Chapter 194: Sour mood

Chapter 194: Sour mood
The heavy sensation of the earlier encounter still weighed on Quinn’s limbs as she finally forced herself to leave the confines of her room. The aftertaste of that heated kiss was like a drug she couldn't flush out of her system. Her mood was a strange cocktail of physical satisfaction and growing mental agitation. She needed to see him. She needed to look into Jose’s eyes and see if he felt the same soul-crushing pull that she did.

She walked down the long, marble-floored hallway of the Australian estate. The modern architecture, with its glass walls and sharp angles, made her feel exposed. Every shadow seemed to mock her. She was a woman who had always prided herself on her strong will, but now she was wandering the halls like a ghost, hunting for a glimpse of her captor.

As she reached the balcony overlooking the grand foyer, she saw him.

Jose was standing near the massive front entrance. He was dressed in a dark, perfectly tailored suit that emphasized his god-like build. He was speaking quietly into a phone, his expression cold and focused. From this distance, he looked more like a statue than a man, beautiful, powerful, and utterly unreachable.

Quinn’s heart did a slow, painful roll in her chest. Her brain lock threatened to return just from the sight of him. She stayed perfectly still, her breath hitching, waiting for him to look up. She expected him to sense her presence, to turn his head and give her that dark, possessive smirk that told her he knew exactly what he had done to her in that room.

But the look never came.

Jose ended the call, tucked the phone into his pocket, and began to walk toward the exit. He moved with a brisk, efficient stride, his eyes fixed straight ahead. He passed directly below the balcony where she stood. Quinn felt the heat of her own anticipation rising, her body leaning instinctively toward him.

He didn't even glance up.

It wasn't that he didn't see her; it was as if she didn't exist in his world at all. He stepped through the heavy glass doors and disappeared into the distance, heading toward a waiting black SUV. The door closed with a soft, expensive thud, and the engine purred to life before the vehicle swept down the long, winding driveway.

Quinn stood there, her hands gripping the cold metal railing of the balcony. The silence that followed his departure was deafening. A wave of sourness washed over her, curdling the remnants of the pleasure she had felt earlier.

The rejection felt sharper than any physical blow. Just hours ago, she had been melting in his arms, feeling as though the world had narrowed down to just the two of them. Now, she was just an afterthought or worse, a non-thought. The longing she had been fighting transformed into a bitter, burning frustration.

"How can he just leave?" she whispered, her voice cracking in the empty space.

She felt like a fool. She had been reminiscing about a make-out session that clearly meant everything to her and nothing to him. The realization made her mood turn dark and jagged. She wasn't used to being ignored, especially not by a man who had claimed her so thoroughly.

She turned away from the balcony, her heels clicking sharply against the marble as she retreated. The estate, which had briefly felt like a place of intense passion, now just felt like a cold, empty box. She didn't know if this was another one of his games or if he truly was that cold-blooded.

What she couldn't shake, however, was the feeling that she was being watched. Even as Jose's car vanished from sight, the sensation of eyes on her back remained. She didn't know that while one twin was driving away, the other was still very much present, observing her every move from the shadows.
