48 - Lilly's Story
~Godfrey’s Point of View~

I looked around at all the shifters, completely exhausted by the day of fighting, but I knew they could go longer on anger alone. I stared up at the witch Katya being held by Felix, and I wanted nothing more than to squash her like a bug.
“We have to take her out, if anyone should be able to get her, harness her power for their own...” Dina said, dashing to my side.
“I agree, Felix … squash her,” I commanded, ordering her death as if she were a bug.
Felix and I had a long history and we’d been around each other on and off for centuries but he still sometimes managed to surprise me.
The demon let out a … a laugh? I was positively astounded and almost it had me scared. It was a low rumble from deep in his belly and before the witch could register what I’d said and figure out a way out, he fiercely made a fist.
I floated up to his hand, just to see blood and other bodily fluids gushing out from between his fingers. Good one down!! But … we need more.
“Burn her,” yelled Quinn, our council demon.
Felix quickly dropped her to the earth and blew her a kiss, lighting her right up. The shifters all eagerly jumped back and frantically moved away.
“Sorry about that Kai, couldn’t be helped,” I said, with a slight giggle.
Seeing Felix work still gave me chills even after all this time.
I looked up to see a pack of white wolves and ones that looked like Ellie approaching. That son of a bitch had her family here her entire life! As if I thought he couldn’t be any more of a piece of shit.
Just then, Skyler shifted back to his human form and approached one of the larger wolves. His brothers quickly did the same and within seconds, they were on one knee in front of the creature.
I immediately understood this must be Ellie’s father. No time for family reunions! More killing to be had! I needed to find the traitorous bastard who betrayed his oath, his fellow Warriors and his family.
“Move about, everyone! Find the she-wolves and pups, talk to everyone. I want Kai and Gunner,” I bellowed.
I saw the large wolf shift back into a shorter man, and I would have never guessed by his wolf’s stature that he was that short. Another wolf next to him quickly shifted back and I realized quickly he must be related as well. Maybe a brother? Interesting.
Within an hour we’d found the she-wolves and pups, many of whom had now lost their mate or father due to the battle. I wasn’t sure how we would deal with that, or if any would give us a problem, but that would be Isaac’s matter to resolve.
I was approached by River, and he had a small woman with him who looked strikingly like Ellie’s twin.
“Sir, please, River tells me that Gunner has my daughter, Lilly. She’s with my mother, he has both of them but I don’t know where, what can I do,” she sobbed.
The other two mutts quickly joined us.
“Gunner wouldn’t even let her keep her damn name, he changed it, she’s not Ellie,” Skyler said.
“Your blood bond, can you find her,” Hunter asked.
“Gunner is likely with her, he probably wouldn’t let her out of his sight, but Kai … he’s probably long gone,” River said.
At that thought, my fangs were out and the she-wolf jumped back. I gathered myself and tried to think clearly. No emotions Godfrey, get it together.
“Do you have any idea why Gunner wants your daughter so badly,” I asked the she-wolf.
She sighed and looked at the triplet mutts. I had no patience for story hour but here we were.
“He came to us when his fated mate died, wanting to look around our pack for someone new. We’d been having to give his pack some unmated she-wolves in exchange for security for awhile. But, our Alpha refused him, knowing his reputation and that she would likely have a horrible life. He took a girl he liked anyhow, she had just gotten her wolf the month before. But, she wasn’t even at Blood Claw for a day and she found her fated mate,” she said, with tears streaming down her face.
I didn’t care for the theatrics of it all but I knew if I told her to get to the point, the mutts would have a fit.
“Gunner was furious, but he came back telling us the she-wolf was now happy with her new mate and he needed someone else. We didn’t trust him, but it wasn’t like we had a choice. Lilly happened to be playing near where they were having their meeting … he took one look at her and…”
She trailed off and River spoke up.
“How old was she then,” he asked.
“It was the day before her eighth birthday. About two days later we started to hear rumors he’d killed the she-wolf and her new mate. The she-wolf was … my older sister Star. She … was my best friend and it killed me to think it, but we all believed it to be true. The next day Gunner came back, with his entire warrior clan. He demanded I give him Lilly to mate with his son since we couldn’t provide him an acceptable mate. My father stepped in and confronted him about Star. He confirmed he killed her, and my father reached for the knife on his hip and took a swipe at Gunner’s throat. Before anyone could even register what happened, his Beta was holding my father’s head by the hair, and laughing,” she sobbed.
“An act of war,” I said.
I knew fully well that her father had been Beta before Rock had been. Sometimes I listened when Isaac rambled on. There would be some investigation on this matter at another time, Isaac really fucked this up.
“Yes, and we had so few warriors, so few resources, most surrendered. Gunner came forward with a witch and she put a spell on us all. It changed our looks and kept us from knowing each other, fully remembering our past. We were like … mindless creatures that just moved and did as he directed. I was assigned to be a maid in his mansion, and I was with my Lilly everyday, not fully understanding who she was, and she had no clue who I was,” she finished.
“What a sick fuck,” Skyler said.
I nodded, but story time was over. We were wasting time.
“I’ll see if I can get anywhere with our blood bond,” I said, dashing away to find a quiet place to think.
