I poured a mugful of wine for myself, clicked it to his and mumbled, “Cheers to success, forgiveness and reunion.” Morgan Harris became all smiles as I smiled forcefully and we gulped down the wine. “You will always be my boss, Morgan, so I wonder why I shouldn’t forgive you.” I added amidst contagious smile.
He lowered his gaze, perhaps still surprise that I could still find a place in my heart to forgive him despite all he did to me. He molded his arms and bowed.
“I appreciate so much the world richest man. Despite all that I did to you, you still find a place in your heart to forgive me. Oh!” he shook his head pitiably, “Indeed you are a Croesus. You are the world richest man!” he hailed me, “I must admit that you have earned my loyalty for life. He went down on his knees and wanted to break down in tears and I stopped him.
“Stop this, Morgan Harris. I have forgiven you and I want you to accept it in its exactitude. Stop weeping like a biddy. If you keep weeping like a biddy, how do you want us to discuss this business?”
Promptly he sat down, dabbed his eyes of the tears that surged down and intoned, “I can’t wait to hear the business you have for me. You know from time immemorial I have been a lover of business. Ambitiousness is not even the right word that best describes me.”
“I know Morgan Harris,” I replied and we burst into a huge laugh that left us choking on it. “That is the reason I am bringing this business proposal to you.” I opened the brown file, brought out some papers and gave him, “I would want you to take a look at those documents and tell me what you think of it.” I swung in my swivel chair and waited for him.
A canopy of smile fell upon his face as he read through the documents and nodded in confirmation.
“When I heard it over the news I never knew you were the moneybag that the ministry gave license to explore the national oil well. This is such a great privilege to amass wealth.”
I smiled briefly and shook my head in confirmation, “Take this document” I gave him another document which I know would catch his interest.
“What!” he exclaimed after reading it, “Fifty trillion dollars net worth!” he gagged his mouth and blinked repeatedly in shock. Promptly Morgan Harris fell upon his face and bowed to me before hailing, “Today I have met the god of wealth in person. You are the greatest! Oh Mike Don you have leapt to the top…”
I stood to my feet, came over and patted him on the shoulders, “Perk up, Morgan Harris. Rise and be of good cheer.” I aided him and he sat down on his chair. “I have a good offer for you, Morgan.” I said and simpered cheek to cheek as I watched him wipe his tears hastily and brightened up to know what offer I had.
“I am all ears, boss,” Morgan Harris sounded and bowed each time. With bated breath he watched me pull out another brown file and placed before him.
“Morgan I want to avail you the opportunity to merge your company with mine in the oil well sector,” I sounded and once he dragged a frown of confusion across his face, I explained yet further, “What do I mean? The Saint Don Group is sourcing for conglomerates that will be shareholders in the oil well which I am exploring,” I brought out my daily profit document, “Here we are.” I pointed at the document. “Once you agree to merge your company and be a shareholder, on a daily you will have a share of fifty million dollars…”
Abruptly Morgan Harris interrupted me with an exclamation, “Fifty what! Oh my god! This is so much money for a daily income.” He leaned forward and grabbed the document, “Tell me what next, Mike Don I want to be a shareholder of this oil well. I am all ears, go ahead.”
I pulled back in my chair and let a contagious smile, noticing the cloud of excitement that filled his eyes and the anxiety to acquire more wealth which had possessed him.
“Chin up, Morgan Harris. I really want you to be a share holder of this oil well that is why I am bringing it to your notice. Now you are going to sign to some documents which will make you eligible to be a shareholder.”
I rubbed my palms in satisfaction, “You know what? You are even fortunate to be the last mogul to be a shareholder,” I lied, and smirked, “The window period closes today…”
Morgan Harris molded his arms and sang praises to God by being fortunate to be the last share holder. Suddenly I saw warm tears trickle down his eyes and I pulled a frown.
“Why are you all tears, Morgan?” I queried and expected him to be more emotional than he was already.
He shook his head pitiably and struggled to say, “I don’t deserve all of this from a boy I underrated, accused falsely and sent to jail. I never knew some day I would be seated before you to earn a favor which I don’t deserve…” he sniffed repeatedly and queried, “What did I do to deserve this, Mike?”
I forced a twinkle and intoned, “You did nothing Morgan Harris. You just have to chin up and sign the documents because I got a brief meeting with the minister for petroleum.” I gave him the documents and he signed them and then I added, “You will get me original copies of your license and prove of ownership of the Morgan Group for proper documentation since we are merging, uh.”
He gave a nod in agreement and we had a warm handshake and he left excitedly.
I gnashed my teeth, scowled my face and raised a chiseled brow as I watched him drive away.
“Morgan Harris, welcome to your doom!” I groaned and clicked my fingers in fury…
