids served the food and left.
The dinner was silent. The only sound to be heard was the cutlery touching the plate.
I took a deep breath, "I want to say some—" I paused as both me and Emily said it at the same time. We looked at each other and stared at our plate.
"Go on, Em." I ushered her, but she shook her head. "You didn't laugh when we said that in unison, so I guess it's important?" I continued.
"You around didn't laugh, so it must be serious too. So go on." She ushered me, and I sighed.
"I have a kid," I announced, and my father choked on his wine.
"We know Kyle! But I don't think you can call a child that's not out of the womb yet a kid. It's called a fetus if I remember my biology correctly." My mom explained while I gave her a blank look.
"Is that right, Kyle?" My dad asked, and I shook my head.
"What the hell do you mean by you have a kid?!" My father thundered, hitting the table.
"I just found out today! I wasn't even aware of this fact yesterday!" I answered back to my father, who let out a scoff.
"So the cheap slut appeared after the money she had finished? Don't worry. I'll pay her off. She probably needs more money." My mom concluded, and it was my turn to scoff.
"First, she doesn't need money. Second, did you just actually call the mother of your granddaughter a slut?!" I ask, shaking my head in disbelief.
"So, what does she want?" My father asked me more calmly than before.
"Nothing! She doesn't even want me close to her!" I give a defeated sigh.
"Who does she think she is to do that to you!" My father thundered again, still hitting the table.
"Honey, I think it would be better if Kyle stays awa—"
"Why still he stay away from his daughter, Liv?!" My father shot back at my mom.
"Well, because he's getting married! What do you think Fred is gonna say about this? Why am I the one telling you this? Should you not know the consequences?" My mom said, and my father rolled his eyes.
"Yes, I agree Penelope is pregnant, but why should Kyle's other child suffer for what she doesn't know? I'm certain that she's not aware that she has a father or extended family."
"So, what are you trying to say?" My mom asked, squinting her eyes at my father.
"I'm trying to say that I can accept the child, but Kyle still has to marry Penelope." My father decided.
"But the problem is that she's not even letting me take her." I finally voiced out.
"She obviously doesn't know who she's messing with. Who's this girl?"
"Her name is Alexis—"
"I should have known that it was going to be that your silly girlfriend from before." Mom commented, and I ignore her.
"So it's a girl," my dad smiled. "I have a granddaughter. And I'm going to have another grandchild soon. I'm so proud of you, son!" My father embraced me with a pure smile.
"How are you sure she's yours? Did you do a DNA test to confirm this?"
"Enough, Mom! I am certain that she's my child."
She wouldn't tell me such a big lie, right?
"Congratulations, brother!" Emily chirped in and hugged me.
"So, what were you saying again?" I asked Emily, who just shook her head.
"Never mind, it's not important." She gave a small smile and excused herself.
"So, how do we take her?"
"I don't trust her, so I'd say we take it to court."
