Chapter 41: An Unexpected Turn of Events!

Chapter 41: An Unexpected Turn of Events!
Sophia didn't go to bed after returning; instead, she planned to wait for William to come back as she had some things she wanted to discuss with him. However, she ended up watching TV all night seated in the chair, but William never returned.
"Did he go home with Logan?" Sophia wondered as she stood up, stretched, tidied away the two beer bottles at her feet, went to the bathroom to wash her face, and then, yawning repeatedly, lay down on the sofa to catch up on some sleep. She wasn't worried about William's safety; after all, no one wanted him to be safe and sound more than Logan.
Knock, knock—
However, she hadn't slept for long when she heard a knock on the door. Sophia pulled the blanket over her head, ignoring it. If it were William, he would use his key to enter and would be careful not to wake her up. Since the person outside wasn't William, she decided not to bother.
But the person outside was persistent, knocking for a while, waiting, and then knocking again. Sophia was about to lose her patience! Just as she was about to get up and answer the door, she heard Tristan's voice from outside, "Mr. Troy, stop knocking. The young master is not at home."
Sophia paused. Tristan? Why was he here so early in the morning? And who was the "Mr. Troy" he mentioned?
"Steward Tristan, what a coincidence, you're here too," a man's voice, gentle and clear, spoke, sounding familiar to Sophia.
Then, Sophia heard Tristan bluntly say, "No coincidence, I knew you were coming to see the young master, so I came especially. Mr. Troy, I'll be straight with you. I don't know what you want with the young master, but I hope you can leave him alone."
"Are you afraid I might hurt him?"
Tristan sighed, "The Emily incident is already in the past."
Hearing this, Sophia finally remembered that the person knocking was Henry!
Henry had indeed mentioned that he had used William before, and William had stayed with him for a while. Could it be that William didn't reach an agreement with Logan because of Henry's involvement? Otherwise, why wouldn't William have gone back and instead stayed with Henry?
And if there was no agreement with Logan, would it affect Sean's ability to clear his suspicions?
"Steward Tristan, you misunderstand me. Anyway, since William is not here, I'll leave for now," Henry didn't insist and left as he said.
Sophia waited until the footsteps faded before opening the door, and she saw only Tristan standing outside.
"Miss Sophia, did we wake you up?" Tristan greeted her with a smile.
Sophia was about to speak when a gust of cold wind made her shiver. She motioned for Tristan to come in and ran to grab the coat draped over the sofa.
Tristan considerately closed the door and walked over to Sophia, saying, "I think you heard what we were discussing earlier. Henry found out somehow that William lives here and came to look for him."
"Do you know what he wants with William?" Sophia asked him.
Tristan shook his head, "I'm not sure, all I know is that the master has been targeting him. I'm afraid he might direct his hatred towards William."
"Don't worry about that. His only enemy has always been Logan, but that doesn't mean he won't use William," Sophia said, believing Henry's own words.
Tristan murmured, "Use, you say? It's quite possible."
"Speaking of which, William didn't come home last night. Did he go back to Logan's place?" Compared to Henry, Sophia is more eager to know where William is now.
Tristan shook his head, "I don't know. Neither the master nor the young master came back last night. Perhaps they went somewhere?"
Neither of them returned? Sophia frowned, hoping nothing had gone wrong. She had made a deal with Logan, and he couldn't go back on his word.
Sophia walked to the balcony and watched as Henry got into his car and left. Recalling the conversation she had with Henry, in his memory, they hadn't seen each other since the Emily incident.
So, in fact, Sophia had seen him again, but he didn't know it.
Watching Henry drive away, Sophia couldn't help but worry. Leaning against the balcony, her arms wrapped around herself, her expression quite serious.
Sophia suddenly regretted not asking Henry clearly back then, how exactly did he use William? Did Sean get out of jail smoothly? There shouldn't be any issues in between, right?
But thinking about a world decades later where Sean didn't exist, Sophia became very worried that Sean might end up spending his life in prison.
If that were the case, she would do whatever it took to prevent it!
For now, she needed to find William first and tell him this important information.
Sophia had many things on her mind, ready to take action, when the next second, she heard a "click," the sound of a camera shutter!
Damn!
"Wait! Not now—"
Sophia wanted to stop it, but it was too late. The blinding white light seemed to swallow her, forcing her to close her eyes. Then she heard Samuel's voice asking, "Sophia, are you okay? Why did you suddenly close your eyes?"
Sophia suddenly opened her eyes, and she was back in that alley in Washington, in the middle of the day, in the summer. Damn it, she was back!
"Sophia, we're almost there!" Samuel walked ahead, eagerly running to show her the way. Sophia remembered that last time she had dawdled, causing Samuel, who had turned the corner first, to be ambushed and knocked unconscious.
There's no reason to make the same mistake twice, is there?
This time, Sophia was quick-eyed and fast-handed, grabbing Samuel's collar and pulling him back.
Samuel, caught off guard, stumbled several steps before regaining his balance. He turned to Sophia, puzzled, and asked, "Sophia, what's going on?"
"Wait a minute, I'm getting a gun." Sophia said, pulling out a gun. Samuel was stunned; how did she bring a gun with her?
Wait! That's not the point. Why did she have a gun?
Holding the gun made Sophia feel a bit safer. She asked Samuel to keep an eye on their surroundings while she made a phone call.
"Sophia, who are you calling?"
Samuel was still in the dark, completely unsure of what had suddenly come over Sophia.
Sophia replied, "The Washington City Public Security Bureau."
"Ah? Why are you calling the Public Security Bureau?"
Sophia glanced at him and said, "To have them monitor me."
Samuel was completely bewildered.
Sophia contacted the city's public security, reported her police rank and badge number, and provided all the information that could be found in the public security system.
After her identity was confirmed, Sophia asked the public security to monitor her location, preferably with her visible on the surveillance.
When asked why she wanted to do this, Sophia took a deep breath and said, "We are being targeted by an illegal organization armed with firearms. The criminals are nearby, and we are seeking assistance."
"Okay, I understand. We will monitor you immediately."
After hanging up the phone, Sophia looked up and met Samuel's gaze, which was like looking at a lunatic. He even tried to touch her forehead, but Sophia slapped his hand away. "What are you doing?"
"Sophia, are you okay? Why are you suddenly not thinking straight?" Samuel was serious; he didn't mean to insult her by saying her brain wasn't working right.
Sophia didn't have time to deal with this. She stared at the entrance of the alley; regardless of whether the attacker was still there or not, she couldn't take risks lightly.
If the other party had accomplices, and she fell for it again, there would be no chance of a "redo."
Therefore, Sophia chose to retreat.
"Let's go." Sophia put the gun away and left the place with Samuel.
She had already contacted the public security to monitor her, which included all the streets and alleys around her. If there were any suspicious individuals, the local police would act immediately to ensure her safety.
Thus, Sophia wasn't worried. Although she wanted to make the arrest herself, it wasn't her time to step in.
Because, she hadn't figured out yet, who wanted to harm her?
Who was the mastermind hiding in the shadows?
