Chapter 60 An Unexpected Turn Of Event.
The entire school stood frozen. As they tried to take in what the hell was happening right before their very eyes.
I could feel it—the shock, the disbelief, the electric tension buzzing through the hallway. Everyone was staring at us. At him. The Russian Mafia leader, standing in their school.
To them that's definitely crazier than knowing that vampires exist and the feared Mafia lord is one.
And worst of all, he was kissing me. Could this get any more crazy?
Even though his lips was on mine, my mind went completely blank. I couldn't recover from the shock of him being here in my school, kissing me. Just few days ago, he refused to accept me and pushed me out of his world.
Why then was he here?
Why did he follow me?
I hadn’t even recovered from the feel of his lips when the questions came rushing in. Did he leave the vampire world because he realized his true feelings for me? Didn’t he say he wasn’t going to come with me? Maybe he realized that he loved me in ways he claimed not to.
Domenic pulled away slowly, a small smile playing on his lips as he looked down at me. I was still too stunned to react.
Moreover, his handsome face was getting to me. He has always looked a lot more handsome when he smiles. My poor heart is definitely in trouble.
I should be mad that he threw me away, but now all of a sudden he's here kissing me like nothing happened, but I couldn't bring myself to be mad at him. I loved him too much to stay angry at him.
“Sorry I’m late,” he said softly, only audible for me to hear.
Late? What the hell is he talking about? Late for what?
Before I could process that, his arm slid around my waist unexpected, pulling me closer to him like it was the most natural thing in the world. Then he turned, finally acknowledging the crowd—and Jason.
Jason, his Barbie doll girlfriend Anna and Quinn were all looking at Domenic and I in absolute shock. I don't blame them though. If someone else was in my situation and I was watching from the sideline, I would also be extremely shocked.
Quinn was the first to recover and speak. She gasped beside me. “Oh my God,” she stuttered. “Oh my God! It’s… it’s Domenic Darkshadow!! It's... it's DOMENIC DARKSHADOW!!!”
I winced at her screams feeling a bit of second hand embarrassment on her behalf. Although she has every reason to be this way. Domenic is a very power person not to speak out his extraordinary looks. Who wouldn't nervously stumble in his presence.
Domenic glanced at her and smiled slightly. “That’s correct,” he said calmly. “I'm Domenic Darkshadow. You must be Quinn.”
Her eyes widened in disbelief and I glanced at Domenic surprised. How did he know her name? Have I ever told him about her?
Quinn looks extremely shocked that Domenic knew her name. "You... You... How did you know my name?"
Domenic looked down at me. "You're my girlfriend's best friend. How would I not know about you."
I chocked on nothing at the word 'girlfriend'.
What the hell is Domenic talking about? I'm his girlfriend?
Quinn looked from me to Domenic. "Um, what do you mean girlfriend? How do you even know Kate? It doesn't make sense to me."
Domenic was smug when he replied. "All those days she was away from home, she has been with me."
The murmurs exploded instantly. Everyone could not believe their ears. The stories was turning around. Everyone was now thinking that Domenic was the boyfriend I was talking about. They now think I didn't lie.
Everyone whispered loudly, no longer bothering to hide it.
"How did it happen? How did Kate manage to get the attention of the most dangerous man in the city?"
"Was Kate right when she said she had a better boyfriend than Jason? Because Domenic is definitely better than Jason both in wealth and looks."
"Lucky Kate. I wish it was me."
Jason could no longer take the ridicule. He scoffed loudly, clearly trying to regain control of the situation. “This is bullshit,” he snapped. “He’s obviously a fake. There's no way Domenic Darkshadow would date someone like Kate.”
Stupid prick!
Domenic turned to him slowly.
The air shifted.
His gaze was calm—too calm. But there was something deadly beneath it, something that made my skin prickle. "You think I'm fake? I'll be happy to prove myself to you." He asked simply, green eyes hard and tone deadly. His tone alone was enough to get Jason shaking like a leaf in the mercy of a strong wind.
I watched the color drain from Jason’s face as Domenic leaned just close enough to make his presence undeniable. Domenic was almost a head taller than Jason and obviously more muscular. He glared down at Jason like he was dirt beneath his shoes. The same way Jason looked down on others.
"What do you say boy? Would you like me to prove myself?" He said lowly.
Jason swallowed hard as he gazed up at Domenic, his legs visibly trembling like he might actually pee his pants.
Some of the students snickered. This is truly humiliating to the golden boy of the school.
That was enough.
Before things could spiral any further, I grabbed Domenic’s hand and dragged him toward the exit. The crowd parted instantly, still too stunned to react as we left the building behind.
Outside, I finally let go of him and spun around.
“What are you doing here?” I demanded. “You said you weren’t coming. You said you wouldn’t follow me. What are you doing in the human world?”
Domenic didn’t hesitate.
He took both my hands in his, his grip warm and steady. “I was wrong Kate,” he said quietly. “I gave up on you too easily.”
My chest tightened. Has he realized his feelings?
No Kate, don't get your hopes on so soon.
“I learned my lesson,” he continued. “I won’t leave you again. Ever. I’ll stay by your side and protect you—no matter what. I just need you to give me a chance.”
I crossed my arms and glared at him. "Why should I? You didn't think twice when you threw me out of your world?"
"I'm sorry about that," he sighed. "But this time I want to be by your side. This time I won't even think about going back to the vampire world because I have realized what I truly feel for you."
I stared at him skeptically, my heart pounding in my chest. "And what do you feel?"
He looked me straight in the eyes and said. "I love you Kate. I regret not saying it that day when you told me, but I've realized what I feel, and it's love."
I searched his eyes for any sign of dishonesty. I hated how much I wanted to believe him. But just a few days ago, he didn't reply when I said it to him. What makes him think he's in love with me all of a sudden?
A small, traitorous part of me felt happy and hopeful—relieved even—but I refused to let him see that.
I yanked my hands out of his grip. “If you think I’m just going to believe you just like that,” I said harshly, “you’re wrong.”
His eyes lit up—not with anger, but with something else. He looks interested, like I had just proposed a challenge and he was more than ready to prove me wrong.
“Then I’ll prove it to you,” he said without hesitation. “I swear it.”
I turned away before he could say anything else and walked back toward the school entry.
But as I stepped inside, I couldn’t stop the small smile that curved on my lips.
Because no matter how hard I tried to deny it—
I was happy.
Domenic came back to me.
