Chapter 31
Andrew instructed Janet to keep an eye on Loretta once she started working and to inform him of any strange behavior. He emphasized the importance of being vigilant, noting that any unusual activities, no matter how minor, should be reported to him immediately. Janet nodded, understanding the seriousness of the task. After their conversation, Andrew took a taxi to the airport to meet Loretta. The day was hot, and the city buzzed with the usual hustle and bustle as the taxi made its way through the crowded streets.
Upon arrival at the airport, Andrew stepped out of the taxi, paid the driver, and began to walk towards the arrivals hall. The airport was busy with travelers hurrying to and from their destinations, families reuniting, and business people on the go. Just as Andrew was about to enter the hall, a Porsche Macan came to an abrupt stop right in front of him, the screeching brakes drawing the attention of bystanders.
The driver’s window rolled down, revealing Aden, Clara’s cousin. Aden leaned out of the window, his expression a mixture of surprise and disdain. “What are you doing here?” he asked, frowning.
Andrew, maintaining his composure, replied, “I’m here to pick up Clara’s friend. And you?”
Recognizing Aden, Andrew also noticed Daniel and Sarah in the vehicle. The trio was often seen together, and their presence indicated that they had plans of their own for Loretta.
Aden sneered, “You’re not needed here. We’re here for Miss Adrian. Go away!”
Andrew ignored their condescending attitude and proceeded directly into the arrivals hall. Aden’s face reddened with anger, but Sarah quickly interjected, reminding him of their main goal: to win Loretta’s favor. Gaining her approval could significantly elevate their family’s status, a fact that wasn’t lost on any of them. Understanding the importance of the situation, they quickly followed Andrew inside.
As Andrew entered the hall, he couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anxiety. He hadn’t seen Loretta in years, and he wondered how much she had changed. He scanned the crowd, looking for any sign of her.
Soon, a striking woman with long auburn hair and a white dress caught everyone’s attention. Her hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall, and the dress perfectly accentuated her graceful figure. Even behind her sunglasses, Loretta’s beauty and elegance were evident. Her skin was flawless, and her fiery-red lips added a touch of boldness to her appearance. The way she carried herself, with confidence and poise, made it clear that she was someone of importance.
As she approached, Aden couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. He stepped forward, a wide smile on his face. “Loretta, it’s been a long time. You look even more beautiful now,” he said, trying to make a good impression.
Andrew, always polite, added, “Hi, it’s been a while.”
Aden, eager to take control of the situation, quickly said, “Loretta, I booked a suite at the best hotel in town to welcome you. Let’s go.”
Loretta glanced at Andrew before replying, “Aden, I’m sorry, but I already accepted Clara and Andrew’s invitation. We’ll catch up another time. I’ll be in Beverly Hills for a while, so we’ll have plenty of opportunities.”
Aden’s enthusiasm quickly turned to irritation. He had planned this welcome meticulously, hoping to impress Loretta and perhaps even win her over. But now, Andrew had ruined his chance. Struggling to hide his frustration, he sarcastically said, “Loretta, I reserved the Grand Pavilion at the most famous restaurant in Beverly Hills, with a minimum spend of five hundred thousand dollars. I wonder where my lowly cousin-in-law booked? It would be very disrespectful if he chose a mediocre place.”
Andrew, remaining calm and composed, casually mentioned that he also booked a suite at the same restaurant. Aden laughed mockingly, clearly doubting Andrew’s capability. The idea that Andrew, who was often looked down upon by the family, could secure a reservation at such a prestigious place seemed ridiculous to him.
Loretta, aware of Andrew’s lower status in the family and sensing the tension, quickly suggested they all go together to avoid further embarrassment. She had always appreciated Andrew’s kindness and didn’t want him to be humiliated in front of everyone.
Aden, irritated but willing to please Loretta, reluctantly agreed to let Andrew join. He couldn’t resist taking another jab at Andrew, mocking him for what he perceived as a desperate attempt to save face. “Unlike someone here. If not for your sake, he’d probably never have the chance to visit such a high-end restaurant in his entire lifetime,” he sneered.
Andrew, unfazed by Aden’s taunts, smirked and chose not to engage in further argument. He knew that once they arrived at the restaurant, the situation would speak for itself. He had confidence in the arrangements he had made through Nicholas, and he was certain that the evening would go smoothly.
As they made their way to the Grand Pavilion, Andrew couldn’t help but marvel at the opulence of the restaurant. The Grand Pavilion was an elegant and classical European-style establishment. The interior and design were full of exquisite charm and exclusivity, with intricate details that spoke of sophistication and luxury. Even the signboard at the entrance was made of high-quality yellow rosewood, adding to the overall grandeur of the place.
Andrew had heard of the Grand Pavilion’s reputation but had never imagined he would be dining there. He thought about how Clara would love the place, and he made a mental note to bring her here one day. The restaurant’s ambiance was perfect for a special occasion, and he knew Clara would appreciate the experience.
As they stepped inside, Loretta looked around, clearly impressed. “I’ve heard about the Grand Pavilion back in Wastcliff, and it certainly meets expectations,” she said, her eyes taking in the elegant surroundings.
Aden, eager to claim credit, smiled proudly and said, “Loretta, I had to bring you to the finest place for your visit, of course.”
Then, he glanced at Andrew mockingly. “Unlike someone here. If not for your sake, he’d probably never have the chance to visit such a high-end restaurant in his entire lifetime.”
Andrew maintained his composure, refusing to rise to the bait. He knew that the evening would prove Aden wrong. As they were led to their reserved suite, the grandeur of the restaurant continued to impress. The suite was lavishly decorated, with plush seating and beautifully set tables. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff ready to cater to their every need.
