Chapter 41

Chapter 41

When Michael heard my question, his eyes flickered away for a moment, but quickly returned to normal.

Even though he hid this detail well, I still caught it.

I became more and more certain that something was off with him.

Michael smiled and handed me his phone, speaking openly. "Just some things to handle, nothing major. If you're curious, you can look for yourself. The password is your birthday."

I looked at the phone he was offering, but didn't take it right away.

Whatever he was investigating, we needed to have some trust between us.

I pushed the phone back to him, acting casual. "It's fine, I was just asking. You don't need to explain so much to me."

Seeing that I wouldn't take the phone, Michael ruffled my hair, comforting me gently. "It's just a small matter. You'll find out eventually."

Seeing him being all mysterious like this, I grew even more curious about what he was investigating, but I didn't press further.

The next day, right after I finished helping Michael with breakfast, he handed me a file.

I looked at the file in front of me, curiosity showing in my eyes, and took it. "What's this?"

Michael smiled and explained unhurriedly. "The thing you were curious about yesterday - the answer is in here. Open it and see."

Confused, I followed his suggestion and looked through the file.

That's when I discovered that what Michael had given me was information about the three thugs who tried to hurt me yesterday.

He had even tracked down the person behind it all.

I never would have imagined that the person who wanted to harm me was actually a shareholder of the Garcia Group.

I kept searching my memory for any interactions I'd had with this person, but couldn't find an answer after thinking for a long time.

I had no idea why this person would hold such a grudge against me, even going so far as to hire people to hurt me.

"I called yesterday to have Jeffrey investigate this. Now that it's all clear, there's no need to keep it from you." Seeing the confusion in my eyes, Michael voluntarily explained what happened yesterday.

I flipped through the file and finally found the answer at the back.

It turned out that this shareholder of the Garcia Group resented me simply because I had once rejected his son's project.

Seeing this reason, I found it truly ridiculous.

Just because of such a small thing, he actually hired people to hurt me.

My expression gradually turned cold, and I couldn't help but complain. "What a petty person. His son is useless, the project he brought was completely unusable, and now I'm not even allowed to reject it?"

Seeing my displeasure, Michael took my hand in his, playing with it casually. "Don't worry, it's just a small matter. I've already handled it for you."

"What did you do?"

Hearing Michael's tone, I couldn't help but ask.

Michael spoke casually. "Just snatched a few projects, gave them a little warning. Hopefully they'll get the message."

Looking at Michael's face, I felt for the first time his ruthless side in the business world.

And he was doing all this just to stand up for me.

I felt both shaken and reassured at the same time.

"Michael, thank you." I said gratefully.

"Nancy, if you really want to thank me, give me some benefits in advance." Michael deliberately teased me, his eyes fixed on my lips.

I knew what he was thinking.

I stood up and moved closer to him, bringing my lips near his.

Feeling my initiative, Michael didn't hesitate at all, his large hand directly gripping my waist.

His warm breath sprayed on the tip of my nose.

"Kiss me," Michael said in a husky voice, his eyes taking on a dreamy quality.

Without thinking much, I cupped his face and kissed him.

The moment I touched his lips, he immediately held the back of my head, deepening the kiss and not letting me pull away.

At noon, when I personally brought Michael lunch, I happened to see two people in the hospital room.

I looked through the glass window and saw a familiar yet strange figure, and couldn't help but frown.

I didn't expect Bianca to show up at this time.

And from the looks of things inside, it seemed like Bianca was pestering Michael.

Seeing this, I didn't interrupt directly, but watched through the glass for a while.

I saw that Michael was clearly impatient, but Bianca acted like she couldn't see it, still taking care of him and trying to make conversation on her own.

Michael's reaction was very flat, not even giving her an extra glance.

Seeing the timing was right, I knocked on the door.

Without waiting for anyone inside to answer, I pushed the door open and walked in.

Seeing me arrive, Michael's eyes immediately lit up, and he quickly spoke. "Nancy, you finally came today."

Michael's attitude toward me was completely different from his attitude toward Bianca.

Seeing his obvious difference in treatment, Bianca was unhappy, but she didn't dare trouble Michael, so she could only direct her anger at me.

Bianca looked me up and down, deliberately speaking sarcastically. "Ms. Smith, you really keep a tight watch on Michael, as if you're afraid someone will steal him away. You're busy with work in the morning, and at noon, you still have to bring him lunch. You really don't mind the trouble."

Hearing Bianca's words, I shrugged indifferently and went along with what she said. "That's right, I definitely need to keep a close eye on him. Otherwise, if someone with ulterior motives steals him away, what would I do?"

As I spoke, I deliberately directed my gaze at Bianca.

Bianca naturally knew I was talking about her. Her expression changed drastically, and she said angrily. "Nancy, what do you mean by that? Do you think I'm deliberately trying to seduce Michael? He and I grew up together. I knew him first!"

Every time I encountered Bianca, her logic always managed to shock me.

Regardless of whether she knew Michael first, he was now my fiancé, and any remotely normal person would know to keep their distance.

But Bianca wasn't exactly normal.

I didn't want to argue with her, so I just walked around her and put today's lunch on the table.

Seeing that I was ignoring her, Bianca got angry and said arrogantly. "What's your attitude? I'm talking to you. Didn't you hear me?"

But Michael frowned, speaking impatiently. "Bianca, I'm only tolerating you out of respect for your brother. If you know what's good for you, leave now."

Bianca's face immediately fell, and she looked at Michael with hurt in her eyes. "Michael, are you kicking me out? I just wanted to spend more time with you."

Even though Bianca put on a pitiful appearance, Michael still didn't look at her properly, and even showed more annoyance. "Since you know I'm kicking you out, then get lost. Stop being an eyesore here."
