Chapter 88
Terrence's face was full of mockery, and I knew this was specifically aimed at me. And this definitely had something to do with Jane.
I raised my eyebrows slightly and said with a smile, "So do you really think you're that useful at the Johnson Group?"
Terrence lifted his head arrogantly, "How am I not useful? I just haven't entered the Johnson Group yet. Once I get in, I'll definitely be more useful than you women, and definitely more useful than you!"
I was speechless. Terrence seemed to have some issues with his brain.
Seeing that I hadn't said anything, Terrence probably thought I had nothing to say and continued arrogantly, "If you know what's good for you, break off your engagement with Michael and leave the Johnson Group. Otherwise, if you cause any irreparable losses to the Johnson Group, you'll regret it!"
I turned to look at Jane.
"Ms. Ross, what do you think of what Mr. Wheeler said?"
Jane knew my abilities and knew my situation at the Johnson Group. When I asked her, she naturally didn't want to speak well of me and waved her hand somewhat reluctantly.
"How would I know? But since Michael is willing to give work to Ms. Smith, Ms. Smith's work ability should be fine."
Although she said this, Terrence obviously didn't understand the implication.
"What ability could she have? She's just a woman!"
I laughed coldly. Jane didn't continue this topic but instead wanted to avoid it.
I pressed on, staring at Terrence and asking, "Do you know how much profit I've brought to the Johnson Group since I joined?"
Terrence: "What profit? The Johnson Group is so big that even if profits increase, how is that related to you? Don't brag about yourself. People just give you some respect because of Michael!"
"Really? You're an outsider, so, normally, you don't understand the Johnson family's affairs."
I didn't want to argue with this fool. Just then, I saw David and Michael appear together.
David waved at me. When I walked over, David introduced me to the people around him.
"This is my son's wife, Nancy. She's quite something. She hasn't been at the Johnson Group long, but she's brought in quite a few projects."
David was quite satisfied with me and smiled as he spoke.
But Terrence couldn't help muttering quietly, "How impressive could she be? She's just a woman. Why put her on such a pedestal? She's useless!"
Before, Terrence had only said these things to me, but now these words reached David and Michael's ears, and the elders with David naturally heard them too.
Everyone looked at each other. Michael's face darkened. He walked to my side and protected me behind him.
"Useless? You've worked at the Johnson Group before. In your first month at the Johnson Group, you caused a loss of ten million dollars. Is that your usefulness?"
Terrence's face changed.
"I had just entered the Johnson Group, so I needed training."
"Then go train at your own family's company." Michael continued coldly, "Now, please leave immediately."
Terrence naturally didn't want to leave. He turned to look at Jane, hoping she would say a few words for him.
But Jane had already distanced herself from him. He could only see her holding up her wine glass.
After Terrence left, Jane approached me.
"I'm really sorry. Terrence is immature. Ms. Smith, please don't hold it against him."
I'd heard this kind of talk many times and naturally knew Jane was trying to distance herself from this matter.
I smiled, "Whether he's immature or someone has been whispering in his ear, who knows?"
Jane coughed awkwardly twice.
And I had already brushed past her, reaching out to hold Michael's hand.
There seemed to be a burning gaze behind me. I smiled.
"Mr. Johnson, your admirer is quite difficult to deal with. But... who is Terrence?"
When I asked this, Michael naturally told me everything.
Terrence was a waste. A year ago, at his father's urging, Terrence had worked at the Johnson Group, but unfortunately, after just one month of work, he caused losses for the Johnson Group and was kicked out by Michael.
"His dad, Sawyer Wheeler, is a senior executive at the Johnson Group and holds shares in the company."
I was a bit confused, "His dad's last name isn't Johnson either, so why..."
"It's my aunt's shares. After my aunt passed away, her shares went to Terrence and his father."
After hearing this, I understood.
But from the looks of it now, both Terrence and Sawyer were ambitious.
During the party, Jane kept trying to chat with me, but I directly refused each time.
Finally, Jane left, but the expression on her face didn't look good.
After the party, I got busy again. To be with me, Michael moved directly into my apartment.
Michael now had my apartment fingerprint access, so I couldn't kick him out even if I wanted to.
Bronte was still living here, so we often ran into each other. Sometimes when Michael wasn't around, I would take Bronte to work with me.
After a day of work, I was waiting tiredly for Michael in the underground parking garage when he suddenly sent me a message.
"Nancy, I have to go on a business trip. Go home first. I'll video call you tonight. Be good and stay far away from John!"
It seemed Michael still hadn't let go of John.
I sighed helplessly.
I relaxed at home watching a TV show. When I messaged Michael again, I didn't get a reply for a long time.
Around eleven at night, when I was about to go to bed, I thought about it and called Michael.
But it showed that Michael's phone was off.
My brows furrowed immediately.
There was no reason for Michael's phone to be off. I was about to call Michael's assistant, Chase, when, coincidentally, Chase called me at that moment.
"Ms. Smith, something's happened. Mr. Johnson is missing!"
My heart jumped, and I had a very bad feeling. "How could he suddenly go missing? What happened before? Where did he go?"
I asked several questions in a row, and Chase answered each one seriously.
"Ms. Smith, we suddenly had a car accident on our way to a meeting. Mr. Johnson was injured. While waiting for the police to arrive, Mr. Johnson suddenly disappeared."
"Call the police and check the surveillance!" I said without hesitation, then got up to get dressed and leave.
I definitely had to go see what was going on.
At the same time, my phone received a message from an unknown number.
When I saw this message, my face changed dramatically.
This was someone luring me out!
Chase told me the address. As soon as I got in the car, I noticed something wasn't quite right.
I checked the car's brakes and found no problems. I gritted my teeth. No matter what, I had to get to the scene as soon as possible to find out what happened to Michael.
Michael was on a business trip in the neighboring city, so I chose to drive directly. Not long after I started driving, two vans sneakily followed behind me. They flanked me from the front and back, clearly trying to force me to stop.
