Chapter 147 A Curse On Khaos.

Chapter 147 A Curse On Khaos.
KATE’S P.O.V.

The palace ignored Khaos’s warning and returned to making preparations for the war. Camille has already been laid to rest and all thats left now is to get ready for the war.

The air in the vampire nation, once filled with the warmth after Camille and Josh took the throne now felt like a hollow home of grief, anger and war. Everywhere I looked, vampire soldiers were sharpening blades. The council has already finalised their decision. War was no longer a possibility, but a certainty. Josh was gone, buried deep in his grief. His heart was ice cold, and nothing could melt it. Except maybe seeing the witches Kingdom in flames.

I couldn't stay in council hall any longer. I knew they were about to undergo a suicidal journey and my heart bleed because I could not stop them. I was not as young and crazy as I was in the past.

I retreated to a quiet room, where I found little Frederick seated on the edge of a massive Queen-sized bed, his small shoulders slumped. He looked so tiny in this, dark palace—a human-vampire child suddenly caught in a storm he couldn't understand.

I sighed and sat down beside him, and he didn't even look up at first. "Hey, little man," I said softly, resting a hand on his back. "What’s going on in that head of yours?"

He looked up with his red eyes that usually flickered from red to blue. Quinn has blue eyes, so I'm guessing his human side took her eyes while his vampire side obviously took his father's eyes. Right now his eyes was showing that of his father's.

My heart broke at the sadness in his eyes, and a single tear escaped, rolling down his cheek. "I miss my mommy, auntie Kate. And I miss Lucia. I want to go back home. It’s too loud here. And everyone looks scary."

I pulled him into a hug, tucking his head under my chin. I felt sorry for the little boy. "I know, honey. I miss them too. But we have to help Uncle Josh right now. Once we finish up here, I promise we’ll go back. You’ll be home with your mom and Lucia before you know it." It had barely been a day in the vampire nation and he was already missing his mom. The coming months are going to be hell for him. That is if they survived the war.

The door opened, and Domenic walked in, followed by Lorenzo. Lorenzo was no longer the little boy I knew. He was tall and slender with a hint of glowing red eyes. He smiled when he saw me and I returned the warm smile. Domenic looked exhausted, his brows were furrowed in a permanent line of frustration. Lorenzo, on the other hand, looked like a man drowning in his own sorrow.

I stood up and walked straight to Lorenzo, pulling him into a tight embrace. "I am so sorry about your mom, Lorenzo. She was a very good person. The best Queen the vampire nation could ever hope for. Believe me, when I got lost here years ago, this place was hell, but Camille changed it for the better. Its so sad that we lost such an extraordinary woman."

Lorenzo hugged me back, his breath hitching. "Thank you, Auntie Kate. It’s good to see you too and I really appreciate your kind words." He pulled away, sadly. "When I first saw her on that stretcher being brought in... I wanted to burn the witches myself. I wanted to destroy everything. But then I remembered who she was. My mother was a woman of peace. She died trying to save lives, not take them. She would hate what’s happening now." He looked at an empty space with sad eyes filled with emptiness. "I tried talking to
Dad. I begged him to listen to reason, to honor her by keeping the peace she loved. But it’s like he can’t hear me. His mind is made up and he thinks vengeance is the only way to honor her."

Domenic let out a harsh, frustrated breath. "I don’t know what’s come over him, Kate. He’s completely blinded by rage. It’s like the Josh we all knew is gone, replaced by a man who only wants to see the world bleed. Nothing I say can make him change his mind, and the council members especially Giron keeps making things worse."

I looked from Domenic to Lorenzo, feeling overwhelmed by the situation. We cant let this war happen. "Josh has already made up his mind and we can do nothing about it. We just have to hope for the
best."

But in my mind, I was already making other plans. I have to find Khaos. I was his Guardian and I need to take responsibility so that this war wont happen. If I couldn't convince him to take control and end Josh’s madness, the supernatural world would fall to shambles.

That night, I was lost in another world where only the moon goddess exist. I found myself back in that familiar, cloud-filled space, glowing with an ethereal, noon-day light. The Moon Goddess stood before me, her luminous form radiating from the mist. But this time, The soft, elegant look that made her glow like a radiant Queen was not there, instead she looks small and heartbroken.

She stared at me with sad eyes, "Kate my dear human guardian. The world is falling. My children are preparing to go on a war that would destroy everything I've built."

"Is there truly nothing you can do?" I asked, in a desperate panicked tone. The dream still remains vivid in my mind and it left me scared. "Khaos has abandoned us to ourselves."

"I wish there is, child," the Goddess replied, her voice a melodic sigh of grief. "I am truly disappointed in Khaos. He has proven stubborn beyond measure. He has allowed his pride and his anger to cloud the very reason for his existence." Her voice held slight anger now. "He feels my children are ungrateful, forgetting that I created him not to be thanked, but to protect."

"I’ll find him," I promised, stepping toward her. Her anger seems even more dangerous than Khaos. "I’ll bring him to his senses. I can talk to him."

The Goddess looked at me with sad desperate eyes. "You must try, Kate. But you must also know this: if Khaos sits back and allows this war to happen, if he watches my children perish because he is too hurt to help, a curse will be placed upon him."

I froze, my blood running cold. I know nothing about curses, but for some reason, I could tell that a curse of hers would carry a lot of weight. "A curse on Lord Khaos?" I gulped.

"He defied his purpose," she said solemnly. "If he refuses to offer his strength to those in need, then he shall never experience the joy of love. He will be a creature of immense power, but he will be forever alone, a hollow vessel drifting through eternity."

My breath hitched. That sounded incredibly harsh. To me, its a fate worse than death. A mortal being such as Khaos would live his eternity without experiencing true love. I know hes a huge flirt and a player, but he deserves love as well. But again, I knew better than to question her. The only help I can offer him is to find him and convince him to stop the war.

"The world is in grave danger, Kate," The moon goddess continued, stepping forward to grab my hands in hers. "If this war happens, it will create a vacuum of suffering. A greater evil will arise from the ashes—one far more terrible than Helios ever was. If Khaos does not stand up before it is too late, he will be the one to suffer the most. The consequences of his inaction will haunt him forever. You must find him Kate."

I nodded with determination. "Yes, I'll try my best."

The clock was ticking. I had to find the Beast, and I had to do it before he lost the only thing that could truly save him someday: his heart.
