Chapter 564 I Choose Jeremy
Chapter 564 I Choose Jeremy
But then, they started arguing again about who would escort Nancy from home to the wedding venue the next day.
George stepped forward, his tone carrying the authority of the eldest brother. "I'm the oldest. This is my responsibility. What are you all arguing about?"
Jeremy kept his eyes down, ignoring his brothers' bickering.
To him, walking Nancy to the wedding car wasn't something he was interested in, especially given their less-than-pleasant history. He had no desire to join the fray.
Royce, anxious, moved closer. "Nancy and Elsie have been best friends since childhood. Elsie can't be the maid of honor because she's pregnant. If I escort Nancy, it would make up for Elsie's absence. Don't fight me on this."
Zachary wasn't backing down either. "You two are married with families. How do you have time for this? I'm single, so it's perfect for me. Maybe walking the bride will bring me some luck, and I can get married next year. Then Mom will stop nagging me."
The three men argued louder and louder, making Mary frown. "Stop it, all of you! You're giving me a headache. Why don't we let Nancy decide? Nancy, who do you want to escort you tomorrow?"
As soon as she finished speaking, three pairs of eyes turned to Nancy. George looked hopeful, Royce was earnest, and Zachary had a "pick me" look on his face.
Caught in a dilemma, Nancy's eyes drifted to the corner where Jeremy stood. An idea popped into her head, and she pointed at him. "I choose Jeremy."
The room fell silent, the air almost tangible.
Royce was the first to react, trying to persuade her. "Nancy, how can you choose him? Don't you remember how cold he always is to you? What if he deliberately delays tomorrow and embarrasses you at the wedding?"
Zachary quickly nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Nancy, don't be foolish! What if he stops halfway or drags his feet and messes up the schedule?"
George, though a bit disappointed, spoke up. "Nancy choosing Jeremy is fine. They've always been a bit distant. This is a good chance for them to get closer. We're family; we shouldn't have any rifts."
"Is that how you talk about your brother?" Jeremy's tone had a hint of irritation. "No matter what, Nancy is my sister. Even if I'm not the best, I wouldn't do anything to ruin her wedding."
He turned to Nancy, his ears turning slightly red. "Don't worry. I'll make sure to get you to the wedding car safely tomorrow."
Nancy couldn't help but smile at his rare awkwardness, her eyes curving into crescents. "Okay, I trust you."
With that, the matter was settled. Zachary pouted, clearly unhappy, but he didn't dare argue further. He stomped off to his room, kicking the carpet in frustration.
Mary looked at her children and smiled helplessly. "It's late. Everyone should get some sleep. Tomorrow's going to be a busy day."
At four in the morning, Nancy was woken by her alarm. She sat at her vanity as the makeup artist began her work.
Elsie, yawning, sat beside her, watching and complimenting. "Wow, Nancy, your skin is amazing. You're naturally beautiful. This must be the easiest job for the makeup artist."
The makeup artist, packing her kit, laughed. "Indeed, Ms. Taylor has great skin and features. Just a light base, some subtle eye makeup, and a bit of lipstick is all she needs. Honestly, I feel like I'm not doing much today."
Nancy blushed at the compliments, touching her face. "Stop it, you're making me embarrassed."
Just then, Susan walked in with sandwiches, hot milk, and a plate of fruit. "Eat something before you finish your makeup. Especially you, Nancy. The wedding schedule is packed, and you might not have time to eat properly. Get some energy now."
"Thanks, Susan." Nancy took a bite of the sandwich, feeling warm inside.
Elsie leaned over, eyeing the strawberries on the tray. "Susan, you're so thoughtful, even bringing Nancy's favorite strawberries. Have you had breakfast yet?"
Susan found a chair and sat down, nodding. "I have. Nancy, your wedding dress is stunning. It's by the international designer Vivian, right? I've always loved her designs. Unfortunately, my wedding was too rushed to get a custom dress from her."
Nancy looked down at her dress, the white lace adorned with tiny rhinestones, the layered skirt sparkling like starlight.
Edward had secretly contacted Vivian to design it, not telling her a thing. She was thrilled to find that the style and details perfectly matched her taste, as if it were made just for her.
She gently brushed her hand over the rhinestones, her face glowing with happiness, her eyes sparkling.
After her makeup and hair were done, Mary walked in. Seeing Nancy in her wedding dress and veil, she stopped in her tracks, tears welling up unexpectedly.
Susan quickly stood up and helped Mary to a seat. "Mom, today is Nancy's big day. You should be happy, not crying."
"Sorry, sorry," Mary said, taking a tissue to wipe her tears, her voice choked. "I just... I feel so guilty about losing Nancy back then. She suffered so much before we found her. Now she's getting married, and I haven't had enough time to cherish her. My heart aches."
Elsie also went over, holding Mary's hand, softly comforting her. "Mom, don't be sad. Nancy will always be a part of the Forbes family, even after she gets married. We have a home in Harmony City too. You can visit her anytime."
Nancy knelt beside Mary, looking up at her. "Mom, Elsie is right. You have to visit often. If Edward and I ever fight or I'm unhappy, you and Dad must come and take me home, okay?"
Mary quickly covered Nancy's mouth, scolding gently. "Don't say such things on your wedding day! Nancy, you and Edward will be happy forever. As long as you're happy, I don't mind seeing you less often..."
Before she could finish, tears started falling again.
Just then, Frank walked in, seeing Mary crying. He quickly went over and patted her shoulder. "Today is Nancy's happy day. Don't cry. Our daughter finding her happiness is a good thing. We should be happy."
Mary sniffed and nodded vigorously. "Okay, okay, I won't cry. I'll be happy today."
She wiped her tears and forced a smile.
As the time for the wedding drew near, Nancy grew more nervous. She sat on the bed, her palms sweaty, glancing out the window.
The sky was already lightening. According to the plan, Edward and the groomsmen should arrive at the hotel, the wedding venue, by seven in the morning to oversee the final arrangements and take pre-wedding photos with the photographer.
But now, with only ten minutes left before departure, no one in the groomsmen group could reach him. They called Nancy, asking if she knew where Edward was.
