Chapter 89 Eighty-Nine

Chapter 89 Eighty-Nine
Omg! That voice sounded familiar. So it was he who did the dirty work? Wow!

“Really?” the wife giggled in excitement. “You have no idea how much I've missed you, Hun. No joke, Harry isn't the man for me. Since the first day I got married to him, I've realized I had made a terrible mistake. You know sometimes, I feel like stabbing him to death, then running away.”

Wow! So that is it? What if she also has a hand in his death? These people are so stupid.

Isn't she even ashamed of herself to have brought a man into the house? She could have just gone out to meet him somewhere else, but no, she chose to be stupid.

She doesn't even care if anyone comes over and sees them together. Sighs.

“See? I told you not to marry him, but you insisted. Now see what he has turned you into? You work tirelessly to take care of the house because his salary isn't enough.

You could have been swimming in dollars if you'd married me instead of that poor wretched guy. Seriously, I would have fired him a long time ago if not for you.”

Hmmmm. This is the most terrible betrayal I have ever witnessed in my life. And on his deathbed, he pleaded that his wife should be protected. Harry will be so disappointed if he were alive as he witnessed this. Well, enough of that, I don't want to hear more.

The moment I knocked on the door, they went quiet. Then they started whispering to each other.

I knocked again, and this time, it was so loud that they had no choice but to open the door.

Surprisingly, when she opened the door, there was no one else in the living room. Not even the guy she was talking to earlier on.

“Who are you?”

She asked, holding the door and blocking the way.

“Detective Lizzy Mason,”

I waved my ID card on her face, then returned it to my pocket.

She stepped out and closed the door behind her, looking so confused.

“A detective in my house? Is everything alright?”

By her appearance, she looked so innocent, but deep down in her heart is a viper. Well, since she doesn't know yet what is happening? I decided to twist it and suck out her intention towards Harry.

“Harry, your husband is in custody,”

“What!”

She exclaimed shockingly, placing her hand on her chest.

“Harry? What did he do?”

What can I say?

“He scammed someone out of a huge amount of money.”

She shook her head and clicked her tongue on her palate continuously.

“I knew there was something about Harry he was hiding from me. Gosh! What did I just get myself into? Seriously, I regret marrying that man. Now he has embarrassed me.” She sobbed bitterly.

“Well, you shouldn't be in pain. After all, it isn't him whom you love.”

She raised an eyebrow in confusion.

“What do you mean, Detective? How could you say that? Do you think I am cheating on my husband?”

Come on, woman. I know everything. Quit acting.

“When we get to the headquarters, you will understand.”

She stepped back, eyes broadening in confusion.

“Are you trying to arrest me for what I didn't do? It is Harry who scammed someone, not me. And he hasn't even given me a dime before, so there is no way you…”

“Shut up, woman!”

I thundered, and she went mute instantly.

Seriously, why am I even overreacting to this? It isn't like I care about Harry so much, maybe it is the betrayer thing that is getting into my head. I know how it feels to be betrayed by the person you think is in love with you.

If Harry were alive today, nothing would have stopped him from having a heart attack.

“Officers, escort her to the headquarters.”

The officers marched forward, held her by her hands and they took her away. However, she kept on hurling curses at me as she was being forced inside the car.

As soon as they left with her, I went inside the house to pull Zach out from anywhere she must have hidden him.

Unfortunately, I didn't see him anywhere inside the house. Not even in the kitchen, the inner rooms, or the bathrooms.

He must have escaped using a secret place only he and the lady know. However, I didn't give up. Since there wasn't any secret door in the house leading to the backyard, or any other rooms, I decided to search everywhere thoroughly, maybe Zach was still inside the house.

After going around for more than 10 minutes, I heard a subtle movement from one of the rooms. So I headed towards the room and caught Zach trying to climb out through the window.

“Oh, Zach.” I folded my arms, shaking my head disappointedly.

He froze on the spot, beads of sweat rolling down his head. He looked like those thieves who became so pitiful after being caught stealing.

“Aren't you so ashamed of yourself, Zach? You hate your employee, but are after his wife. What on earth do you think this is, uhn? Will you be happy if someone is visiting your wife at your house?”

He scoffed, wiping off the sweat on his face.

“Harry is already dead, Detective Lizzy, and it isn't like he would come back alive. So, I think you should mind your business as this isn't your concern!”

Wow! Zach has so much pride, but no problem, he has a lot of explaining to do.

Back at the headquarters, I had Zach locked inside the prison, then proceeded to the interrogation room to question Harry’s wife.

The moment I entered the room, she sprang up from the chair.

“Lady, what nonsense is this? Do you know you are toiling with my reputation? I am a nurse, for God’s sake. Get me out of here and apologize to me, now!”

She yelled, her voice piercing the wall.

“Your husband wasn't arrested because he scammed someone, your husband is dead.”
