Chapter 109 - Violet
I quick stepped through the hall and to the door. I slammed the witch blocking my way into the wall. “Grab him.” I said to the weres next to him. The did as I said. Eli was a good fifty yards away from the building, slowly getting up. I extended my powers and slammed into him again. Before my magic could hit him, he countered and threw a fire ball at me. I dodged.
I could hear screaming coming from the dining hall. People were running out of the building, trying to find safety. I wasn’t sure what was happening, but I needed to focus on taking Eli out. The others would fall once he fell.
“My, my, my.” Eli crooned. “Your powers have grown since last I saw you.” He took a few steps toward me. “You know, it’s too bad that I had to take out that old bat in the process. She may have been old, but she still was a familiar witch. She could have been useful.”
Rage boiled in my veins. I screamed and threw everything I had at Eli. The dark sky lit up as if it were noon on a sunny day. I could feel my powers rising, I knew Simon was close, offering me his energy. Eli’s face dropped as he tried to outrun the blast. The flames licked at his heels, wrapping around his foot, and squeezing until a pleasant crunch sent a scream from his lungs.
Wolves were now running around the backyard, fighting witches. The witches were outnumbered, but Eli was using Blood Magic. I could feel it. Jeffers busted through the wall. He was followed by three large wolves. No doubt, Tristan, Luis, and James. Jeffers was bloodied and limping. He was going down, but he wouldn’t go down without a fight.
Simon was to my right, he let Remus out. His eyes were glowing purple as I’m sure mine were.
A yelp came from behind me. I did a quick turn and saw that one of the younger guards got cut by a blade. I needed to end this quickly.
Remus. I mind linked him.
Remus looked at me.
I’m going to do the same attack, but I want you to circle him. Can you go behind and grab his neck? Don’t kill him. I must bind him first or else the Blood Magic will be free.
Remus let out a huff in agreement. I conjured my power and let it ebb through me. With Remus by my side, we were going to take Eli down. Before I could project my power, someone screamed behind me.
I turned. Greta was running at me and jumped in front of a witch about to stab me with a large blade. Greta took it in the chest and fell to the ground, breathing heavy. Simon bit the witch’s neck and tossed it back and forth like a toy. Blood sprayed everywhere, hitting me in the face. He continued to pull at the neck until the witch’s head came off.
I caught Greta as she slowly slid to the ground. My heart fell, tears blurred my eyes. I heard a scream coming from across the yard. It was Jared, sprinting toward her. He was crying. He took her body and laid her on his legs as he rocked her back and forth.
I would have to mourn later. I brushed a hand across my cheek wiping the tears that were there. I turned back to Eli who was doing his best to stand up straight. A smile spread across his face. “Was that your friend?” he prodded.
I didn’t respond. I let the rage and hate fuel my power. It grew, the energy lifted me from the ground. I threw it at him. The white flames were larger this time. They engulfed the entire yard, blinding those still fighting. Eli’s eyes grew in shock. He tried to throw a line of power at it, but it was futile against mine. Mine was stronger and he knew it. This was the end.
The white flames enveloped him, and Remus pounced on him from behind, holding him in place by the neck. The flames continued to lick at Eli, pulling him down to the ground. I walked up to him. My magic and Remus holding him in place, kneeling before me. Eli tried to struggle free but realized it was futile.
“Did your friend die?” He mocked.
I let my magic circle around him tighter. He yelped out in pain. “You can let go, Remus.” Remus slowly released Eli’s neck, just in case he would try and attack. Eli remained unmoving on the ground.
“How did you do it?” Eli asked, defeated.
“How did I do what?”
“How did you figure out to overcome my Blood Magic.”
“My mate and soon to be grandmother-in-law showed me.”
“Impossible.” He said. “That’s impossible. A stupid dog couldn’t figure out how to overcome me.”
“That’s enough out of you.” I twisted my magic around his arms, legs, torso, and mouth. He laid there staring at me from the ground. The hate emanating from his eyes did nothing, he knew he was done.
When he was securely held in place, I turned to see the damage. A happy Tristan was yelling and holding up the head of Jeffers. The frozen, sharp toothed smile he normally wore graced his face even in death. Ten witches were left alive, begging for their lives. They screamed that they didn’t know what they were doing because of what Eli did to them with Blood Magic. I would deal with them later. I know Simon would want to question them and see how we would proceed.
Wolves were scattered about, some had gashes on them, others nuzzling against those that were injured. Only one lay dead…Greta.
I ran over and looked at her. She was pale, eyes were staring at me, with no fire behind them like they normally did. I let my tears fall. I knelt next to Jared and touched her arm.
“Don’t touch her!” He yelled at me. “She died because of you.”
I let out a sob. He was right. She saved my life by giving up hers. Seeing her broke my heart. Jared was crying next to her. His mate, his life, was dead.
“That’s part of the job, Jared.” Simon said behind me, he changed to human form. He found a pair of cut off shorts. “She was Violet’s Beta. She did her job.”
“Bring her back.” He spat at me. “You bring her back right, now!”
I took a breath and nodded. I could bring her back. I could bring her back like I did Toby. Toby wasn’t completely dead, and the shadows knew it. What did I have to offer to bring Greta back?
“I’ll bring her back.” I nodded. I quick stepped into the house, again up the stairs and then into my room. I looked around for the book. I needed the book. It was under the other book that taught me how to bind Eli. I glanced at myself in the mirror above the dresser. I was covered in blood and dirt. The dress twisted, showing my strapless bra.
It didn’t matter how I looked. The only thing that mattered now was getting Greta back. What would I sacrifice? They would want something big this time. I just had to make sure I was willing to give it.
I grabbed the book and quick stepped back to the lawn where Greta, Jared and Simon were. A small crowd was making their way around us. “I need everyone to step back, please.” I shouted to the crowd. They took a small step back.
I flipped the book to the resurrection spell, lifted my arms, and read out, “Bring back what was lost. Death to life. I beseech thee thy shadows, and restore they spirit. Ashes of death to living flesh.” I looked around but nothing happened. I read it louder.
The world around me became grey. The crowd was a mix of black and white. The four shadows lurked behind those in the crowd. “The familiar witch sssso eager to call ussss back.” The shadow in front of me hissed.
“I need your help.” I said to them.
