Chapter 70
Hearing my words, Amelia seemed to be thinking about whether this was feasible. Finally, she nodded.
"Okay! In that case, I'll arrange for you to meet him. But Nancy, don't worry too much. Who knows if what he said is true or false? Let me take you to some other places to check!" Amelia said this, but the meaning behind her words clearly showed she believed the fortune teller. She was just trying to comfort me, which honestly wasn't very helpful.
But if she really wanted to break up Michael and me because of this nonsense...
Thinking of this, I looked at Michael, but I didn't see any worry on his face. He really didn't take this matter seriously.
However, he had other emotions.
We went upstairs together, and Michael followed me into the room.
"Michael, your mom is here," I quickly said, afraid he might do something.
Michael rested his head on my shoulder, wrinkled his nose, and said somewhat unhappily, "So what if she's here? It's nothing special. But Nancy, do you believe what Jane said? You actually want to meet him again! Are you thinking about going back to John? John is no longer the Brown family heir and can't give you a good life anymore!"
The jealousy on Michael's face was very obvious as he spoke.
Hearing his sarcastic words, I sighed. "Really? But if I truly like someone, just being with them makes me happy."
This sentence ignited Michael's anger.
Michael stared at me intently. I could see the fury burning in his eyes, as if it was about to consume me.
Just before Michael could make a move, I said without hesitation, "But the person I like most is you, so no matter what your status is, I'll be with you. Just being together is what I want!"
My eyes fell on Michael, and after hearing these words, he finally smiled as he looked at me.
He pulled me directly into his arms and said with a smile, "I knew it, Nancy, you're the best!"
I finally managed to send Michael back to his room, and I was also thinking about what day to arrange the meeting.
I happened to remember there was a charity gala to attend, so I simply discussed with Michael about inviting the fortune teller to join us at the charity banquet.
When Michael learned about this, his expression didn't change much. He just nodded to show he understood.
Seeing him like this, I quickly moved closer. "What's wrong?"
There was a knock at the door. I got up from Michael, and his face darkened. When the assistant came in and looked at Michael, he obviously noticed that Michael was in a bad mood and trembled.
"Mr. Johnson, this is the contract you need to sign. Would you like to take a look?"
The assistant handed a document to Michael. After Michael took it, he glanced at it, signed it, and handed it back to the assistant. The whole operation was very smooth. The assistant, as if saved, turned and left directly.
I deliberately made my voice high-pitched and moved closer to Michael playfully, saying with a smile, "Michael, don't be angry."
Michael snorted coldly, "Angry? How would I dare be angry with you? Besides, our relationship is something you find very shameful, isn't it!"
After I figured out why Michael was angry, I quietly moved closer.
"But I just don't want everyone to misunderstand our relationship. Otherwise, they'll all think I'm your mistress, that I only got into the company because of you. I want to earn my place in the company through my own abilities, so I can be your wife!"
Hearing me say this, Michael's anger seemed to subside a bit.
Three days later, Michael accompanied me to the charity gala, along with Jane and that fortune teller.
This was my first time seeing this person at the charity gala.
He carried himself like some otherworldly master, and when he saw Michael and me, he didn't even bother to greet us.
Jane stayed by the fortune teller's side. If he didn't look greedy when seeing jewelry and lustful when seeing beautiful women, I might actually think they were quite proper.
I held Michael's arm. Jane was smiling, as if the incident where she tried to drive a wedge between Michael and me had never happened, greeting us warmly.
I naturally smiled back, though not very warmly.
Jane introduced the person beside her to me, "Ms. Smith, this is Mr. Parker. His abilities are beyond question! Didn't you have something to ask him before? Feel free to ask. I believe Mr. Parker will definitely give you a satisfactory answer."
I nodded and held down Michael, who was clearly very unhappy beside me.
When they heard about this Lawrence Parker, quite a few people came over to pay their respects. Jane introduced everyone one by one, while Michael and I were pushed aside.
"I'm really fine!" Seeing Michael's mood getting worse, I quickly said.
"They're deliberately targeting you! I'll have someone send them out!" Michael's expression was gloomy. I knew that if I didn't stop him, he would really do such a thing.
I coughed helplessly and quickly held Michael back.
"Alright, alright, will you listen to me?" I said, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
No matter how unwilling Michael was, he would still give me some face.
Looking at me, he said through gritted teeth, "That Jane just can't stand to see us happy. I'm going to kick her out!"
"You dare!" I raised my eyebrows and stared at Michael until he backed down.
"I just don't want you to be wronged..."
I quickly grabbed him, "Alright, you should trust me. How could I possibly be wronged for no reason?"
Since they were people I invited, Jane and Lawrence naturally sat at the same table with us.
Lawrence had just been flattered by people, so naturally, he was feeling smug now.
When he sat down, his back was even straighter than before.
I asked with a smile, "Mr. Parker, you're good at fortune telling?"
Lawrence nodded, "Of course!"
I continued asking, "My fiancé's mother consulted you and you said my fiancé and I aren't compatible. I wonder if you'd be willing to explain in detail. If you're willing, I'll make sure you're well compensated!"
I placed a bank card on the table.
When Lawrence saw the bank card, his eyes immediately lit up.
Beside him, Jane coughed, deliberately reminding him.
Reminded by Jane, Lawrence refused. "No way!"
