Reasons
"She is disorganized and sends me a lot of text messages with questions or sends her reports by audio. I'm going to fire her". Liam says stressed.
I had woken up early to make our breakfast and was laughing while listening to Liam complain endlessly about his new secretary.
"It's already the second one you've hired". I speak and he sighs tiredly.
"I had forgotten how hard it was to find good employees". Speaks in a bad mood.
"Have you ever stopped to think that maybe they are not the problem?" I speak after I gather my courage and feel his gaze burning into my back. "You expect them to get everything right the first time".
"You got it right the first time". Speaks as if it were an obvious fact.
I smile, since I rarely hear a compliment coming out of his mouth.
"Bianca just graduated and this is her first job, give it one more chance". I say as I place the bread rolls I had just taken out of the oven on the table.
"I'm not going to give her privileged treatment". Speaks with a closed face.
"You didn't tell her that you don't like her reports to be done by text message and that you like to hear about her activities for the day. She can't just guess that. Explain to her how things work, after all, you have a talented girl". I speak as I put the last things on the table.
"A teenager who is always talking on the phone and planning how to spend money she hasn't even received yet". Speaks with a snort and I laugh.
The secretary's salary is very good, I would be surprised if a recent graduate wasn't on cloud nine when she got a good job.
"Exactly Liam, a teenager". I say, sitting down next to him. "A new person who is up to date with all the usefulness that the internet has to offer. A person who has all the business details fresh in her head and is ready to apply everything".
"Okay, you've convinced me". Speaks looking at me with a mischievous smile.
We both laugh together.
"You can give me her number and I can give you some tips". I speak and he nods, more excited.
"My God, where did you learn to cook like that?" He asks, eating the whole wheat pancakes I had made and the cheese bread.
"It runs in the family". I replied with a smile, happy that he complimented me.
"The best pancake I've ever had". Speaks, putting more on his plate. "Did your mother teach you?"
"Actually, my father did. My mom doesn't cook very well, but we don't tell her that". I speak and we both laugh.
"We need to visit them". Speaks sounding a little tense. "How do you think they will react?"
I get thoughtful and then grimace.
"I think they will go crazy and possibly try to have me committed to the nearest mental institution". I say jokingly and Liam's scared face makes me laugh. "Don't worry, they're too polite to say that in front of you". I try to comfort him.
"Do you have any plans?" He asks, looking anxious.
"Don't worry, I can visit them first and talk about it".
"No, the right thing is to tell them together". Speaks firmly, but still looks afraid. "Let's go tomorrow?" He asks, and I nod.
We eat in silence, commenting on one thing or another. His watch beeps, indicating the time to go to work. I get up and go to the kitchen, picking up the lunch box I had made for him.
"What is this?" He asks, looking confused at the patterned bag I had extended in his direction.
"Food". I state the obvious. "You always skip meals and that's not healthy. If you're going to be late for lunch, I'll eat something healthy during that time". I say, and he cracks a smile, picking up his lunch box.
"Thank you". He looks at me with a beautiful smile.
He comes up to me and places a kiss on my forehead and then leaves. I get out the window as soon as I see his car disappear and look around. I sigh and walk up the stairs.
I decide to tidy up my room, I start unpacking all my bags and suitcases. I organize everything in the large closet that was there. My room was the second largest in the house and Liam's was the largest.
The place was huge and I felt comfortable. It was a little strange this way of living behind a facade, but nothing or impossible. I actually felt safe, which I couldn't feel anymore.
I was afraid that Joy would break into the old house again and finish what he started. I can sleep peacefully because I know that Liam is by my side and that he won't let anything happen. I sigh and try to bury everything that has to do with Joy. I wish I could forget that I had ever met him.
Of course I still had a score to settle with him, but I didn't want to focus on that alone. I would be happy when he paid for everything he did, but I knew that wouldn't make things right. In fact, nothing could make up for all the time I asked for at his side.
He owed me, a lot. I would collect everything I could and then, when I saw him with nothing, I could breathe in peace. I finished the room quickly, as I was lost between one thought and another. I opened the last box, which was old.
I looked at my painting materials and cracked a smile. It had been years since I had painted, years since I had had any inspiration. But from one hour to another, I feel excited and full of inspiration. I put everything together and sit down in front of the biggest canvas I had.
I look at the paints and feel the millions of colors that I could use on that painting. I open my smile and start with the color blue, making fine and delicate strokes. I was very meticulous when it came to painting and was very detailed, that was my style.
I had discovered that I could draw at a young age and it was a great hobby during my life. Something that made me relax and helped me to get away from all the clutter around me. But little by little I let it go. It was so instantaneous that I thought I had lost the skill. But no, I lacked a reason to draw.
