Chapter 72 Broken Trust
ANGELICA'S POV
I looked for the brothers everywhere to share the happy news, feeling strangely tired.
They were not in their offices, and when I called Zishan to ask about them, they weren't in the forests either.
Aiden told me they went outside the pack for a meeting with another alpha, with whom they were trying to ally.
I looked at the time. It was only 8 pm. So why was I feeling so tired and sleepy out of nowhere? Almost as if someone was draining the energy out of me.
Shaking my head, I stood from the sofa to rush out when I saw the twins' car parked outside the house.
Don't. A voice inside me echoed.
I furrowed my brows and looked around before taking a deep breath. Right. How could I see anyone when the voice was coming from inside me? It will definitely take me some time to get used to it.
I stepped forward again.
Don't go. Don't tell them about Felicia. It will only turn things wrong. Your heart will break. The voice inside me said.
This time, I was definitely annoyed.
“Don't tell me what to do or not to do. I don't really think you are reliable. If you hadn't stopped me in the afternoon, I would've stopped Felicia and brought her back to the pack. How happy the twin alphas would've become,” I glared at no one in particular since I couldn't really look at my inner voice.
Without wasting another second, I rushed outside to tell them the good news.
They turned to me with big smiles as soon as they looked at me.
“You look thrilled, Angel.” Ericsson was the first one to step forward and hold my hand before pulling me closer to them.
I bobbed my head up and down in excitement.
“I am. You won't believe who I met today in the mall,” I said.
Dylan chuckled at my enthusiasm and placed his hand on my hair, caressing them soothingly.
“Who?” They asked in unison.
“Felicia. I met her. She was in the mall. She isn't dead, Ericson. Your sister is alive,” I said with a big smile on my face, hoping they would become happy too.
However, they didn't.
Their expressions froze for a second. I saw multiple emotions pass through their eyes, and happiness was not one of them.
Dylan removed his hand from my hair, his face stiff. I shifted my gaze to Ericson, who left my hand and stepped back.
There was anger, pain, sadness, frustration, and irritation in his eyes, all the wrong emotions that I didn't expect, except for happiness and trust, which I had hoped to see in those beautiful pairs of eyes.
Realization dawned upon me.
They didn't believe me.
The twins thought I was lying, that I was perhaps making up things.
“I am not lying. I saw her for real. She bumped into me when I was out shopping for dresses. At first I couldn't recognise her, but then I went inside your office to look for the familiar photo and—”
“Shut it, Angel!” Ericsson’s cold voice made me jerk in my place, and I looked at him in horror, before his eyes softened a little.
“Please. Let's not talk about it.” He said, and without waiting for a reply, he turned and left.
I looked at Dylan, hoping he would understand me, at least try to believe in me, because I didn't see anything wrong.
“Stop going into our office, Angel. You are our mate, but we deserve some privacy too,” Dylan's words were like a cold smack on my face.
It felt like someone poured a bucket of ice on my head, leaving me trembling and unsure of what I was supposed to do.
“I am not lying, Dylan. At least you—”
“Enough! We saw our sister's body. Do you think it's fun?” He snapped, his eyes darkening in controlled anger, making me feel struck.
“Your words are not nice, Dylan. Do you think I'll joke about something like that?” Tears welled in my eyes that I wiped furiously.
They shattered my heart. They were ready to accept me as their Luna, announce to the world that I was their better half, but was this the kind of trust they had in me?
It was heartbreaking for them. I understand that. She was a family member to them, and I respect that. But they could at least head me out and check…
I even went ahead and checked through CCTV footage.
The mall security didn't give me a copy of the footage that I could show to the alphas, but they could go and check, right?
But how? They didn't even give me a chance to explain myself.
Dylan turned and left, not answering me.
Zishan looked at me with pity.
“Please don't take it to heart, Luna. Felicia has always been a sensitive topic in the pack. No one is allowed to even talk about her, let alone mention her before them,” Zishan explained.
He said some soothing words, like how he believed me and would go and get the CCTV footage the first thing in the morning if I said so.
However, none of them calmed my heart. After all, the people I expected the most trust from turned away from me.
I didn't have a victim mentality, but I was going through a lot, too. I was feeling many changes inside me that were confusing, contradicting, frustrating, and sometimes scary, but I wasn't going around stopping people from acting normal around me.
I shook my head.
I told you it would be a bad decision. My inner voice found the perfect time to mock me, and I smiled through my tears.
Why? Because I couldn't deny that she was right when she guessed it all along.
My heart indeed broke at their coldness, but what hurt the most wasn't their negligence or inability to believe the truth, but the way they thought I was probably joking about that.
Was I that kind of person in their hearts?
No. They loved me a lot. They must've said those words despite anger and frustration. I nodded.
I looked at the house, no longer feeling like going inside.
With a sigh, I walked towards the forests instead.
As I continued walking towards the lake, which was one of my favourite places in this Pack, I felt someone watching me, walking behind me.
Knowing that no one harmful would enter the pack without sending an alert blaring through the borders, I sat on the large stone, looking at my reflection in the still water, a complete contradiction to the turmoil in my heart.
“You are hurt,” Someone finally said, and I looked to my right, where Alchemist stood, his green eyes boring into mine.
“Did you see everything?” I asked.
He shook his head and told me how he could feel my sadness leaking through the bangles, and since he had nothing better to do, he came to check up on me.
I looked at the bangles that were indeed turning a dirty shade of violet, something I didn't notice earlier.
“I keep hearing myself even when I am not speaking,” I looked at him, changing the topic.
What was supposed to be between me and the alphas should stay like that. I didn't want a third person to get involved when it wasn't that serious, either.
The alchemist looked at me for a few seconds, his penetrating gaze almost feeling like he could read every thought in my head, feel every turmoil that my thoughts were in.
“It’s your powers’ voice. I told you about it,” he said before he stepped forward, stopping and looking at me as if seeking some kind of permission.
I nodded at him, and he extended his hand before placing his thumb between my brows.
“Wach,” he whispered softly, and it was almost as if someone had shone a torch inside my head. My eyes closed instinctively, and I saw a blinding light through my closed eyes, making me want to stumble back.
However, he held my hand, stopping me in my place.
After what felt like an eternity of feeling like I would go blind, he finally removed his hand, urging me to open my eyes.
I followed his instructions, blinking in surprise as I noticed how much my vision had improved. It was almost as if I could see everything with a magnifying glass. My senses were heightening.
“What did you do?” I asked.
He smiled.
“Awakened something inside you, just a little,” He whispered before he told me not to worry about the wolves and focus on myself before he vanished into thin air.
Wait. He said he awakened something inside me, just a little? A little? If the little could have such drastic effects, what would happen if I awakened it all?
Trust me. You wouldn't want that to happen. My inner voice spoke, her voice much clearer now, and I saw a spirit floating inside my head wearing a satin gown. Her face was unclear, but her voice and smile were clear.
But why? That's my destiny, isn't it? I asked.
My inner voice smiled. I thought she would say something, but she didn't. I waited for a few minutes, but she didn't.
It made me wonder, what was really my destiny? I thought, before looking at the bangles, that my thoughts shifted to my twin mates and how they had acted tonight, making me sigh.
I was still disappointed, but no longer as sad and heartbroken.
