Conversation between protectors

Narrated by Liam Parker

I watch the girls go up the stairs and I am left alone. Mr. Reuben looked at me seriously and for the first time this made me uncomfortable. I did not make my nervousness apparent, but unlike other situations I was not indifferent. He was Helena's father and I wanted him to like me.

"Helena told me what you did". He said, breaking the silence and leaving me confused.

"What did I do?"

"That you dealt with her ex's mother's son, but she couldn't tell me what happened". He speaks and I nod. "What did you do?"

I bow my head, since it was not my intention to confess to a crime in my first serious conversation with him.

"Speak!" He speaks a little louder.

"I took him to a place far away with no witnesses, so I beat him". I confess, looking at him seriously.

He remains unresponsive, not at all surprised to see me confess to a crime. He quickly nods and looks off into some corner, so I understand that he was angry. Who, like his daughter, is somewhat vindictive.

"Why didn't you bring her to us, as soon as these things happened?" He asks, crossing his arms.

I take a deep breath, wishing this conversation didn't end up making him hate me even more.

"I know it was the right thing to do, but it wasn't my decision". I clarify. "Helena chose not to bring that subject up again and I think she didn't want you to suffer. So I accepted her choice and just focused on helping her". I finish.

He looks at me seriously, watching me without looking away.

"Thank you". He speaks after a while, surprising me. "I don't understand why she kept it from us, but I'm grateful that you took care of her and taught that son of a bitch a lesson".

He didn't look at me, but I could see that his words were sincere.

"Helena said that he stole from you and that she intends to put him behind bars". He comments and again I am surprised.

Had she told this to her parents? What else would she have told them?

"Yes, I am collecting evidence, so I can keep him in the chair for a long time". I explain, and he looks at me intently.

"How long is this going to take?" He asks.

"Actually, I'm waiting for his next steps. I need to find out which bank he uses, then only then would I have enough convincing evidence".

"So this could take weeks or years?" He asks, sounding unsatisfied.

"I fired him from my company and made sure that no company in this country will hire him. He is cornered, so it is a matter of a few weeks". I explain further, causing him to breathe a sigh of relief. "Don't worry, I told him to pay for what he did to Helena". I assure you.

He looks at me for a moment, as if pondering whether or not to trust me. Soon he nods, putting me at ease. After all, this was a breakthrough.

"About you and my daughter together". He starts, making me wary. "She's a great girl and deserves to be happy. If you can't make her happy, leave her alone". "If you can't make her happy, leave her alone," He says with a serious look on his face and leans toward me, again glaring at me. "If I just dream that you are making my daughter cry, I will end you. Do you understand?"

"Yes, sir". Answering, understanding his reaction. "I want to make it clear that my intentions towards your daughter are the best and I would never make her cry".

He just nods, and then the girls go down the stairs with a smile, freeing me from getting analytical looks from my father-in-law.

"We're ready, shall we go?" Helen asks, smiling.

Reuben gets up and goes toward his wife, while Helen comes toward me. I look down at her, seeing that she looked beautiful.

"Are you all right?" She whispers, looking worried.

"Yes". Responding with a smile.

"I got ready as fast as I could, I was afraid to get to the living room and my dad made you a basketball". I smiled and Liam laughed along with me.

We were in the car, heading towards the park. My parents and my sister were in another car.

"He's tough, now I know who you pulled". He says with a mischievous smile.

"I have exquisite genetics". I say, showing off, making him laugh.

I put on some music and spent the rest of the time singing, as we drove across town. It was really far away and I had never been to this side of town. The green area is bigger and even the air is cleaner.

The houses were a little far away from each other and some of them had crops in the backyard. This part of the city was beautiful, making me wonder why I had never been here before.

"It's beautiful". I say as soon as Liam parks in front of the park.

He looks at me with a smile and nods. He walks over to me and puts a hat on my head, carefully placing it on my head, making me laugh.

"Is your family here yet?" I ask as he opens the trunk and I see that it was full.

"Some of them arrived early for a picnic". He answers and I sign.

I help him remove the various toys that were there and soon my family comes over to help. We entered the park, seeing that it was even more beautiful inside. There was grass everywhere and it was huge. There were some gazebos, skating rinks, and even courts.

"This place is beautiful". My mother says with a smile.

She seemed lighter today and somewhat happier. She had put on a dress that made her look more youthful, leaving my father with a silly smile. I look at them with a smile and from afar, they were my reference for love. Even though they were always giving each other a hard time, their love remained the same.

In fact, their love seemed to grow even more each year. And now that they were getting older, they cared for each other with patience and care, as love should be.

"They are over there". Liam speaks pointing to his family, who were a little away from the movement.

"It's a big family". Kelly comments with a smile.

"5 sisters and 5 brothers-in-law and my parents". Liam speaks with a smile.

"The meetings should be lively". My father speaks.

"You have no idea". I comment, and Liam and I laugh, remembering our last adventures.
