The Man Gets Jealous
Alison pushed open the door and walked in.
Aidan looked up at her from the doorway.
He was also still wearing the same clothes from last night.
Jack turned around, surprised by Alison's arrival, but quickly smiled. "Alison, are you planning to work at YD?"
"Yes, I'm considering it," Alison replied honestly while secretly admiring Jack's ability to change the subject.
"Just because I didn't let you go back to work? But Alison, Lyla, and Tyler are still young. You should wait until they turn one before you think about going back to work," Jack said.
"I'll pump breast milk for them ahead of time—you can rest assured about that," Alison said as she walked over to the sofa and sat down.
Her high-necked, knee-length dress made her look even taller and slimmer.
"But Mr. Winston, let's get back to the conversation you and Aidan were having earlier. Is there something you're hiding from me—something you don't want Aidan to tell me?"
Jack narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze fixed on her high collar.
When he left that morning, he was certain his masterpiece would prevent her from leaving the villa today.
Unexpectedly, she showed up just as he arrived at YD.
He wouldn't admit anything until he knew exactly how much she knew.
"Nothing," he said with a faint smile.
"Really, nothing?" Alison poured herself a cup of coffee.
The aroma instantly filled the office and made everyone feel refreshed.
"Actually, I came to discuss a large plot of land in the southern part of the city with Aidan. Buying and developing the land is a bit too much for me to handle alone." Jack began to make up an excuse.
"Aidan, is that really the case?" Alison turned her gaze toward Aidan.
"Yes, that plot of land is too large. Jack, even with YD on board, I don't think we'd be able to handle it. If necessary, we'll need help from our eldest brother as well. It's been a long time since Aunt Stephen returned to the country, hasn't it?" Aidan replied.
"All right, I'll talk to my older brother about it later. Everything's fine on your end, right?" Jack asked.
"No," Aidan replied.
Alison winced at the sight of his wrinkled clothes. "Aidan, I know Lucia's departure hit you hard, but it's been so long now. You should at least pull yourself together and act like a normal person. Look at the state you're in..."
She stood up, walked over to him, grabbed his arm, and led him toward the bathroom.
She pressed him against the mirror. "Look at yourself. You're a mess. Anyone who didn't know better would think you slept on the streets last night. Couldn't you have shaved and put on clean clothes before heading out this morning?"
"Okay, I'll shave and change tomorrow," Aidan promised.
"I thought you kept a change of clothes in this office," Alison said as she opened the closets to look inside.
She opened all three closets, but found not a single item of clothing inside. "Where did they all go?"
Just then, a voice came from outside.
It was the secretary Jack had just called in. "Ma'am, the CEO took all those clothes. After he changed, he didn't bring any new ones to the office, so there aren't any left here…"
"Oh, I see."
Alison turned and headed back to the office.
Jack was still sitting in the chair across from Aidan.
He leaned back in his chair and watched Alison return with a cold, piercing gaze.
She had never prepared work clothes for him these past few days, which left him feeling uneasy.
Alison walked over to Jack's side of the desk and picked up the phone from Aidan's desk.
Back when Lucia was around, Alison often called her, so she knew Aidan's home phone number by heart.
She dialed the number right away and asked the nanny to prepare several sets of clothes.
The moment the nanny answered, she seemed unusually agitated, as if she'd finally found someone to confide in. "Ma'am, you've finally called. Ever since my mistress passed away, my master hasn't had a proper meal. He comes home drunk every day and leaves in the morning without getting ready. As a servant, I can't really say anything. If you're with him, please try to talk some sense into him." Even though the mistress is gone, we still have the young master. You can't take care of him forever, can you?"
Alison listened patiently to the other person's outpouring, then soothed her, "I understand. I'll talk to him. Okay, get the clothes ready."
"Sure thing," the nanny replied cheerfully.
After hanging up, Alison told the secretary, "Send a driver to the CEO's house to pick up the ten sets of clothes that have been prepared. If the CEO comes to work like this again, call me or let Mr. Alexander know. I'm sure he wouldn't be happy to see this."
After finishing his morning routine, Aidan emerged.
"Alison, Grandpa was at the office yesterday. Please don't disturb him again. I'll take care of things from here on out," he said.
"Take a good look at yourself. You look pretty scary."
"Got it."
Alison shook her head in exasperation.
She had barely sat back down on the sofa when the phone on Aidan's desk rang.
He picked it up. "Hello?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end.
As he listened, Aidan turned to Alison. "I need to check with Alison about this. If she's willing, I have no objections."
"What's this about, anyway?" Before Aidan could finish, Jack snatched the phone from him.
Alison knew exactly what was going on.
She hadn't expected the young woman from the administration department to act so quickly.
Perhaps the German-language manager position in the International Trade Department had been vacant for too long, and they were desperate to fill it.
"No, I don't agree. You'd better find someone else," Jack said.
Watching him hang up, Alison grew even more furious. "Aidan, are you or Jack in charge of YD's operations?"
"It's me."
"Fine. I'll ask you one thing. I'm taking the German manager position in the international trade department, whether you agree or not." She pressed on.
Aidan raised his head, first casting a detached glance at Jack, then fixing his gaze on Alison. "How are Lyla and Tyler doing now?"
