Chapter 98 Buffalo Skulls
ANGELICA'S POV
“How are you feeling this morning, Mi Vida?” Ericson asked me as soon as I opened my eyes.
“Good,” I said, smiling.
He kissed my nose with a soft smile, and I moaned with a yawn before stretching my hands.
“What time is it?” I asked.
“It's 7 in the morning. Get freshened up. I have made your favorite stuffed buns,” Ericson said.
I smiled and got down from the bed, immediately wearing the soft plush slippers they bought for me.
It has been two weeks since I found out I was pregnant. Things were getting back into place with time.
I paused and looked into the mirror when I felt I saw someone else's reflection, sighing when it was just the curtains moving.
This has been going on ever since I saw that demon king.
Though, because of the dreamcatcher and the voodoo doll magic that Xyla performed on the house, I wasn't seeing the demon king anymore, it didn't mean I wasn't catching a glimpse of odd things, like the reflection of a dead baby and rotting flesh here and there.
Dylan assured me they were just delusions that the demon king was using to break me, and it wouldn't do me any wrong, but my heart still couldn't help but get scared for my baby.
“Leader, you are awake,” Xyla said, walking into my room. She was the witch who agreed to be my nanny for the entire time until I delivered this baby, and this situation with the demon king was over.
“I am. I'll eat, and then we can go for the walk,” I said, and Xyla nodded in understanding before leaving the room.
“Go, get ready,” Ericson pecked my lips before leaving.
I walked into the bathroom and checked my reflection in the mirror.
I don't know if it was just me, but I felt like, rather than becoming thick like most women do during pregnancy, I was getting thinner each day.
Dylan and Ericson said nothing was wrong since I didn't even lose a pound, but I wasn't gaining any either. And with the amount of food I was gobbling, I don't know how they don't see the problem.
I could clearly see the dark circles under my eyes, and it wasn't just a lack of sleep. I was sleeping 9-10 hours, something I didn't do even when I was sick.
After having breakfast with Ericson and Dylan, Xyla brought me to the forests of the pack to keep my powers happy and replenish them in nature; after all, the elements were my strength.
The pack had mostly recovered from the mini-war. Now, everybody knew I was the twin alphas’ mate and Luna of the pack.
The council members even know of my birth lineage since they were responsible for keeping records on hierarchy for all the alphas and wolves, and they would need it for the baby in my womb.
“You look exceptionally weak today. Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?” Xyla asked as we walked around the pack borders.
I paused and looked at the witch with my pupils dilated.
“Can you really see the difference? You can tell I am getting weaker, right?” I asked, hoping someone would understand what I had been feeling, and Xyla nodded.
“I can. Do they not see it? This pregnancy is taking a toll on you,” she said.
As soon as I heard it, the hope inside me diminished immediately.
The witches have been trying to talk me out of this decision since they knew this baby would drain most of my mana, and the worst part is that it won't even come to the witch kingdom. As the heir of the alphas, he would stay in the werewolf kingdom.
“I know where you are taking this. And I made my point clear the last time you raised it. It's not up for discussion,” I said, increasing my pace to create some distance between us.
However, I had only moved a few steps when I saw the scene before me, and a scream left my mouth.
“Aaaa!” I screamed, stumbling back, my heart pounding against my chest as Xyla held my hand to support and comfort me.
The sound of loud howling echoed in my head, and the pack and I saw a few wolves rushing to the area we were walking in.
Due to the pregnancy and this demon king situation, the alphas had urged me never to put my mind barrier up whenever I was out of the house, and I am sure they felt my fear and scream through their systems because I could feel them rushing in my direction.
“ANGELICA!” Dylan and Ericson ran towards me, holding my hands and checking for any wounds.
“Are you okay?” They asked, but their voices just sounded like distant echoes as I kept looking at the scene before me.
Around fifty skulls of buffalo, all freshly cut, were placed right before us, their blood still dripping from their heads.
There was no sight of their bodies, just the skulls with their eyes gouged out.
Just looking at them like this made me… I pushed Dylan away before running to the side and vomiting up the breakfast I had eaten.
Ericson patted my back as I doubled over in pain due to the vomiting, my heart racing uncontrollably.
"Shit." Ericson quickly picked me up bridal style, and I closed my eyes, the image not going out of my head.
It was as if those dead buffalo could look straight through my soul, even without any eyes, and were blaming me for what happened to them.
“Doctor Sarah, you need to check her.” Ericson placed me on the bed, but as soon as he did that, I felt my body jerk to the side, and if he hadn't been there to hold me, I was sure I would've fallen on the ground.
“Her emotions are unstable. Please step back, Alpha, or her powers might unleash into the environment and hurt your people. We need to bring her out. She is feeling restless in the hospital. Forest is her home." I could hear Xyla speaking in the distance.
I felt Ericson pick me again while I felt helpless, unable to move. I don't know what was happening.
I wasn't so weak as to fall and become unable to move just because I saw something gruesome. It was as if some kind of magic was binding me.
Something external was stopping me from moving.
I concentrated on the sky once they made me lie down in the clearing, trying to absorb energy from the nature around me.
I took a deep breath, and it wasn't long before I could finally move, my powers strengthening in nature.
That fucking bastard is testing our patience. I want revenge. He is risking my baby's health! Cecilia shouted angrily in my head, and I knew she was angry because we both knew who was behind this action.
With this, the demon king gave us an indirect wanting of... wait... something didn't add up.
No. This wasn't his doing. Alchemist clearly stated that the demon king or his people wouldn't enter the pack's periphery until he was alive, because he had vowed to protect me.
If he wasn't the one who brought those skulls here in the pack, there was no way these highly efficient wolves wouldn't have smelled the blood if anyone had brought it inside.
It only left me with one suspect.
I saw Xyla’s face come into my vision, and before she could place her hand on my forehead, I held it, stopping her from performing any ritual.
“Why?” I asked her. I saw her body freeze as she looked at me with wide eyes.
“I…” she stuttered.
I sat straight, placing my hand on my head to stop the dizzy feeling before I grabbed Xyla's cloak and pulled her head close.
“Only the truth, Xyla. Tell me what's going on,” I said.
“You don't know about it. You don't fucking know anything!” Xyla suddenly screamed.
I looked at her with an arched brow while the alphas quickly shielded me behind them, ready to protect me.
“I am not here to hurt her. I am here to fucking save her. But… if you had even once come to the Coven's base, you would've known what's going on,” Xyla said, tears streaming down her face.
I took a deep breath. It was hard to decide whether I should trust her after what she tried to pull, but for some reason, my inner voice, my gut feeling, was telling me it was something I should go and see.
Besides, as the leader of the coven, it was my duty to check it nonetheless.
“Then show me,” I said, standing angrily.
“Even I would like to see what's so wrong that pushed you to show me such a grave scene by committing such a sin,” I said.
“We are coming,” the alphas said, not wanting to leave me alone with the witches since her intentions were questionable, and I nodded before looking at Xyla.
“Let's go,” I said.
