Chapter 32
The whole time I was waiting for someone to collect me for the engagement ceremony I was nervous, I didn't know how long it would be before someone came for me, but I took my time to get ready anyway, I don't want to rush and make myself look stupid.
That was the last thing I wanted to do in front of all of the vampires. I didn't want to make the king or queen look stupid for choosing me to be a part of the family, so I had to make myself look presentable, but even as I stand in front of the mirror I didn't even feel ready, I didn't feel like I have done enough.
I didn't feel like I looked enough.
it took me a whole hour to find the right dress, there were plenty to choose from I just didn't think any of them were pretty enough or sparkly enough or even colourful enough, but eventually I decided on a pale violet gown with diamonds embedded in the chest and vines going all the way down the skirt. I even found another skirt that would go with it and keep so skirt higher which obviously made it easier to walk in.
I found the perfect set of Violet pumps, along was an amethyst necklace and a matching set of earrings.
I love the make up that i decided to do it was simple and I only applied a little bit of mascara and some light pink lipstick that only seemed to make my pake skin paler, but after i applied a small amount of blush, it looked better.
i didnt apply enough to make me look like a clown, just the right amount to make it look like my cheeks had some colour in them.
I did my own hair and decided on a half pinup style, the bit of hair left down curled with the hair tongs that I had managed to find in the Vanity table.
I looked passible i guess, but i still felt like I could do more to look better, even though i could think of nothing else to add to the look.
I guess it would just have to do, i didn't have much experience in these things.
I just jumped when a knock sounded at the door a Small girl coming in with a crown in her hand, she was dressed in a soft pink gown, and had a bright smile on her face.
"my mother told me to bring you this. she said you need it." said the little girl with brown curls and emeral eyes, i could guess who's daughter she was just buy her eyes.
"Celeste! i I told you not to run off, I was on my way." The Queen said coming around the corner and into the room.
"You take too long mum." The little girl laughs and my heart swells with affection, she was adorable.
it was hard to believe she was a vampire, but i heard some of the servants talking and they didn't get their fangs until well into their 25th year of life. she looked no older than 6.
"My mum was the exact same!" i laughed, smiling at the little girl.
"oh yes, i can see you being the best sister, she already gets away with murder around all the boys." The queen laughed, whilst the little girl did nothing but smile up at me.
"You are so prettty, my brother is so lucky." Celeste gushed, running up to me and grabbing my legs. "I am excited to finally have a sister, we are going to have so much fun together."
"im sure we are. IS that for me?" i ask, pointing at the crown.
She nods, her smile widening, "its the perfect crown, pretty just like you!"
i crouch down to her level, wrapping my arm around her waist and pulling her onto my knee. "I think you are much prettier, you are the most beautiful little girl i had ever seen."
"you mean that?" she asked, her eyes wide and innocent.
"of course i do!" i say, placing a hand over my heart. "sisters never lie to each other."
"Best friends?" she asks and i nod, so she continues, "can i put the tiara on you? i always wanted to do it."
i nod, "of course you can, princess Celeste."
She places the tiara onto my head and i smile down at her, telling her what a good job she had done, she quickly ran back out of the room and i saw a couple of servants chasing her down the hallway.
The queen turns to look back at me and i worry that i have overstepped, but before i can apologise she speaks. "Thank you for that, Celeste was so excited to meet you, she ran the whole way here."
"she's beautiful and kind, you must be so poud of her." i smile, rising back to my feet.
The queen continues to smile, straighteneing the tiara on my head , "i know you have no fondness in your heart for the vampire kind, but perhaps you would be able to find a happy home here amongst us." she squeezes my shoulder. "if i could have saved your mother i would have, but i would be glad to call you a daughter of mine."
Tears whelled up in my eyes, but i held them back. "You knew her?"
The queen shakes her head, "not peronally but she contacted me and asked for help, but i didn't arrive in time. You were all too far away." she sighs, her face sadening. "she hated us too, she couldn't move past her hatred for my kind."
"Why did she ask for help, how did she know to contact you?" i asked in a blind panic, i never knew any of this.
"your great grandmother Beatrice came to her, as she does all her grandchildren when they are in dire need, but your mother waited too long to listen. she paid for her stubborness and hatred with her life and by the time we arrived, both you and your sister had vanished." she pulled me into her arms. "i thought we had lost you until Beatrice told me six months ago that you were alive."
"I dont understand why you care for me so much." i say, pulling back slightly, "it can't just be because of the betrothal."
"it isn't" the queen admitted, "back during the war she helped us to win, Beatrice and i were good friends, i watched all 11 of her children grow into adulthood and helped some escape the slaughter, but your great grandmother knew that it was her time. she knew that she had to die, she was stubborn too." the queen laughed. "she wouldn't let me change her."
"Thank you for watching over me, i appriciate it your majesty." i say with a bow.
"We will have none of that, no such formalities between us, call me either mother or Morigan." She said sternly, but her smile was warm. "Now enough of this or you will be late for your own engagement ceremony and we can't have that my dear."
"You are right, can't be late." i laugh, taking my new mothers hand and leaving the safety of the room.
it was now or never.
