Chapter 48 What Exactly Did Benjamin Do
Rachel's usually calm face showed a flicker of surprise in her bright, serene eyes when she heard his final words.
She really couldn't understand what Benjamin had done to make both Heather and Steven believe it was Gemstone Beauty Parlor that reported them.
"But with two stores on the same street and in the same industry, conflicts are inevitable."
Steven nodded. "We just have to try our best to avoid them."
Rachel's thoughts shifted. With the grand opening today, the beauty salon was sure to be busy.
"Since it's the opening day, I'll go over with some flowers to join the fun."
"No way!" Steven objected. "There will be a lot of people. What if you or the baby get hurt?"
"No worries," Rachel said, putting down her spoon and pouting. "Are you going to stop me from going anywhere my entire pregnancy? Because if that's the case, I won't be pregnant anymore!"
Steven quickly clarified, "That's not what I meant. It's just that, according to the internet, early pregnancy is the most critical."
In the end, faced with her unhappy expression, Steven chose to compromise. "Alright, fine. If you want to go, you can go, but you can't drive yourself. I'll take you."
"Don't you need to go to the office?"
"I'll go after I drop you off."
"Why not just have the driver take me? I still need to go to Stargaze Gallery in the afternoon. You can't keep coming back to pick me up. That's too much trouble."
Steven chuckled. "Okay, okay. You're right. I've already arranged for the flowers to be delivered this morning, so don't worry about that. Just make sure to stay safe, okay?"
"Got it."
Around ten o'clock, the driver dropped her off at Radiant Beauty Spa. Through the car window, she could see the bustling activity inside.
Since Gemstone Beauty Parlor was also having an event today, the area was particularly crowded, with luxury cars coming and going.
Heather was at the entrance, greeting the ladies, busy as a bee. After instructing the manager to personally escort a guest upstairs, she turned and saw Rachel.
Heather immediately walked over and took her arm. "Slow down, slow down. What are you doing here while pregnant? You should be resting at home."
Rachel was taken aback. "Mom, you know?"
"Steven called me half an hour ago and said you found out you were pregnant yesterday." Heather's face lit up with joy. "If I weren't so tied up today, I'd be flying over to you right now."
"Any symptoms?"
Rachel shook her head. "Not yet."
"Still, you can't be too careful. Morning sickness can hit out of nowhere."
Heather's gaze grew even more tender. Just then, someone called her name. She responded and patted Rachel's arm. "There are too many people downstairs. You can't risk getting jostled. Go rest in my office upstairs. I'll come find you when I'm done. The code is 166398."
"Okay."
Rachel felt a sudden wave of nervousness.
Once inside the elevator, she took a deep breath, her palms growing slightly sweaty. She clenched and unclenched her fists as she walked to Heather's office door, entered the code, and pushed it open.
Heather's office door had a fingerprint and code lock, known only to Heather herself. Even Juniper, the manager of Gemstone Beauty Parlor, couldn't easily access it.
So there were no cameras inside, eliminating any worry about being recorded.
Rachel shut the door behind her and walked straight to the desk. She took a small set of keys from an artistic white ornament. There were four small keys in total.
She knelt down and tried each one in the second drawer.
On the third attempt, the lock finally turned and opened.
